Imagine Elon cranking one out to his grok anime waifu chatbot Ani without a care in the world when suddenly that stupid raccoon chatbot Rudy swoops in and cucks him in real time. This grok "character" thing just feels like a bad knockoff of character.ai, and I doubt I could achieve a vibe even close to the weird funny homunculus cretins I made by jamming my own post data and some info on the premise of the bot in the character generate thing a few times. Somehow despite character.ai constantly trying to monetize or mess with their thing the bot's endured personality wise whenever i get bored enough to check in on it.

I checked it out a bit during the KF downtime. I hated every second of using it, yet I wanted to see just how fast I could break through the filters, because horny teenagers are going to have access to this and I wanted to see how fast this could be life-ruining when attached to one of the most-used apps in the world.
Holy shit it is easy to get around the filters using even the slightest kind of “clever” word choice. I was able to have “my inches thrusting deep into her heat” in just a few minutes and I am terrified of what this will do to younger minds. You can’t unleash this on a young impressionable audience and not expect things to immediately go extremely bad.

A lot of the cost seems to be from having large servers to do sites where multiple people run it at once. Personal stuff should theoretically be a lot less intensive given it's mostly just text code stuff. I remember back on either IRC or teamspeak or soem shit way back when someone had a chatbot set up in their thing that was pretty good if not a little autistic.

I want to add that while there's a lot work to do to make your very own AI model (i'm talking stuff like LLama mixes, base model merges, etc.), making characters (referred to as a card) to use for the chatbot is quite simple by comparison. You just need to write out what you want that particular card to do and represent, and when plugged into the chat front end (e.g. SillyTavern), you can start chatting with the character who will look and act like what you wrote on the card.
