The real crazy thing is knowing there was the forums for people to post their attempt to join CA, which led to a bunch of insane people.

Allison, rather infamously, began her descent into madness on the Channel Awesome forums. She never quite cracked the code for convincing a cabal of dwindling weirdos that her "Baywatching" retrospective was worth your time.

The CA personalities, much like normal media personalities, all were egomaniacs looking to be validated and respected. They wanted others to view them as being great and at the top of the pyramid of their selected craft.

YouTube and other internet content platforms are paved with the fractured remains of these types of people.

And due to being on the site, they thought they had some level of validation as they were "part of a select group" that was pretty much just what Doug and Rob thought would be funny, or they were just a woman and the guys were desperate to pump up the numbers on their female contributors, which is the only reason Marzgurl and Allison were kept on despite not bringing anyone in. Hell, That Chick With The Goggles abandoned her channel pretty quickly but was still kept on the site for years.

Then Blip shut down and they had to go back to youtube, where they were forced to realize just how much they needed Doug and long clips from movies.

It’s a baffling channel. Like 80% of it is just this upstairs-loop purgatory of voiceovers about Baywatch episodes and Charmed comics, which, okay, the Charmed stuff is surprisingly competent, but then the videos that get ALL the views are just these brutal vlogs where she and Phelan sit there doing a podcast for no one, edited by Film Brain, who apparently lives in the comments.

There’s this weird YouTube mutual aid society between the three of them.

My memory’s like Swiss cheese, but I don’t recall Spoony really registering on Allison’s radar. It’s bizarre, because she had a thermonuclear hate stiffy for Brad and Doug for years.

1. The thing with "Obscurus Lupa": her original gimmick was like, werewolf stuff, Cinemax/softcore horror. (Maven of the Eventide absorbed that whole aesthetic like the Borg. I was not an Elisa watcher, but you’ve got to admit, production-wise, she was like proto-ContraPoints.)
2. Allison ended up looking like Nostalgia Chick’s understudy. And if you're told to pick your flavor of mid-2010s feminist video essayist, you’re gonna tap Lindsay Ellis.
3. Allison (classic Spoony blunder) picked one B-actor to fixate on like they were a life raft. Spoony had Reb, Lupa had Cynthia Rothrock, and when that dried up and she had to pivot, she was frantically auditioning actors to piggyback off of. She tried Kate Hodge, then Billy Drago (hence Charmed) and eventually, the Hoff.

You had Doug Truthers, you had Spoony Truthers (Spoony kind of exited the field by ghosting his own channel while pocketing the Patreon money). Entire cottage industries sprang up on DHI, ED. Mind you, this was pre-Justin revelations. People were analyzing Doug's marriage like it was the Zapruder film.

It was basically a preview of the future: we decide whether someone is shitlib or chud-coded, and from there we invalidate their body of work.

Not just Baywatch, but baywatch and every one of its spinoffs.

They can sometimes be entertaining. But it fell off when she started holding back the bite of her humor to be more PC. (The charmed reviews were hilarious when she started screaming in rage at Phoebe.)
