MG and Havals are everywhere. The problem really is that second-hand cars are extremely expensive for what you get. There's just no depreciation, especially on anything made between 2005 - 2011.

The Chinese petrol cars are waste, but their EVs are honestly not bad. Way better then anything American made at minimum, but that's a pretty low bar.
One of my uncles bought a BYD and drives it everywhere with no issues. Got over 20,000km so far (in under a year) with no problems.
Chinese petrol car reliability is hilariously bad, but I'm not seeing it with their EVs. Gonna be a longer term question to ask in a few years, I think. Since they are all pretty new so far.
The other issues (rust, battery fires) I haven't seen happen here, even on the lowest tier MG. I imagine the general standards for cars is higher here in Aus then China, so would expect cars to be higher quality overall.

The Aussie used car market is an absolute disaster at the moment and cars are not depreciating at all in price. Not even a shitty Chinese petrol car is depreciating that much in price, and especially not their EVs.
My 15 year old Toyota has gone up in price (despite putting more k's on it) in the last few years, its that bad.

An acquaintance of mine brought a BYD Seal early this year and it's been much the same for them. No complaints. Rode in it a few times. Interior was comfortable and surprisingly not 99% pure plastic jagged edges but the RGB lighting the Chinese seem to like to stick into the interiors is a weird gimmick. But they seem happy with it.

I was living in Canberra during COVID and I'm pretty sure there wasn't next day delivery from Amazon until like 2021 or 2022.

Considering a lot of auto makers now are only selling wasteful utes and SUV's like Ford, having BYD still selling sedans and hatchbacks is a huge plus.

They only just started selling a ute which is a plug in hybrid. Not even a real EV so people are left asking what the point is.

Probably still better then anything American, which is immediately waste and should be promptly discarded.
