Not just any plastic, but probably cheap shitty low-quality PLA that I wouldn't even feed a 3D printer I hate. The type that even Flashforge would be too ashamed to dump on Scamazon.

Curious how Linus chose such a shitty sponsor? Shittier probably than upfront chinese furniture.

Since when anyone doing any media have had any standards? As long as they pay they will take it.

There is no choosing, only choice they make is if they are paid enough compared to others and their size.

And what's the catch with Lifetime Warranty? I doubt they are willing to replace these if the sofas last only a few years.
I had a warranty on a couch once. Eventually it started to rip just from being sat on. A guy comes over to inspect it and insinuates that we must have ripped it on purpose and refused to replace or refurbish it. Nobody honors their warranty. It's always an upcharge scam.

Yeah, but at least you can test a couch out before buying it. Paying more than a grand for a couch and it turns out to be trash, then what?
Exactly this, for anything over a thousand dollars. If you're paying four figures, the amount your investing is now high enough that you really should be going and inspecting shit in person. Spending a couple hours to drive out to a furniture store or mattress shop is worth it to avoid paying a couple hundred dollars in return shipping and restock fees if you just gambled on a random online buy and lost. Unless you've got executive level salaries, its a net benefit financially.

And if you do have executive level salaries, the following is the better idea:
Genuinely, it's getting to the point where you're almost better served going to a local carpenter and having them frame out a couch then upholstering it yourself.
This is the way - Although I'd skip upholstering a half finished job, most cities have a couple businesses that'll do custom couches and chairs.

It continues to amuse me that corporate production of goods is becoming so threadbare and low quality that we're regressing back to artisanal production of things just because the cost savings aren't worth the accumulated hassle of all the cut corners.

Fuck it, full acceleration on that trend. An artisinal production-heavy economy will give us better wages, better working conditions, and the option to NOT send half our incomes to a bunch of billionaire kikes on Wall Street.

Maybe they had some bullshit job at NCIX that shut down in 2017?
He's originally from Newfoundland and worked at a PC shop there. He moved to BC to join LMG
HCL is, in my experience, not a hard rule, so much as "We tried these and can vouch that our samples worked."
Yeah I bought RAM that was not on the Gigabyte QVL and it works fine. I'm an idiot and bought a Gigabyte X570 Aorus Master and I would not do that again. Not only is it overly expensive piece of shit, but the Gigabyte firmware is total garbage. I had a persistent issue with a failed POST on cold boot that would lead to the BIOS resetting with no clues as to why.

I spent a lot of time fucking around with different configs, wondering if my RAM was bad or the next BIOS update would fix it. Only after buying a new GPU did I realize the PSU was fucked up and after swapping that, it never reset itself again. Gigabyte could've saved me a lot of trouble by adding a message like "Settings reset due to dogshit 12V supply"

Anyway what kind of computer genius uses fucking Wi-Fi for their workstation PC?
These are absolutely god-awful looking sectionals (rovelab.com), and the model of mail-order dense memory foam furniture/mattresses is honestly kinda sad, but is the result of the furniture/upholstery industry racing to the bottom.
Niggers are dumping better shit on the side of the road right now.

What I don't understand anymore is what happened to just using Ikea? Yeah it's cheap stuff but it was actually engineered by europeans before they went ultra mega gay on immigration, and was made to be economical in manufacture and shipping. Ikea shit lasts forever if not a sacrificial item for kids or retards.

I hate Chyna so much.

One who lives in an apartment/their mom's basement and isn't allowed to do networking through the walls and is too stupid to use command strips, zip ties, and cable tiedown points, or one who's too fucking lazy to install cabling.

Ikea shit lasts forever.

It used to.

If you buy Ikea furniture 2nd hand manufactured before ~2018 it will last you forever, but anything more recent is obscenely lower quality. Often times without even changing their quirky Ikea name for the product.
The most noticeable are all of their wooden products moving to a junk-quality composite materials, metal brackets have largely been phased-out, and more things rely on clips or bindings rather than actual braces or solid/reinforced layers.

I'm not even saying every piece of furniture needs to be solid wood and last for a lifetime. There is a market for low-cost, lightweight, shippable furniture you can throw together and use functionally. But all new and refreshed Ikea SKUs are unfit even for that purpose. A scant few of their products are still of decent quality, but that decreases every day.

And I promise I'm not a quality autist, I don't even really care that Ikea tolerances and QA have gone to shit, I'm fine with drilling my own holes, breaking out my planar, and sourcing my own washers/dowels/rails when their sweatshop assembly line fucks up. But my consistent experience over the last couple years has been Ikea furniture struggles to stand on its own, everything seems to sag or warp, and you end up holding your breath whenever you set something down or put your weight on them the wrong way,

Can't say I've had any problems with it, furnished an apartment just last year. Just has the usual Ikea issue where its doubtful it'd survive moving to a new place in the future, but its serviceable for shelving, desks and the like. But this was in Canada, maybe its shittier elsewhere.

It's not even that $1000 is a lot to spend on a couch or anything, it's that the quality of everything has gone to absolute shit. These will have a lifespan of 2-3 years and be uncomfortable the entire time, but your alternative is other mail-order memory foam cubes or playing the Wayfair chinese shitscam lottery. It's not until you're paying insane markups in the $5K+ range where you can anticipate not just getting low-quality Chinese rebadges, and even then you're usually limited by availability/options.
The thing is anyone can buy a great quality couch for next to nothing if they can be bothered going to estate sales or secondhand furniture stores. There are always solid 20-40 year old couches there. If you're lucky, it'll have nice upholstery in good condition that'll clean up great.

If the covering isn't to your taste or is a bit tired, get it reupholstered. It might cost anywhere from $1k-$3k depending on the covering and how good the upholsterer is, but if the bones are solid it'll last another 20-40 years. That, and you're keeping a craftsman in business.

The only problem is that this involves effort, which is something very few people want to expend these days.

I probably should have posted this in the BIFL thread

My biggest frustration is that desk seats are utterly crap. The second last one I bought and assembled was so crap, that the holes for the screws were misaligned and I had to press hard in order to make the screws fit in both pieces. I paid around 100$, but even more expensive seats are garbage, since they are "for gaming".
I learned my lesson that any fake leather seat is garbage and I would rather buy a textile one with soft back for the spine. It is cheaper and more comfortable.

I made myself a seat from a old car seat and a used high quality office chair base, been using it for years now. Incredibly comfortable compared to most seats and a lot more durable.
I have seen people in this thread complaining about Linus underpaying his employes. If anything Anthony proves if he was paying them a cent more then minimum wage then he is grossly overpaying them. This ogre has spent 7 fucking years in LTT yet he is unable to build a pc that works. If he mucks up his own shit this bad Imagine how much of a shit show it was when dealing with company computers.
The pay is probably one of the reasons why everyone in the company is so inept. Why would any professional go to LMG? They already had that one guy in the labs that left to logitech because it was a massive waste of his time

The autonomous chairs are really nice, but pricey. (and they have a stupid .ai domain now for some reason 😩). They do last though. I've had mine for nearly 4 years. I also avoid any gamer esthetics as they're almost all garbage.

IKEA is garbage.

Do not buy IKEA.

Never buy IKEA.

It's better to have no furniture at all than to buy anything from IKEA. Especially when you can get actual antiques at auctions or from stores for the same price or lower. And these will look nice and last forever. If you can't afford proper furniture, don't get anything at all.
