DC Comics Multimedia General - A crisis of infinite fuck ups

Although I will never grasp why. Injustice had a mediocre plot - it only did well due to solid gameplay mechanics & the novelty of an "evil Justice League" aesthetic. Of all the DC storylines for the DCEU to build up to/be the DCEU's Thanos, Injustice certainly wasn't the one to pic
because when Injustice came out the entire internet was going "this is what the justice league movie should be" i know, because i remember and was constantly getting ratioed for being like "no it shouldn't" then BvS set it up, and at least it was obviously the anti life equation so I was like okay I can take them doing some sort of final crisis/Injustice mashup and the whole internet in those few years had done a 180 and went theyre doing an Injustice thing? Noooooo!

which, I get people not wanting that, again I didnt at the time really either but it was seriously everywhere people saying Injustice should be the JL movie. I think it was just because it was the first major JL thing since the show, the animated movies were and are big but were still more niche at that point. And wbs reactionary ass probably saw the Injustice hype and suggested it when they were in the planning stages.

Tom Taylor is a little freak, and WB-DC is like if a corporation got hit in the head with a frying pan.

Injustice happened because someone needed a lore excuse for why Harley can beat up the Flash in Mortal Kombat. Just pure dudebro bait that reshaped public perception of the characters more than anything since Superfriends.

From Diana commiting gendercide,
Batman being the only guy doing anything about it, Damian murdering Dick, and Superman and Darkseid being treated like ideological equals.

It def has fans, it ran for way longer than any tie-in comic deserves to. Suck around like a roach infestation. You shouldn't be seeing Year Five on a book whose origin is "What if you punched the Joker so hard he died."

I fucking HATE Jor-El and Lara sending Clark to be a tyrant. Completely unnecessary to the plot, the whole movie I kept expecting them to correct that. That Kryptonian language is very complex or something, but not they just left that as his origin.
I do hate this plot point. I get that it's in service of making Clark appreciate his human parents more but I feel like the "evil parents" plot has been done way too often. Turning the Kryptonians into Viltrumites kills the viewer's investment in figuring out the mystery behind Krypton's destruction, and it makes Zod feel less special as a villain, since all Kryptonians apparently had the same thirst for conquest.
He made a TikTok comparing himself to David Corenswet’s Clark Kent, and how he totally looks like him, you guys! He’s literally Superman!
That's really funny because David Corenswet is half-Jewish, Hasan's most maligned ethnic group circa October 7th 2023. Hasan has spent the last two years posting as much coded anti-Jew content as possible, and now he's comparing himself to a filthy genocider? For shame.

The producers probably didn't put that much thought into it.
I found myself thinking this so many times throughout the film. I was profoundly disappointed. It wasn't as bad as MoS/BvS but it wasn't good, either. I'm hoping the next one is better, and more thought is put into all those little "quirky" creative decisions.

Oh, so we’re doing this? If I'm, like, 11% Sephardic on 23andMe, I'm automatically supposed to be a spokesperson for the IDF?

I mean AOC did one Ancestry.com ad, found out her great-great-uncle maybe lit a menorah once, and suddenly it's her sacred duty to Venmo the Iron Dome $500 mil every quarter. What is even your point?

It came out in the aftermath of the Dark Knight hype where gritty and realistic DC Comics was seen as the direction DC should head. People loved the Dark Knight for its dark tone and realism, and that was what Injustice, New 52 and the DC films were bringing.

It also came during the period of "Batman can defeat anyone with prep-time." The entire narrative is a Batman wankfest with him being the ultra hero who will take down all the meta-humans because he is so cool.

You missed the point. I was joking about Hasan Piker (Jew-hating CPS-loving Arab currently embroiled in an internet feud with Israeli jews Ethan and Hila Klein for the glory of Palestine) comparing himself to a half-Jewish man.

I know my original post is a week or two old at this point but I posted about Hasan hyping the film up as some big Twitter tier #FreePalestine middle finger to Israel when it really wasn't.

All of the Twitter leftists gloating about how the film is one big "FUCK THE JEWS ZIONAZIS #FREEPALESTINE" are delusional. Superman has done the "stop the invasion/war" plot a billion times before, and it's almost always about Eastern Europe, which is where Boravia and Jarhanpur are located.
The joke is Hasan gloating over the film supposedly sticking it to the Jews, then comparing himself to the half-Jewish main actor.

I don't know where you got the idea that my post was insinuating that Corenswet was secretly a pro-Israel IDF simp or that he needed to come out and salute the glory of Israel or whatever, again, the joke is "Hasan Piker (jew hater) compared himself to a Jew, that is funny".

Can one of Southerners suddenly appearing in this thread tell me what the accent was that Ma and Pa Kent had? I could hardly follow what they were saying at some points.

We'll set aside the question for now of why Clark doesn't have the accent of the people who raised him from a baby.
It's actually not Southern, per se - it's more an Appalachian accent by way of WV/KY. Think mountain hicks, not field rednecks.
I'm from that neck of the woods, myself, and my extended family sounds JUST like that.

Thanks. I wonder why Gunn went with that? If he left it some less strong generic American accent it wouldn't have been noticeable. If he'd asked them to do Kansas accents it would have been true to the story.

And it still threw me that he didn't share the accent of the people who raised him and the place he grew up. I'd get losing it a little bit but this is full 'ashamed-of-my-background' level of change which doesn't suit.

Jimmy Olson is allegedly getting his own series focused around covering crime in Metropolis and is supposed to be an anthology for DC villains.
I say allegedly because the main source is Wall Street Journal and I'm not paying for that shit.
"Superman’s Man-Sluts of Tomorrow"? Is the premise just Jimmy getting passed around by DC rogues? Better take one for the multiverse, Jimmy.

Anyway damn we had it good with Bruce Timm's animated series.
I loved those as a kid and saw Batman Beyond: Return of the Joker recently (legally free on YouTube if you're interested) and it was great. To the point I think I'm gonna go back and check some of those out, mainly Justice League.
DCAU ended with JLU
I also watched Batman: Under the Red Hood and The Death and Return of Superman. The former was great, the later okay, but I know it was two movies that probably should've been a trilogy. Anything else worth watching for movies?

And the 09 WW film wasn't terrible.
Chris Pine was holding that movie together, so naturally, they bring him back for the sequel by body-snatching some rando like it’s Quantum Leap. Why couldn’t Diana just wish him back normally?

I like Doctor Poison but the wardrobe is doing a lot. She has no agency, no arc, etc. If the old screenwriting rule is “your story is only as good as its villain" it kind of explains why Wondy is playing second fiddle to Batman and Superman.

With Gunn history of DC movies and TV shows being canceled or not happening. I doubt it. He and DC would be intellectually retarded if they didn’t cash in on Mister's terrific new popularity right away. When was the last time a black superhero never brought up race or being black? The original blade movies?
