My apologies if this was posted before, but I actually did see
a report by the Canadian government about this. It's from
Policy Horizons and it was published at the beginning of this year. It's a quick read.
The GIST of the report is that by 2040:
- pursuing post-secondary education will no longer be considered a reliable path regarding social mobility,
- owning a home will not be a realistic goal for the majority,
- inheritance will be seen by the majority as the only reliable way to get ahead financially,
- people will rarely mix with others of different socioeconomic status
- the value of human labour will shrink due to the rising use of AI
- the goal of social mobility among youth will be at odds with expectations of immobility
The government really does lay out the basics of what's gonna happen, even if they don't wanna admit how bad it's really gonna get. Wade through their jargon and euphemism and you get a pretty good picture though. The government feels comfortable releasing stuff like this because they know the majority of Canadians are too dumb to read, let alone doubt the government.
