A heated row has broken out over a move by Britain's largest bakery chain to launch a vegan sausage roll.

The pastry, which is filled with a meat substitute and encased in 96 pastry layers, is available in 950 Greggs stores across the country.

It was promised after 20,000 people signed a petition calling for the snack to be launched to accommodate plant-based diet eaters.

But the vegan sausage roll's launch has been greeted by a mixed reaction: Some consumers welcomed it, while others voiced their objections.

Cook and food poverty campaigner Jack Monroe declared she was "frantically googling to see what time my nearest opens tomorrow morning because I will be outside".

While TV writer Brydie Lee-Kennedy called herself "very pro the Greggs vegan sausage roll because anything that wrenches veganism back from the 'clean eating' wellness folk is a good thing".

One Twitter user wrote that finding vegan sausage rolls missing from a store in Corby had "ruined my morning".

Another said: "My son is allergic to dairy products which means I can't really go to Greggs when he's with me. Now I can. Thank you vegans."

TV presenter Piers Morgan led the charge of those outraged by the new roll.

"Nobody was waiting for a vegan bloody sausage, you PC-ravaged clowns," he wrote on Twitter.

Mr Morgan later complained at receiving "howling abuse from vegans", adding: "I get it, you're all hangry. I would be too if I only ate plants and gruel."

Another Twitter user said: "I really struggle to believe that 20,000 vegans are that desperate to eat in a Greggs."

"You don't paint a mustach (sic) on the Mona Lisa and you don't mess with the perfect sausage roll," one quipped.

Journalist Nooruddean Choudry suggested Greggs introduce a halal steak bake to "crank the fume levels right up to 11".

The bakery chain told concerned customers that "change is good" and that there would "always be a classic sausage roll".

It comes on the same day McDonald's launched its first vegetarian "Happy Meal", designed for children.

The new dish comes with a "veggie wrap", instead of the usual chicken or beef option.

It should be noted that Piers Morgan and Greggs share the same PR firm, so I'm thinking this is some serious faux outrage and South Park KKK gambiting here.

Personally for all the shitting on for the government response of Covid, I think they actually did a decent job during the first lockdown at least.

Yes, COVID ended up being a complete fucking nothing disease that only really affected the elderly, the mongs and fatties but the emergence of a rapidly spreading disease that was filling up hospitals and morgues across the world with limited knowledge on what the long term effects were was frankly terrifying and I can understand why the world essentially went into panic mode. There's an alternative reality where 6 months down the line people started having liver or kidney failure which would cause immeasurable damage to the world population.

The second lockdown is where they lost it and it felt like they did it out of complete spite as it was obvious by then it only really affected the elderly. Had they literally let everyone do whatever the fuck they wanted that Summer we could have shaved billions off the pension bill. Honestly the worst offenders of lockdown breaking WERE the fucking elderly who ran on the basis of "Something will kill me at this age anyway hehe".

they wasted time investigating 'DV' even though my ex was absolutely adamant that they 1) did not want to give a formal statement 2) did not want to press charges and 3) had no interest in escalating it any further.
That's how dv investegations go. The abused does not press charges. If someone reports dv the police investigate it and they will press charges. This isn't shop lifting where it's down to the individual to decide it is serious enough where the police will automatically press charges. That's how all serious crime goes, much less a serious crime where victims often refuse to press charges because they are often too scared to do so. The second anyone even implies that there might be a dv case the police should treat it as if there is one and they should investigate even if the victim doesn't want to press charges. They will also normally get a statement from someone before they go to hospital so they have something to go off of incase that person never leaves hospital. Overly cautious is good in all policing let alone serious shit. Expecting them to just take your word for it and fuck off would be an absolutely retarded presedent to set and would only ever endanger victims.

There's plenty of reasons why the police here are fucking dogshit, be that issues with the police themselves, the support from or lack thereof and bullshit the government pulls, to judges giving retarded sentences, all the way to general public being faggots. There is an endless number of ways to say the police are retarded. Thoroughly investigating a dv case is not one of them.

Also yes there very much should be sayings about how fucking retarded doctors and teachers are. If you don't think nurses and the nhs are equally as retarded as the police are then you've never had to deal with them. And the majority of teachers don't actually give a shit about teaching kids, they just want to shove whatever edexcel slop down their throat and hope enough of them memorise it so they don't get fired. Out of the 50 or so teachers I had pre college I would say only about 3 of them were actually good teachers. Considering one of those 50 was probably a nonce and one of them was just a straight up nonce who repeatedly tried hitting on kids until he got fired, yea teachers aren't exactly great either. It's just no american niggers get pissed off at british healthcare killing their momma's baby daddy's drug dealer so they don't need to make songs about how much they hate the nhs unlike the police.

This is one of those times when I want to say "it begins", but that always jinxes it. We'll see.
Have you read/watched any of the David Betz stuff? He's pretty convinced that when we look back, we will consider 'the beginning' to be at some point in the recent past. If he's correct, it's not so much a beginning that is coming, but an escalation.

The Epping stuff is actually really interesting because unlike the riots last year it seems like they're going by the same logic as lefty protests where it's a sustained mass presence with nothing in particular happening other than some shouting. It ensures that police are stretched tight, there's nothing they can essentially get done for, and the longer it goes on, the more it puts pressure on the hotel and council to shut it down. This kind of thing must be terrifying to the police because when even Big Baz is being smart and refusing to take the bait so the protest can be shut down then you've got real problems.

Imagine if this sort of protest was happening in multiple cities across the UK, it'd hit a point where the police would be unable to monitor all areas.

Just a shame that Fifth Columnist wanker Tommy Robinson has announced he's protesting in Epping which will inevitably get it shut down.

It's interesting, about 8 minutes in, that all the police can muster is a single line to hold back the protestors. It wouldn't take much to push through. I wonder what it would take to get people to take the next step. If the shit hit the fan I don't think they would be able to do anything - they are relying on the long ingrained respect for the police that is all but gone.

I know that where I live the police are almost nonexistent, and everything is running on inertia from the "before times". When something important is going on, I have heard directly from them that they are all taken out of the county and there's no presence at all.

Apparently 🌈 it will be 🌈 , for (((some reason))) however the fact shit is being actively organized right now is just not being mentioned outside of one tiny little hit piece in one measly newspaper last Saturday.

https://inews.co.uk/news/anti-migrant-demos-planned-dover-norwich-across-uk-epping-violence-3813747/https://archive.is/USWgB
Anti-migrant protests are being planned to take place in towns across the UK after police were attacked by demonstrators near a migrant hotel in Essex last night.
Details of planned demonstrations in towns and cities such as Dover, Bournemouth, Norwich and Manchester, have been shared by members of the far right online.
Police in regions including Kent and Norfolk have confirmed they are preparing for protests, as fears grow of a repeat of violent scenes in Epping on Thursday.
Essex Police confirmed two people were arrested and eight officers were injured after demonstrators threw missiles and smashed police vans and windows near The Bell Hotel in the town.
Tensions have escalated after Hadush Gerberslasie Kebatu, 38, an asylum seeker from Ethiopia, was charged with three sexual assaults and inciting a girl to engage in sexual activity, just days after arriving in the UK via small boat.
He is understood to have been housed at The Bell Hotel.

The demonstrations also come after it emerged the Government used a superinjunction to block reporting that thousands of Afghans were secretly relocated to the UK, after a Ministry of Defence data leak put them at risk of death from the Taliban.
A further protest is planned in Epping on Sunday. Calls for a repeat of the violence have been issued on social media, with one X user who describes themselves as a “British Patriot” sharing a video of people facing off against riot police on X, saying: “Epping kicking off. Same again Sunday.”
Essex Police assistant chief constable Stuart Hooper has called for calm, saying: “I ask the people of Epping to unite with us and stand against criminality and criminals but also to remain calm.”
A separate far-right protest is planned for Dover on Saturday.
Organisers are calling on “millions” to turn up at the event, citing “cover-ups of the Afghan refugees”. A crowdfunder for “advertising, promotion, legal costs” has so far raised more than £30,000.

An X account connected to the organisation of the protest wrote “we are on the brink of civil war” and has called on a number of figures associated with the far right for support, including former EDL leader Tommy Robinson and Paul Golding, leader of Britain First.
Further protests have been publicised in the next three weeks in Bournemouth, Norwich, Glasgow and Manchester.
One promotional poster described the Bournemouth demonstration as being “against illegal migrants being housed in our town”. Another for the Norwich event said it did not want the Norfolk city to be “the next Rochdale”, in an apparent reference to the grooming gangs scandal.
Later this year, in September, a large far-right rally is scheduled to take place in London, organised by Tommy Robinson, real name Stephen Yaxley-Lennon.

Police monitoring protests

Police chiefs will be wary of how far-right riots spread across the UK last year after starting in Southport in the wake of the murder of three young girls at a dance class.
A spokesperson for Kent Police confirmed the force is aware of a planned protest expected in Dover this weekend and would be ensuring “sufficient resources are in place”.

They said: “The force is liaising with local partner agencies and those involved in the event have been reminded of their obligations to ensure the protest remains peaceful, lawful and that disruption to the local area is kept to a minimum.”
Norfolk Police, Greater Manchester Police, Dorset Police and Police Scotland said they were all aware of planned protests and would be working to minimise disruption.
A Home Office spokesperson said: “We are also taking immediate action to fix the broken asylum system we inherited. We are increasing asylum decision making and removing over 35,000 people, including failed asylum seekers, immigration and foreign national offenders, and there are now fewer asylum hotels open than since the election.”
Got the usual hard-far-alt-extreme-right/tommeh bingo combos of course so I'm not too 🌈 myself but hey it's free fuel for the fire.

Or they’re allowing these protests to happen so they can close down the hotels, say that people demanded it, and go full steam ahead with moving them into every available house in the country at the expense of the actual citizens.
More abuse as women's football grows - Bronze:
Remember how hard they went after Joey Barton for saying women’s football is shit. They tried to send his to prison for arguing with his wife.

I don’t know why our elites are trying to ram this down our throats.

Six people have been arrested during the latest protest outside a hotel used to house asylum seekers in Essex.
Ch Supt Simon Anslow said it was disappointing to see the protest escalate into "mindless thuggery".

"I think I speak for all of us – including the people of Epping – when I say we've had enough of your criminality," he added.
Imagine saying that to the locals who have been assaulted and raped, in a town with an asylum hotel where rapists and thugs live. 🤡

I switched up details a few times to keep it anonymous but it's more or less the exact truth
You're an idiot. You heard everybody warning you that you were posting too much personal information and you should change some details to make yourself less identifiable. And instead of thinking "I should change my behaviour to foil bad actors such as change a few details in a consistent way" you thought "I should change my behaviour to please other posters and tell them how I keep changing details".

And though I have not much sympathy for the person who told me that in my "heart of hearts I enjoy the pain of women", much less from someone who self-confessedly tells their partner she'll kill him / her for leaving their coat on the floor (what, were you dating a nine year old, btw?), or who also says she has no sympathy for women afraid to leave abusive relationships, I still decided to give you this advice in the vague hope you might learn to protect yourself against bad actors.

EDIT:
Well it was obviously the sock of the poster who everyone had been telling they were PL'ing too much and should change it. Just figured if she'd stopped posting on the old account before starting the new, I'd politely ignore it. Figure others were doing the same given we'd been telling her the old account had shared too much info.

Do they contribute anything remotely of value?
They play football. (No)

Their already full steam ahead on that one. If they use this, it'll be a post facto justification for what they've already done. More likely is they'll try to minimise the connection between the protests and the hotels and then arrest everyone involved for "terrorism".

@femboy fart huffer I'm not the remotest bit upset that I was investigated for DV, it's that police ignored my pleas to get them medical help first, prioritised that and then refused to call them an ambulance.

You are entitled to believe it was right for them to ignore someone in active septic shock (many believe earth is flat, after all): you weren't there, you didn't hear the desperation in my voice.

They try to play football. Badly. At about an under 15 boys level. But then claim it's sexist that they aren't paid the same as men who would beat them 20-0 ( I'm probably being generous ) and actually fill out stadiums at full price ticket cost. Anyone who points this out to them is abusive.

There's some comedy to be had listening to the commentators try to justify it being only 1-1 after ten penalties have been taken. I'll be watching Our Girls tomorrow night.

I'm already dreading the cringeworthy cooing over "are brave Lionesses" in the media once they inevitably get spanked 5-0 by Spain in the finals, along with the pearl clutching over some black player getting "a tsunami of hateful racial abuse" on social media from a few Russian bot accounts. Nobody actually gives a shit about women's football, I'll only watch it as a last resort if I have absolutely fuck all else to do, every other football fan I know feels the same but apparently the "Lionesses" are such a huge cultural institution that they have their own fucking tube line named in honour of them.
