I'm a huge fan of various traditional pasta dishes and I have tried to get "creative" with them, 9 out of 10 times it just flops. It's pasta and I know how to cook so it's still edible but there's just something about it that's not right.
(A couple of hacks that do work are adding thinly sliced spicy salami in carbonara or pair rigatoni with peas like a Br*t.)
