This is just motte and bailey but for online comedians/influencers. On one hand, these people are serious red-pill dispensers (Dyer for his purported esoteric & religious content, Hyde for his no bullshit life advice & /pol/itics), but whenever they mess up and do something that calls into question their character and whether they can be trusted for matters of the highest gravitas (Dyer in particular, for he spends large amounts of time in the sphere of the religious, concerning the ultimate state of one's very soul), they can they fall back to the "I'm just a comedian, lol why do you take me seriously at all? Losers!".

There's a reason why the role of the court jester never overlapped with the theologian or philosopher -- their goal, or 'telos' if you will, are at complete odds with each other.

It's like Sam's buddy Frank Hassle. It's funny to watch Frank go around and hassle people but if you were being hassled it wouldn't be that fun. Just a quick moment where Sam Hyde's facade drops and he can't rely on his physical size to domineer someone.

funnily enough, Frank said at one point that he wanted to hassle Sam on Fishtank because he knows hes pretty thin skinned and would get easily annoyed if the heat was put on him. he was going to get Burt to try and flirt with him or something. theres honestly a million ways to bother Sam, the dude freaked out over the idea of touching a fish and throws a tantrum if he smells air freshener. all Harland did was show this chink in his armor.

also, one time Frank tried to hassle some fisherman and the guy just laughed and called him a fat neckbeard, and his whole bit fell to pieces. Frank ran away after realizing the guy mogged him and was unbothered. maybe he didnt want to do what Sam did by getting overly physical/trying too hard in an attempt to "win" the battle. everyone can be one upped.

Wasn't about the joke. More about the level of riffing. Also it ramps up from there. That's the first 30 seconds. He ends up convincing Joe he has a tape worm and pulls out celery and eats it. Joe is so oblivious that he's telling Harland that tape worms are bad and he needs to get rid of it and not feed it.

The Baskin Robbins example is to show the level of irreverence of Harland (random association, 30 -> 31 -> Baskin Robbins) and Joe's block-headedness and gullibility. Harland spends the entire podcast lobbing them straight down home plate and Joe is missing every swing. And Joe begins boiling and getting so testy and short with him.

I do recommend it despite admitting the Baskin Robbins intro isn't a 10/10

I think the vibes might've been a little more salvageable had that table not been seemingly high school classroom weight/strength, which cannot be common 9/10 times on shitty little podcasts like that.
Either that or sam has already lost his gainz. If Sam had grabbed the table, flipped it and sat back down in less than 5 seconds (which I guess might've been what he was imagining in his head when he decided to go through with it) maybe it could've been funny.

When Sam tells someone to avoid path A, and instead take path B, are you certain this is well thought out advice, or is it the split impulse of someone who is minutes/seconds away from chimping out? The following show Dr Steve Brule was getting 500k-600k a mere 15mins later. Viewers were tuning out because of World Peace. When they axed World Peace and just stuffed reruns of Robot Chicken they were getting 700-800k viewers. World Peace was a flaming pile of dogshit on the stoop of the Adult Swim executives and its no fucking wonder that they shitcanned it. If it was pulling Rick and Morty numbers (2M+) they'd have some sort of justification to ride out the storm, instead they had some primadonna /pol/ sperg being an annoying piece of shit while running a bad product in a prime slot. Nick and Charls were right to be pissed with Sam because 12:15pm Saturday night(technically Sunday morning) is as cherry a time slot you could ever ask for.

I haven't really seen Jay Dyer pull the 'ol John Stewart when it comes to any of his own claims. The guy can be funny conversationally, but his "comedy" convinces me he has some level of actual autism—which I sometimes enjoy, myself also having actual autism.

He's a lot more likely to try and schedule a six-hour moderated formal debate over whatever the obscure disagreement is about than retreat into the "comedy" bailey.
