A heated row has broken out over a move by Britain's largest bakery chain to launch a vegan sausage roll.

The pastry, which is filled with a meat substitute and encased in 96 pastry layers, is available in 950 Greggs stores across the country.

It was promised after 20,000 people signed a petition calling for the snack to be launched to accommodate plant-based diet eaters.

But the vegan sausage roll's launch has been greeted by a mixed reaction: Some consumers welcomed it, while others voiced their objections.

Cook and food poverty campaigner Jack Monroe declared she was "frantically googling to see what time my nearest opens tomorrow morning because I will be outside".

While TV writer Brydie Lee-Kennedy called herself "very pro the Greggs vegan sausage roll because anything that wrenches veganism back from the 'clean eating' wellness folk is a good thing".

One Twitter user wrote that finding vegan sausage rolls missing from a store in Corby had "ruined my morning".

Another said: "My son is allergic to dairy products which means I can't really go to Greggs when he's with me. Now I can. Thank you vegans."

TV presenter Piers Morgan led the charge of those outraged by the new roll.

"Nobody was waiting for a vegan bloody sausage, you PC-ravaged clowns," he wrote on Twitter.

Mr Morgan later complained at receiving "howling abuse from vegans", adding: "I get it, you're all hangry. I would be too if I only ate plants and gruel."

Another Twitter user said: "I really struggle to believe that 20,000 vegans are that desperate to eat in a Greggs."

"You don't paint a mustach (sic) on the Mona Lisa and you don't mess with the perfect sausage roll," one quipped.

Journalist Nooruddean Choudry suggested Greggs introduce a halal steak bake to "crank the fume levels right up to 11".

The bakery chain told concerned customers that "change is good" and that there would "always be a classic sausage roll".

It comes on the same day McDonald's launched its first vegetarian "Happy Meal", designed for children.

The new dish comes with a "veggie wrap", instead of the usual chicken or beef option.

It should be noted that Piers Morgan and Greggs share the same PR firm, so I'm thinking this is some serious faux outrage and South Park KKK gambiting here.

Zarah Sultana accuses Observer cartoon of ‘brownfacing’:

I've seen some longshots from these race grifters, but surely they're just taking the piss now?
Why should she expect mocking her surname to be off the table? You're telling me if there were an MP called "Jimmy Peanut" we wouldn't all be laughing at that?

All the same, these racial grievance merchants. They get equal treatment and it's not enough. They want better treatment. They want priveleged treatment. They want to be untouchable.

I agree that hierarchy is inevitable, but if someone or a particular lineage has maintained their position at the top for over a thousand years maybe they have a measure of control over what is happening?
The problem is, most of the aristos used to understand the limits of their power and the need to maintain the favour of the mob. They favoured stability, even at the expense of their own immediate gain, so they tended to tolerate the stabilising presence of the middle classes, as long as they were suitably aware of their position in the hierarchy. The problem is, there's always been a section of society, including aristos, who seek immediate power at the expense of stability. They've tended to be a minority (as radicals often are), but whenever they gain power, they seek to expand and perpetuate their power for its own sake. You can count Boris as part of this group. He has always sought power and elevation, believing himself to be a paragon of the old aristocratic way of life, but not truly understanding the responsibilities required of him in exchange for the privileges he sought.

It was people of that nature who kicked the majority of the hereditaries out of the Lords, in the correct belief that the hereditary peers were an obstacle to their pursuit of greater power. The neutering of the Upper Chamber, now packed with life peers, was the moment the Blairite plans went into overdrive.

English culture has a long, historic tension between paternalism and individualism, which generally found a level that was reasonably tolerable to all involved. Not ideal, probably far from ideal in a lot of ways, but tolerable. The power-hungry have overturned that arrangement, which has historically had a rather messy end.

Welp, this racist bigot's life is probably over now.
They want to be untouchable.
This can be redeemed.

Last night, I was wasting part of my life scrolling youtube shorts and a clip of Call the Midwife came up. It featured a very young pregnant Irish girl, Mary, who was groomed into prostitution when she came to London by a man called Zakir. A priest who worked with the poor and tried to help women escape from these men, tells Jenny, the midwife, that it's an ongoing problem in the East End. As I know the early seasons of Call the Midwife were based on a real life memoir, I looked it up and the Mary/Zakir story was part of the original memoir and is a real incident from the mid-late 50s. Zakir's uncle's cafe is used to lure girls in, and the front for a brothel. There is also a depiction of a girl dying when she's forced into a backstreet abortion when she becomes pregnant.

There is synopsis of the book here, with chapters 16-20 covering the Mary/Zakir encounters.

Jennifer Worth used pseudonyms for the books characters, but I'm pretty sure if she chose an Arabic name for the groomer-pimp, it wasn't because he was really an Englishman called John. It's actually pretty sickening, to have seen this early evidence of 'grooming' gangs having a clear foothold in London almost 80 years ago.

The book was published in 2002 and this episode made in 2012, so it's also interesting that it was published and adapted with the name Zakir used then, as I suspect that even a few years after the episode was made, he'd have been John or Mike.

My view on the lords has changed considerably since I was young. I now see them as a stabilising influence and I think the idea of the government removing them completely will be disastrous

The main issue with the Lords today is that the chamber is now rammed full of party apparatchiks (Labour, Tory, Lib Dem, Green) who cannot be trusted to stay in their lane if and when a more radical government is elected. That is not to say that every life peer is like this, but there are too many who in my opinion will attempt to turn the Lords into a blocking chamber instead of a revising one. Many of these people are also completely unremarkable with no particular insight into anything, which diminishes the ability of the chamber to scrutinise.

If Reform are serious about the business of government they will need to anticipate this and have a plan to deal with it, which includes handling the second-order consequences.

Didn't she dissolve the Australian parliament once in the 70s?
She didn't, her Governor-general did and it was a whole other kerfuffle, but bottom line is it was an Australian internal matter at the end of the day and kweenie had nothing to do with it.

The word you are looking for is stagnatory, they exist to stop things from happening/slow them down, it's why oldsters tend to be more fond of them since it goes with their nature, I am a big fan of things happening personally.

If aristocrats had no real power left they'd have been pushed out of the way by the new money by now, and we wouldn't have ended up with David Cameron and Boris Johnson as prime ministers in the last decade.
Old money playing politics doesn't matter to new money. New money holds all the power because it holds all the soft power you need to control the narrative. Facebook and Google will hire old money as ambassadors but they don't care who's prime minister or who the public think are in charge. They are willing to work with any one and manipulate democratic systems.

Unless they have a hostile leader like Trump has become, they can do almost anything they want and if old money tries to reign them in they will run smear campaigns against them. Our political systems are so full of back stabbers new money can sharpen the right knives and end careers in seconds.

Call the Midwife...
I wrote a post about Call the Midwife a little while back.

Sorry for the autism, but speaking of Enoch Powell, there's a corking episode of Call the Midwife (the missus watches it, leave me alone), an extremely gay but pleasant show with a 50s/60s British setting, with this episode set around his Rivers of Blood speech. The main arc being the community all coming together in support of the boat arrivals and absolutely sticking it to the knuckle dragging RACIST SCUM who don't want their jobs taken and peaceful, white British community dececrated.

The show is based in Tower Hamlets. If you've been you know.

As you'd probably guessed the show is basically just hilarious propaganda now.

The entire country is a powder keg right now. The boats are still coming and we're rolling out the red carpet for the young, fighting age men on them.

There's a palpable air of tension in the Norf FC town I live in. I see, frequently, people being hostile and snarky to browns and pakis. No actual violence, but hostile and pointed comments. I overhear a lot of conversations which, were they posted on social media, land the people holding them in jail.

I hear people talking in the most derogatory terms about Politicians and what people would do to them, had they the opportunity.

And in the midst of it all, MPs are fucking off on an extended summer break, over a month long, on our money.

It would be prudent of Two Tier batty boy Kier to tell MPs, sorry, but we can't let you do this, we stay in session and fix this but their public school wired brains see this as their birthright and their due and we can all go fuck ourselves while they go on holiday.

Niggel is being dangerously based, even calls out "antifa" and says people who just don't like 'em dindu nuffin wrong.

Nigel Farage has backed protesters demonstrating outside an asylum hotel in Epping and warned of “civil disobedience on a vast scale” if the UK fails to stop migrants arriving on small boats.
The Reform UK leader dismissed the violence that led to six arrests on Sunday as the actions of “some bad eggs” and said most protesters were “genuinely concerned families”.
He claimed the unrest was caused by clashes between the “usual far-right thugs” and far-left anti-fascist activists, known as Antifa, who typically cover their faces in black face coverings and scarves.

While some of the protesters wore face coverings, The Times has not been able to verify that they included members of Antifa.
Farage did not condone the violence that took place outside the Bell Hotel in Epping over the past ten days but said it should “serve as a stark warning to this government that the British people will not put up with this betrayal for the next four years”.

Sunday’s events were the latest in a string of protests prompted by the arrest of an Ethiopian asylum seeker on suspicion of sexual assault.
Hadush Gerberslasie Kebatu, 38, was charged with three counts of sexual assault, harassment and inciting a girl to engage in sexual activity.
Kebatu, who denies wrongdoing and was remanded in custody until a trial next month, entered the UK on a small boat eight days before the alleged incident.

Asked whether the scenes outside the Bell Hotel were understandable, Farage said: “I don’t think anybody in London even understands just how close we are to civil disobedience on a vast scale in this country.
“Of course, there were some bad eggs that turned up at Epping. There were the usual far-right thugs, but equally, what about Antifa? Why? Why are Antifa allowed to go to these demonstrations, to wear balaclavas, to not be identified, to do gestures, last night, of them shooting at members of the public. Why are they there?
“So it isn’t all far-right thuggery, as you might sometimes hear from our prime minister. But do I understand how people in Epping feel? You bet your life I do.”

He added: “Don’t underestimate the simmering anger and disgust that there is in this country that we are letting in every week, in fact, some days, many hundreds of undocumented young males, many of whom come from cultures in which women and young girls are not even treated as second-class citizens.
“So the answer is, yes, I do understand the genuine upset and anger, and I’ll bet you that most of the people outside that hotel at Epping weren’t far-right or far-left or anything like that. They were just genuinely concerned families.”
Downing Street said the scenes at Epping were “clearly unacceptable”. The prime minister’s official spokesman said: “Peaceful protest is a cornerstone of our democracy, but it’s clearly unacceptable to see police coming under attack as they ensure that peaceful protest is able to take place.
“And I think Essex police put out the statement making very clear: people who protest peacefully, lawfully and responsibly cause us and the wider public no concern. However, we can never and will never tolerate criminal violence, and I think the prime minister will obviously echo that.”
On Monday, a man appeared before court and denied a charge of violent disorder during the protest.
Eight police officers were injured following what started as a peaceful protest outside the Bell Hotel in Epping on Thursday evening.

Keith Silk, of Torrington Drive, Loughton, appeared before Southend magistrates’ court on Monday and entered a plea of not guilty to a charge of violent disorder. The 33-year-old is also charged with criminal damage, having allegedly shaken a sign belonging to the hotel, but he was not asked to enter a plea to this.
Judge Christopher Williams bailed Silk with conditions, until an appearance before Chelmsford crown court on August 18.
The judge said Silk must not visit Epping, must not attend any protest or demonstration in the UK and would have a curfew monitored by an electronic tag to be at his home address from 7pm to 7am each day.
In Sunday’s protest more than 100 demonstrators assembled outside the hotel, some of them chanting “save our kids”.
Essex police said six people were arrested that evening and remained in custody, including a 17-year-old male arrested on suspicion of causing criminal damage to a police car.
Four people were arrested on Sunday for alleged offences during Thursday’s protest, police said.
He's really stealing tommeh's thunder here, hating on migger hotels being normalized is a great step.

It'll make no difference, even if Parliament is recalled this summer - perhaps recalling it and Starmer continuing to talk out of his sphincter will only inflame things.

One of the big tests will come a week tomorrow when the case against proscribing Palestine Action goes before the Courts:

Archive: https://archive.ph/wip/v1blh

If the original judgment is overturned, it's a bad loss for Starmer, but if the judgement stays as is then I can see them getting very angry and then the powder keg could go off big time.

They, more than anybody else IMO, have the potential to do damage and they don't care who gets hurt or killed, even if it's their own side of the political wars, because they believe that they are right and anybody who dares oppose them is wrong. That Martyr-like mentality is dangerous and the Police should be focusing on the angry and potentially very violent Far Left rather than on some chap from the Home Counties who misgendered a duck at the local village pond.

Something will happen - there is a big 'unknown unknown' event that will happen soon, perhaps more than one and varying in terms of how many people are affected.

Just keep safe and pray we get through this without war breaking out on the streets.

I wondered and my question answered within opening the archive.
The tragedy of it is she and her mother requested the paki lad to be arrested, to be taken away because of the threat he posed to her and he even threatened her life if she didn't return home. The police let her down and now her mother is without a child and her child is without a mother.

I have no love for pakis, but allowing a single mother, who had asked for help, to die under our watch because our police are too fucking pussified to step in and deport the paki cunt, shows how far our country has fallen.
