See, this is why I love KF! We can all watch the same thing, interpret it differently, and exchange our views and not get our pants in a twist if someone has a different vision. No harm, no foul to disagree here.

I see Salah's emotional distance as more of a cultural and Islamic thing. Arab boys/men are raised in almost complete isolation from any female that is not a relative. Salah simply does not know how and is not allowed to show romantic/erotic love in public. Sex and romance goes on behind closed doors.
There is no such thing as dating in Arab culture. Thus, Salah is the awkward and uneducated adult male that we see. If you are trying to understand Salah through Western eyes, you are doing it wrong.

They are both basically social outcasts, and in each other they have found a kindred spirit. Is it a grand romance? Nah. It is like many other pair bonds. It is a partnership of convenience for both of them.

Notice she didn't say anything about the mother, the baby or the other people who would have theoretically been at this infant meet-and-greet. She just posted a photo of the drink and implied she drank it.

Not only were no other humans featured (consistent with her previous posts of Syrian foods prepared by others), this is the kind of content people could actually enjoy and learn from, were it posted by an actual "foodie." She has no palate nor intellectual curiosity so she always falls flat on her face here even when opportunity knocks.

The tea is called ainar. The spices are thought to be healing for the postpartum mom, but it's also served as a dessert for visiting well-wishers to celebrate a safe delivery. It's often made with anise and caraway, so it's got a pretty distinct flavor profile. How hard would it have been for her to elaborate a little?

Fat Amy's Egyptian Awlie was a lot more affectionate toward his brain-dead behemoth (and she said he helped her bathe...ew-uh). Of course, she slept in an electric ejector-seat recliner while he shared a bed with their young son....but we won't go there.

I concur that the "agree to disagree" mindset is part of what makes this thread such a draw. It can be absolutely nasty elsewhere on this site. That being said, when I was a newfag and was just learning the ropes, there was a mod who was absolutely brutal to me and a few others on this thread. Null eventually banned them.
