Spoony for all his faults was consistently funny and he didn't troon out. The combination of health issues, twitter addiction and overall burnout was an understandable end to his routine for me. I definitely had a lot more empathy for his decision when I briefly toyed with the idea of consistently uploading things to YouTube.
If Spoony made videos again his content would be just as stale as the rest of them.
Yeah I think there would be a case of rose tinted glasses if he came back.
If he were to put out an episode of Spoony today, he would get a flood of views. People would be there just for the spectacle, we hate the bastard, but we would still watch it. and probably most of his former peers like Doug, Brad, Linkara even, would promote it. His controversies are far passed him now; even the videos detailing his fall are ancient history now. Most people who mention him on YouTube are only looking back with nostalgia.
I guess when your life doesn't turn out they way you thought it would, you either go into a decade-long sulk (like Spoony), change genders to attract attention (like the rest of channel awesome), or resolve to make the best you can of things.
It started when Scarlet dumped him in early 2011 and he got diagnosed with depression and was put on medication for it. The problem was he was actually bipolar and the meds just made him worse, leading to some of his infamous moments in 2012 that got him kicked off CA.
That would make a good plot for a film. A washed up e-celeb finally makes his movie a decade after his fall from relevance. A look at his journey trying to pitch his film and nobody remembers who he is. "But I won the 2009 Mashable Award for Best Internet Personality! What do you mean you never heard of me!" Wacky hijinks ensue as he tries and fails to regain his Internet fame. Throw in a bunch of cameos from other washed up e-celebs and memes from 20 years ago. I might watch it.

I actually was just thinking about this other day. Spoony had arguably the worst fall from grace of any ThatGuyWithTheGlasses member (except Jew Wario lmao). He's literally a middle-aged bum who lost everything, including his girlfriend and his dog... but people still remember him unlike the majority of his peers who have been lost to internet history, Honestly, if could just muster up any amount of passion and discipline, turn on a stream and maybe even put out a video or two, I genuinely think he could make a small come back. Doug, Angry Joe, James Rolfe, Stuttering Craig, Pro Jared, and, shit, even Bob Chipman are all living proof that middle-aged has-beens from the 00s to early 10s can still make it in this content creator game if they're just consistent enough.
He did that for years, with less and less consistency over time, and it was generally always shit.
I'd say Twitter and sitting on his ass getting rusty for years did more lasting damage but speaking from experience and what I've seen in others, when it comes to making you dumb and lazy alcohol beats any other drug out there except maybe weed.
And when people did try to help him, he told them to fuck off until they realized their attempts were just wasting time.
This scatterbrained mess of a web series makes more sense when you realize the whole thing was basically just an open mic audition to be every character in some bargain-bin Mr. Show knockoff.
Earthworm Jim was ahead of its time. If it had came out 10 or 15 years later it'd be just as revered by insufferable fanboys as stuff like Undertale and Rick & Morty because it's the exact same blend of absurdist 'lol random' humour and oddball characters.
I always keep having some memory of Spoony and AVGN doing at least some kind of colllab work, but I looked it over and most I saw is someone saying Mike said they recorded something but it was never released, which sounds like BS. It seems like they'd have been a good match for it in the early days, but I guess James thought Pat Contri was somehow a bigger deal for that. Or maybe Spoony just didn't want to.
If I recall correctly, there was a video, not a canonical AVGN episode, where the Nerd was at a convention playing Dr. Jekyll for NES. Spoony was in the audience and tried to make some witty comments which pretty much fell flat. Then he kind of say there and sulked.
