If the Drinker appears on YouTube bemoaning certain tropes or poorly written characters AND THEN immediately turns around and publishes a weak sauce novella with the exact same problem, doesn't that somewhat weaken his argument?

The reason we don't consider's Siskel's cinematic output is because there is not any. However, in the case where there is, should we be forced to ignore it?

Someone that smokes cigarettes can tell me how dangerous they are and that I should avoid them but they would be more credible if they followed their own advice.

That's what scares me about writing. Everything is crap now, and now is the prefect time to break out. Then we i go to write something, it's Absolute garbage. So do you bite the bullet and push out more slop for the slop gods, or do you spend another decade working on something good?

I guess it depends what your objective is. Sometimes the best art is the art we create for ourselves.

I want to make money, at least some of it, but i am also enough of a realist to know that i won't be able to quit my dayjob. I also want to leave behind something nice. I had fun things to read and watch when i was little, but now looking at the slop coming out, it makes me sad. The human in me wants to leave behind a good story, but the greedy money hungry bastard in me does not want to do it for free. Is this pride holding me back or human decency? i can't tell anymore and that scares me.

Also Critical Drinker: cover the new Jurassic World installment anyway because that is how your channel gets content.

Anyone else think Drinker is fine on stream but can't stand his videos? I heard him on his streams and other places and he does a better job of being a critic there IMO, but his regular videos are just the cookie cutter anti-woke slop. Not that I like woke shit, but I can only hear about how "The Message" or a token tranny getting some role so many times.

I just use him as a barometer for the slop Hollywood is unleashing. I rarely take his opinions seriously. I remember in one video he got to interview Russel Crowe where (I can't timestamp) Drinker brings up Master and Commander: The Far Side of the World and Crowe mentions that part of what made the movie good was that it didn't focus on "toxic masculinity."

A well-worn topic of interest in Drinker's videos. So what does he do? He agrees with Crowe and completely pussies out. Now, I get it because you don't want to fuck up contacts and future interview prospects but a way to save face would be to say "Oh, okay, yeah." And move on instead of being a good cuck and agreeing with your hero.

Okay, see, this is what the first episode should have been, talking about someone who he hasn't gone on and on about for forever... but also for some reason, Drinker glosses over a lot of the details of what Whedon actually did, keeping everything vague like he's trying to avoid getting sued by the guy. He skips the fact that Firefly had such a passionate fan base that it got a movie and Whedon's next project, Dollhouse, was given a second season simply on the strength of the uproar over Firefly getting cancelled.

Next time, hopefully he does more research.

I went to go see the new Superman last weekend. It's been a long time since I've been to an actual theater, my local IMAX is pretty good and I wanted to know what all the fuss was about. I also let it set in a few days before I watched any critics stuff on it. I went in not expecting much, but honestly, it was better than I expected. I actually kind of liked it.

Of course, Drinker is going to piss on it.

I honestly think Nerdrotic did a much better review, but his does have plot points and spoilers

I honestly liked a lot of the direction these two shit on. There's some stupid cringe humor, but it's no where near as bad as Whedon's dialogue. It felt like small moments of Mystery Men or The Tick; making fun of a universe that's normalized superheros and monsters constantly attacking. I also liked the secret message from his parents. In a way, it makes the movie a little based. Superman's real parents were like the leaders of Islamic caliphates, but him being adopted and assimilated meant he didn't follow in their path. His expositional monologue has him saying he's "human" instead of "American," which I think would have been better, but we're not going to get everything in today's world, with a movie that has to do well in EU/Asian/Pacific markets.

This time it's Ghostbusters 2016 and he manages to discuss it's origins, evolution and strategy towards the established fanbase without addressing Amy Pascal and the N Korean Sony hack revalations. If interested in the detail I'd suggest the Midnight's Edge coverage which you may have issues with but is at least properly researched and sourced.
