That’s just it. A person who wanted to know what he believes in would be intellectually curious enough to delve into those details. They are not minor ones. But Jack repeatedly claims authoritative knowledge of his religion’s Scripture when in fact he could not be more ignorant.

As always, he’s a very useful cautionary tale.
His sect pretty much discourages that entirely. He would be questioned as to why he isn’t accepting the word of god as it is written in his e-z reader picture bible

I’m a big fan of how both the Roman Catholic Church and most of Judaism take a scholarly approach to all of this. It’s extremely revealing how Jack’s sect rejects and vilifies the former, and plays dumb about the latter’s deep scholarly works going back 1000 years. Jack probably thinks that Maimonides was Moses’s brother.

I looked up the original Hebrew and it uses the word קהילה which means “community”
or “congregation” (as a group of people, so “assembly” is the more accurate translation as “church” wasn’t a thing and people might mistakenly think it refers to a building). It also uses the Hebrew שאול, Sheol, which never meant a place of eternal suffering, so the translation to “hell” is sort of puzzling.

Oh I forgot, Jack says none of this is up for discussion or consideration. And seriously, his loss. Close reading of primary sources is
not just fascinating and fun, but helps a person to understand the full meaning of the words (and thus what one believes or does not). I suspect Jack knows he’s not cut out for something that requires critical thinking or exploration. In which case, fine, only Jews are commanded to question every single word of Scripture and wrestle with the meanings. But stop telling the world you have read the Bible X times when you have clearly not studied it even once.
Considering that the bible was translated from the original Hebrew to Greek to Latin and then to everything else means that words were changed and how a young woman of marrying age became a literal virgin.

And yet you still have faggots like Fatty insisting that the KJV bible is the most accurate and close to the original scriptures when it was made in the 17th century.

I was always curious about this, especially since the Bible nowadays is translations of translations (of translations of translations and so on and so forth, translation issues and errors and all). Any good websites to delve deeper into any of this, as I want to sate my curiosity in regards to this topic. Anyone who says that KJV bible is the most accurate deserves to be laughed out of the room until they realize that it was released in 1611. Then again, we all know Jack would fucking immolate the moment he stepped into a non-Protestant church due to breaking multiple of the seven (eight if you are Orthodox) deadly sins. Jack should do what his ancestors did and read the Quran instead.

Jack, that slogan had been changed years before Gunn had signed onto Superman. Also if someone believes America has lost its values, why'd they put "the american way" into a superhero's slogan, like what would America be? Blind patriotism

Reminder this idiot thinks that the government faked the moonlanding yet can somehow make these weather machines that can screw over the weather

Hates the American Way is taken out of something while actively believing every evil conspiracy about the U.S. Government. Also, doesn't believe in Climate change but thinks the Government has Destro and the Weather Dominator.

Jack probably thinks that Maimonides was Moses’s brother.
Jack thinks it’s pronounced “MAY-mon-eyeds.”

One of my best friends is from a Christian family. His father grew up Catholic and is now non-denominational “born again.” Does daily “Bible study” which I thought meant delving into the meaning of the texts and what they reveal about the micro and the macro. But one day he showed me his study books, which were Max Lucado essays that didn’t examine anything. I was taken aback but of course didn’t say anything. It sort of explained why he was so hostile about discussing the Pentateuch, which makes no sense to me since you’d think you’d be interested in the foundational text of your religion. It sounds dorky but Torah study has been an adventure of a lifetime for me and I am saddened that at best I’ll only ever be able to skim a fraction of the surface. I can’t relate to being opposed to learning about the most meaningful aspect of life while also larping as a scholar of it all.

Any good websites
I’ve been pretty shocked by the lack of basic Hebrew and Aramaic knowledge I’ve seen on Christian websites. If you are at all inclined, I would highly recommend learning Biblical Hebrew. It’s not as hard as it sounds and learning all of the major roots will stand you in good stead for deciphering deeper and more nuanced meanings of words. I’ve seen adults embark on this later in life and attain a decent grasp of it all within a few years.

What I would not recommend is buying into religious commentary from anyone who does not have (at the least) a solid grounding in Biblical Hebrew. Just like I wouldn’t take financial advice from someone who can’t calculate interest but has heard about it.

Ari Lamm has an excellent podcast and Xitter series called “Why Read the Bible in Hebrew?” that is geared for non-Hebrew readers as well. Even if you don’t embark on a Biblical Hebrew course, the close readings of the Hebrew he provides are so illuminating and engaging. I fully endorse this attitude and approach:

That's my favorite part of these dumbass conspiracy theorists, they think climate change is some hoax while at the same time believe that the elites have super advanced technology that manipulates the weather to cause random floods for no reason.

As for the other thing, Jack's brain is in a state of cognitive dissonance, because on one hand he thinks that following laws means obeying god, yet if getting vaccinated was the law, he'd outright refuse to follow it. He also believes in the worst things about the USA yet is surprised when people would want to drop "pro-american" patriotism phrases even as people's patriotism is plummeting due to the actions of the US government.

It's an interesting topic especially because the Bible is such a massively translated work worldwide. I don't think there are any others that come close in terms of number/variety.

Plus there's the variations in how it is translated, some go for a more literal word-for-word approach while others prefer to convey more of the intended meaning. Both can lead to some very good and very bad outcomes depending on the skill and intent of the translator and it helps to have multiple translations to compare.

Generally though, newer is better but not necessarily. The Dead Sea Scrolls weren't discovered until the 1950s, for example, but Jerome when creating the Vulgate had access to now-lost manuscripts, interaction with the early Church Fathers, and was closer in time and culture to the events described in the New Testament. He was a polyglot who spoke Latin, Greek, Hebrew, Aramaic and Illyrian.

dumbass conspiracy theorists
The thing is that many conspiracy theories have been proven to be true. There was a conspiracy to protect Hunter Biden and shut down media coverage of his laptop. There was a conspiracy to take Trump out with lawfare. There was a conspiracy to conceal the fact that the POTUS was a fucking vegetable. And many such other examples. But lazy dumbasses like Jack have no desire to think critically about things on a case by case basis, and more importantly do not know how. So they lend all conspiracies credence.

No yeah there are many conspiracy theories that are true, hell I believe a few myself.

But Jack falls into the camp of dumbass conspiracy theorists who believe in idiotic things like the flat earth, fake moon landing, JFK Jr being alive, weather machines, and Jack's church chili contest being rigged against him specifically.

Pinocchio and Don Quixote are up there, but both combined pale in comparison to the Bible in terms of number of languages it has been translated into.

If you want to get really autistic about it you can look up an Interlinear Bible which has the original Hebrew / Greek right alongside a word-for-word translation to English.

The issue if you want New Testament is that the quality of the Christian translations is often extremely poor. I see words mistranslated to such a shocking degree that it’s hard not to think the aim was to deceive. That’s why I recommend studying the most frequently used Biblical Hebrew shorashim (roots) and words. There are tons of great apps and other tools for this online, and even word lists like this one.

The New Testament was not originally written in Hebrew, it was written in Koine Greek

I’m sorry I wasn’t clear. When I see translations that include both the Pentateuch and New Testament, the translations of the Pentateuch are often wildly off the mark. That makes the entire source dubious from my perspective. YMMV.

I see. Well the Interlinear Bible like I mentioned has the original Hebrew for the Old Testament and Greek for the New. IE it's completely untranslated except for a word-for-word translation to English. Pic related

He would have spoken mostly Aramaic and Hebrew. He probably had some Greek knowledge but not much. It’s unlikely he knew much Latin, as the Roman occupiers spoke Greek in Israel and the Jewish population knew next to no Latin.

Jack Scalfani probably believes JC spoke English.
Jesus would have known some vulgar Latin as it was the language to learn if you dealt with the Romans. Not much mind you but enough to know a few words and phrases. But yeah his language would have been ancient Hebrew and Aramaic.

And of course some people think that English was around back then. I mean when you tell some of these people that Jesus was Jewish, and a rabbi, they get angry and say, "no! He was a Christian!" showing they don't even understand the basics of their own religion. "Christian" became a term for those that followed Chris as that's literally what it means. A "follower of Christ". Jesus couldn't follow himself so he couldn't be Christian. Q.E.D.

Jack should do what his ancestors did and read the Quran instead.
Of even better still, tell him that the God of the Muslims is the same God he himself worships. Judaism, Christianity and Islam are three religions that grew from the same source. If you've actually read the Quran it starts exactly like the OT does. And the OT? The first five books are literally the same as the first five books of the Hebrew bible or Tanakh.

But often times these conspiracies go off the rails and go beyond what actually happened. It's why I always say the best lies have a kernel of truth in them. But it doesn't mean that everything in them is real.

Was Biden incompetent? Yes, some of the time as he was an old man and had "old man brain" bit not all the time. And so was Reagan and in his later years it was George Bush the Elder and Nancy that were running the show as they tried to hide his Alzheimer's from everybody. Biden being senile however is not the same as him being a robot / clone / AI / reptilian shapeshifter and so on that Fatty keeps going on about. And honestly if any of that were true I would have thought they'd have used a better model.

It's funny because I always thought walnut halves had a very "brain" like appearance.

But yes. That is a real size picture of Fatty's shriveled brain.

I love that Jack is confirming that he believes there is no need for study or discussion of the Bible. He is just so fucking dumb and undeservedly arrogant.
Jack's Sunday school homework growing up:

He was never particularly studious.

Thank goodness Jack was born into the one, true religion: The Jehova's Witnesses.
If he were his entire neighborhood would join the Jehova's Witness protection program.

But that is translation. I’m sure, for example, it erroneously translates almah to virgin. Unfortunately, starting with Genesis 3:15 I could list literally hundreds of inaccurate translations like this that are presented as reliable but make the entire interpretation exegetically untenable.

For example, commenting on the use of the word zer’a ("seed"') in Genesis 13:15 and 17:8, Paul says: "Now the promises were spoken to Abraham and to his seed. It does not say, 'And to seeds, referring to many; but, referring to one, 'And to your seed,' who is Christ" (Galatians 3:16). Paul's claim that a single individual is meant by the term "seed" in Genesis 13:15 and 17:8 is either deliberately deceptive or a sign of a shocking lack of knowledge. Nowhere in the Pentateuch do we find the plural of "seed" used with reference to human descendants. In all instances, the singular term "seed" is used in a plural sense (e.g., Genesis 13:16, 17:10, 22:17-18 ). This is clearly stated in Genesis 17:8: "... and I will be their God," where the third-person plural pronoun, "their," refers to "your seed."

This is why I so strongly suggest those interested in understanding the primary sources start learning Biblical Hebrew. Once you have knowledge and can compare the various sets of translations, you can determine what sources you find trustworthy for Hebrew, Greek, and Latin (as the case may be). If the Hebrew is wrong it would not inspire confidence in the Greek or Latin.

TaNaKh consists of the Pentateuch, Nevi’im (Prophets) and Ketuvim (Writings).
