Part of it depends on whether you count the Apocrypha/Deuteroncanonical books as being canon or not. Some sects still include them as being part of the OT. And prior to the Council of Nicea the number of books in the OT varied from church to church.

The canonization of the Tanakh came before the canonization of the OT.

But regardless of that the OT and the Tanakh are not exactly the same.

So the reason I keep using the term Pentateuch is that Torah is used as a much more broad descriptor that encompasses the Written Torah, the Mishna, Gemara, Midrashim, and commentaries throughout history. The book we read the weekly Torah portion from (in Hebrew and English) is called a Chumash and the extensive footnotes are extremely illuminating (and often challenging!). Maybe that’s why I was so gobsmacked by Jack insisting there is no room for discussion of Scripture. It’s just antithetical to my lifetime of experience of learning in general, and the daily and weekly experience of learning the week’s parsha. Below is a page from the Or HaChaim’s lengthy commentary on Vayikra (Leviticus) 16:1-18:30. All those footnotes and debates for millennia were unnecessary or hazardous, depending on how you read Jack’s dismissal of Scripture discussion. It just boggles the mind. I genuinely can’t imagine living like that.

At the risk of seeming autistic but in the interest of eliminating ambiguity in case people take the term the book too literally: TaNaKh contains the Pentateuch, Nevi’im and Ketuvim. Torah is not just the Pentateuch, but encompasses the Five Books (Bereshit, Shemot, Vayikra, Bamidbar and Devarim) and the collective Oral Torah and other commentaries. But “the book” read from every week is called a Chumash and only contains the Pentateuch (divided into 54 weekly portions) and the readings from Ne’evim that are paired with each week’s respective portion, plus the Five Megillot read on holidays: Shir HaShirim (Song of Songs AKA Song of Solomon), Ruth, Eicha (Lamentations), Kohelet (Ecclesiastes) and Esther. If you walk into a synagogue, you will not see hundreds of copies of TaNaKh on the shelves but there will be hundreds of Chumashim and Siddurim (prayer books).
