Kamala Khan is one of the most "why does this character still get shilled (besides the patently obvious reasons)" additions to the Marvel lineup ever, besides being born of the sort of fetishistic fascination with Muslima characters in fiction a lot of people have. She reeks of the sort of also-ran characters Marvel, the Distinguished Competition and others introduced in the 70s, 80s, and 90s in an attempt to prove how fresh and "with it" they were that would quietly be left to the wayside, except she has been shilled so hard. She feels artificially sustained.

Most writers don't do much to differentiate her from other modern superhero characters who constantly make references to fanfiction, pop culture and "geeking out" over working with veteran superheroes, besides her supposedly being halal observant.

This sort of "humor" where characters make references to fanfic and being geeks, it's sort of tedious isn't it? That's mostly what I associate "Ms. Marvel" with, along with the sort of humorous dialog you write if you are a person where the the majority of your communication with otherpeople is done through forums/Twitter/Tumblr/etc.

I saw it in a Youtube video and was wondering if anyone else has heard of it and whether or not its total sloppa or not. I don't trust Youtubers when it comes to modern comic takes.

Apparently theres a lot of Power Rangers/Sentai inspiration which is cool but yeah modern comics can be a bit of a landmine sometimes.

Robbie was one of the main Avengers for Jason Aaron's run. He wound up sacrificing himself to save everything, made every Avenger promise to take care of his family for him, and is apparently just in some sort of limbo.

Guy never lost himself to his dark side, earned the respect of the world for putting his ass on the line against indescribable horrors, and won. Not bad for a spic kid raising his disabled brother. I recall it all being in some event-tier story by Aaron that was tying up a ton of stuff. I guess he really fucking liked Robbie and wanted to have him go out with a bang (with an easily written way to come back).

Not every character gets a good writer, or even one that genuinely likes them. Robbie still got plenty of screentime in the MCU in Agents of SHIELD and whatnot. It's odd that he didn't get more focus during this period since a really good writer could have knocked it out of the park during the time in which Marvel really wanted to push non-F4/X stuff.

I've heard the Radiant Black stuff is enjoyable. I don't know too much, but it's apparently started as a passion project.

Ghost Rider is a weird character (all of them to be fair) is that they are characters I always forget exist in the Marvel Universe and Marvel never really knows what to do with them.

The Psylocke comic is fun. While I like Betsy, I personally find Kwannon a lot more interesting as a character. Plus I like her new outfit. She doesn't have butt floss anymore, thank christ.

The black hair works for her. It still appears purple in its sheen. Anyway she's seeing ghosts and shit.

Also the Hellions series was fantastic imo. Her, John Greycrow, Sinister, Havok, Wild Child, Nanny, etc. It very much reminded me of Secret Six.

That being said there is some sort of negress on Cyclops team with a fro......

It was retconned that only rookies have a weakness to yellow and eventually GLs learn how to get around it with more experience. Then Geoff Johns retconned it that the weakness against yellow is because that's the color of the demon Parallax who is the embodiment of fear. And Green Lanterns need to overcome their fear. I don't know if it got changed after the mid-00s, I stopped reading when the New 52 started.

Agreed it’s my favorite of the Krakoa X-Men comics. The fact it gets you to care about terrible people like Empath and Scalphunter just shows how good the writing was in it. I don’t usually like it when the writers turn Havok into an insecure mess, but I actually didn’t hate it during this series. Too bad it didn’t last as long as some of the other popular titles.

I’ve actually been reading this one. I forgot her name but she dates back to right after the second coming event (2010ish) if you’ve ever read that. She doesn’t really add much to the story which makes you wonder why she’s on the team at all. You could probably skip every word she says and have no issue following the plot.

I haven't done one of these in awhile. Scare Tactics, a DC comic featuring a group of teenage monster who form a rock band to hide from the government. Its terrible. Its awful. It also has the funniest fucking cover I've ever seen on a comic.

I'm going all the way back to the first issue. Pages 2-3, a double page spread. First real introduction of the characters in their own book. Here's the published version.

Good look at all the characters, but overall, a little flat. Now, here's the unpublished version.

The unpublished version is, in my opinion, more visually dynamic. You have characters on two different planes. You do lose the sludge guy wrecking the car in better detail, but its more visually engaging. I can understand why they went with the published version, even though its probably not the version I would have chosen.

Well worth your time if you like either or both characters. #20-24 is a follow-up to Kingdom Come (ignoring The Kingdom follow-up from the late '90s), and #41 (featuring Bizarro and Batzarro) is out now.

The Whisperer arc in the walking dead is ungodly stupid because of one small detail that people forget to consider about zombies.

They are rotten bodies and rotten bodies are cesspools for diseases. So you mean to tell me the whisperers lived among walkers for years wearing leatherface styled walker masks that I absolutely doubt are in a proper state where they arent still decaying and the whisperers havent died off from getting sick from basic ass diseases from standing next moving rotting bodies for all this time?

That arc was retarded in both the comic and the TV show.

I think Kirkman was running out of ideas for where to take the series. Pretty sure he wanted to keep it going because at that point, it was one of the best selling comics on the stands because of the TV show, but he didn't really know what to do with it until he saw an opportunity to do a commentary on President Hilary with the new Governor.

The idea of having people live among the dead could have worked as an earlier arc, but by this point we have a civilization re-emerging and the Whisperer's would be seeing this. Had they been the villains before Negan, or even the Governor, and only stuck around for one or two volumes, fine. But the amount of time given to them caused the arc to drag on for too long.

Just finished reading "Batman - Damned", one of these comics i picked up because of a YT video popping up in my recommends (i don't watch the videos, just deciding to pick up a comic by the artwork shown in the thumbnail usually). Neat little story, the writing is up its own ass a bit but the artwork is amazing, especially the backgrounds. Having Constantine (and a brilliantly designed Swamp Thing) in it was another plus. Didn't blow me away like something like Arkham Asylum did but it was an alright read, i like the Batman comics that go real dark when it comes to its protagonist and this one certainly did go hard on that front. Worth a read for the artwork alone i think.

I think Kirkman was running out of ideas for where to take the series.

First 80 or so issues of TWD remain some of my most favourite US comics, i initially picked it up because of a Shane reaction image someone posted on 4chan, the character design and general artwork is just outstanding. That said, i too felt that Kirkman was struggling with coming up with new ideas and i dropped the book around the time when Negan killed Alpha, the "Big Bad shows up -> Rick is rallying the troops with a big speech -> Battle with side characters dying" formula was entirely played out at that point.

How the fuck did Zeb Wells write something so good, when everything else he does is so shit? It's like Dennis Hopeless' excellent Nova mini, then he turns around and works on Rick and Morty and Quantumania.
It was so fun, each character was distinct, had great interpersonal dynamics, and the plotlines were interesting, even when roped into the events.

Is it Idie? She was interesting in her early days. She was one of the first few new mutants that Hope had to "awaken". If I recall correctly, she was from some tribal society and they were gonna kill her for being a "witch", so she had this built-in sense of guilt and self-deprecation. Then she had no choice but to kill a bunch of [some anti-mutant org I don't remember which] soldiers to save some innocents, and she was fully traumatized by it, descending into half suicidal abandon and half murderous psychopathic nihilism. It was her relationship with Quire of all people that helped her heal over time.

But later on she's written just like anyone else. No regard to what she's been through or the trajectory of her character.

Makes me think about how incongruous Krakoa's version of Betsy Bradock is with how she was written previously, particularly during Remender's run.
