You were deceived. All we do is collecting information available to the public, post it here and make crass and humorous comments about it. It's a thin line, but let me give you an example.
People who went to see court proceedings in Nick Rekieta's case were lauded and celebrated, as court proceedings are public and anybody can attend.
If someone from the forum decided to pretend to be Nick's friend just to take pictures inside his hovel and post it here, they would likely be mocked because that's involving yourself and the forum in the drama.
Nobody here cared about Keffals' opinions and lies. But idiots such as Matthew Prince cared and we almost lost the forum because of this.
Keeping this old tub afloat requires resources you can't grow in your garden or make in your basement.

The debanking argument is another kettle of fish entirely. Perhaps you can argue about the individual (IMO my society is structured in such a way that self-sufficiency in the way you describe is becoming obscenely difficult, particularly for vulnerable people); but an exclusively online community like this can just perish in the blink of an eye because some shadowy corporate overlords said "it's bad optics".
