Given how Wardens are seen by the community at large, i don't think anyone wants to see what else they'd stick in the caves.
I thought people liked the Warden? I thought it was a pretty good concept. It forces you to think about your surroundings and use building to your advantage in a way other parts of the game don't. My only complaint, really, is that the blindness effect is far too aggressive.

The actual problem with the Warden is that he's very powerful but the Ancient City doesn't hold anything remotely worth dealing with an instant kill hazard like him. I'm also still incredibly resentful about the fact that they teased the big portal structure as if it was a big deal and then in the final update it literally does nothing.

I thought it was a pretty good concept.
It's a half-decent concept that is hamstrung by both the (lack of) reward and how it is configured- either doing obscene amounts of damage or high amounts of damage while upending all established conventions surrounding attacks, respectively.
I could go into detail on how the projectile is fucked as that's my biggest gripe but i do not want to do that tonight so i will not.

Not sure if you mean the technical implementation of the sonic shriek or how it functions in gameplay. I did have one instance where I was on the other end of the city, the Warden suddenly got angry, and then proceeded to obliterate me from another country, but that's the only time I had any issue with it.

I think it just needs a better reward and maybe a way to tame/permanently defeat the Warden. There's no way they just permanently abandon the giant indestructible portal structure, right? Right?

It's nujang, so I wouldn't put it past them, lmao

Lol didn’t some dude at Mojang literally say that the purpose of the unique reinforced deepslate block in that portal was just to “add mystery”? They created the portal structure simply to “add mystery” and not much else.

technical implementation
All is niggerhardcode, last i looked in depth. I think they finally exposed it to datapack edits but i expect that to be jank and fucktarded if i ever bother tampering with it in that manner instead of with a forgemod.
how it functions in gameplay
As you experienced, it ignores terrain.
It also ignores shields (not even creepers do this, even charged- or the Wither, for that matter), armor, armor toughness (FIRE doesn't even do that!), and even enchantments. The only actual counter is having a literal swarm of dogs as chaff.
They might have changed it ignoring AT but i know for a fact generic armor, shields, and enchantments are still ignored due to the shitfest that happened last night while testing mods. Apparently they finally made it an actual damage type so something that adds Magic Resistance might be usable now.
The melee does more DPS than just about anything else in the game, even with the cooldown.

Correct! His phrasing of 'People are talking about it a lot, which shows it did its job of adding mystery.' implies that it was more than just him pulling it out of his ass, as well.

backporting that shit to 1.7.3 would make a lot of people especially the MP server owners jizz their pants, especially with how fast it is but that would be asking too much as how ancient it is.

HEY welcome back, always nice to see you post. Also I like how you still rock the DBC mod, and lol at The Lookout being in the middle of the city.

The Warden is that one kid at the playground who always changes the rules to be unbeatable. You've got enchanted Netherite? Nuh-huh, my punches bypass enchantments. You made a lava trap? Nuh-huh, I'm immune to fire. You're tunneling away? Nuh-huh, my sonic blast bypasses blocks.

Mojang purposefully made this thing overpowered and made the reward for beating it garbage so that the players, for once in their lives, would actually engage with the intended gameplay mechanic instead of farming it. And what did the players do? Farm it, just because they could, because Mojang still hasn't understood that Minecraft autism is an unstoppable force and nothing they can do will ever contain it.

I wish 1.12.2 had the same amount of backport love as 1.7.10... (:_(
Don't worry, it has its own dedicated group of tranny autists circlejerking in a discord server.
They're just less productive than the 1.7.10 ones.
Nuh-huh, my punches bypass enchantments.
Ironically it's not even that, it just does THAT FUCKING MUCH damage that enchantments don't do squat unless they're modded strength or a mod alters the core calculation.
What would a Minecraft server even be?
An autism singularity engine that would require ejection in about three weeks.
