UK British News Megathread - aka CWCissey's news thread

https://news.sky.com/story/row-over-new-greggs-vegan-sausage-rolls-heats-up-11597679

A heated row has broken out over a move by Britain's largest bakery chain to launch a vegan sausage roll.

The pastry, which is filled with a meat substitute and encased in 96 pastry layers, is available in 950 Greggs stores across the country.

It was promised after 20,000 people signed a petition calling for the snack to be launched to accommodate plant-based diet eaters.

But the vegan sausage roll's launch has been greeted by a mixed reaction: Some consumers welcomed it, while others voiced their objections.

Cook and food poverty campaigner Jack Monroe declared she was "frantically googling to see what time my nearest opens tomorrow morning because I will be outside".

While TV writer Brydie Lee-Kennedy called herself "very pro the Greggs vegan sausage roll because anything that wrenches veganism back from the 'clean eating' wellness folk is a good thing".

One Twitter user wrote that finding vegan sausage rolls missing from a store in Corby had "ruined my morning".

Another said: "My son is allergic to dairy products which means I can't really go to Greggs when he's with me. Now I can. Thank you vegans."

TV presenter Piers Morgan led the charge of those outraged by the new roll.

"Nobody was waiting for a vegan bloody sausage, you PC-ravaged clowns," he wrote on Twitter.

Mr Morgan later complained at receiving "howling abuse from vegans", adding: "I get it, you're all hangry. I would be too if I only ate plants and gruel."

Another Twitter user said: "I really struggle to believe that 20,000 vegans are that desperate to eat in a Greggs."

"You don't paint a mustach (sic) on the Mona Lisa and you don't mess with the perfect sausage roll," one quipped.

Journalist Nooruddean Choudry suggested Greggs introduce a halal steak bake to "crank the fume levels right up to 11".

The bakery chain told concerned customers that "change is good" and that there would "always be a classic sausage roll".

It comes on the same day McDonald's launched its first vegetarian "Happy Meal", designed for children.

The new dish comes with a "veggie wrap", instead of the usual chicken or beef option.

It should be noted that Piers Morgan and Greggs share the same PR firm, so I'm thinking this is some serious faux outrage and South Park KKK gambiting here.

I don't care about the empire.
I don't care about 'our nation'
I care about removing kebab.

The empire is gone. It is never coming back. We're facing an immediate threat to our survival and you're telling us to play by rules no one else will play by. It's weakness in a time when we're being invaded by enemies using our kids as flesh lights. You want to larp as the red coats policing the world when I want Birmingham to be English territory again. We can worry about how many nukes we drop on Pakistan when every single English girl can sleep soundly in her bed at night instead of being trafficked around the country to be fucked and tortured by foreign invaders.

Wake up. Stop larping. Get in the real world before the real world shouts Allah Ackbar and slits your throat.
Guess the Irish, Scottish and Welsh girls can get fucked then. Also good to know that sex trafficking is only a bad thing when browns are doing it in your view.

I'm guessing you're either not British descent, or you're 10 years old because Britain has historically, for hundreds of years, played by the rules no-one played by and that's how we won the world.
We didn't "win" anything. Winners don't get ethnically replaced by the people they were supposed to rule.
You say you want to live in the real world while larping about removing pakis. Wake up. That isn't happening, no matter how much you want it to happen.
Then it's over and you should keep sucking Paki cock. Maybe they will keep you around as a twink.

Corrupt police will face sanctioned? What are the corrupt police doing to help the invasion and why haven't they been fired for it already?

GB news sent a reported to Paris to document the boats. Gave his reports to the police and GB news is reporting they acted on them the same day.

Daily mail is reporting there's plans to protest the Canary Wharf hotel as well.

Both @Whoopsie Daisy and @Kofi Drinka have fair points - we need to reclaim what is ours, but we cannot think ever that it is too late to bring back the good times and the culture and values of old.

Modern culture is fake and therefore it is not sustainable - it's akin to making a bridge out of plastic because 'it's the current good thing to do'... eventually it will break and the demands for better and something more sustainable and long-lasting will drown out the 'progress our way or else' morons.

Nobody asked for the liberal shit-hole ideology of the past 30+ years and we are owed serious reparations by those who thought that degenerate faggotry and Asian rapists was a 'cool idea bro'.

The enemy plays by dishonour because it is the only way it can 'win' - there's a quote in an episode of Death In paradise where one of the suspects says 'as my Dad always said 'win and if you can't win, cheat''.

We are at a critical juncture - in the UK we are run by the most calamitous Government in history who believe in screwing over and hurting the people who elected them, yet culturally and internationally the trend towards conservatism and 'Right Wing' leadership post Trump's re-election as POTUS cannot be contained and something will have to give on these shores very soon.

Both Left and Right have had enough and the tinder box is more than ready to be lit.

I've got a plan and put it in place. What are you doing for your plan of deporting everyone, other that seething like the mad 12 year old that you are? Have you joined government? Pushed for change? Deported pakis?

Once we've reclaimed everything we can decide on how we govern it. There is no reason to pretend it's the 1800s or 1900s when no one else will. We win or we go extinct and after visiting Birmingham last week I have no pity or mercy for the people who did that to a once beautiful city. Life is not a larp or a game where silly rules matter. We survive or we don't and clinging to the Empire to make yourself feel better is pathetic.

I'm proud of my blood and my people. Not because of the Empire or because of the wars we fought. I'm proud to be what I am because it's what I am. You can read Tolkien and see how great our people are, when he puts a fantasy name to our various groups and ethnic differences but still us. That's how great our blood is and I don't need to cope about an empire. The Hobbits are clearly English people. They act English, they talk English and they live as the English do. They don't need an empire to be great. They just need to be hobbits. The Welsh don't need an empire, they just need a sheep. The Scottish.. they need a wash but they're alright once they've had a whiskey and great in their own way too. We don't need to own the world or act like Americans and try to police it. We need to look after our own and let the vermin of the world get on with murdering each other while we sip our cider and turn pink on Blackpool beach. I don't care how rapey Indians, Pakis or Jews are if they're doing it to each other on the other side of the planet. We have to fix our own problems and ourselves.

>Owned 2/3rd of the planet
The empire is long gone and we don't even own our capital city any more. It's a larp. If you don't own any of your major cities and all your territory is being eroded by an invading force your empire talk is worthless. We can't even secure our beaches from dingies from France.

I dont think Charles cares much about past or current UK. I think he wants or foresees something else.
I don't think he wants or foresees anything in the same way that Biden did in America. He looks and acts like he belongs in a care home not on a throne. The only thing he wants is a cure for dementia and a young boy penis blood transfusion. He's the most limp wristed faggot that we've had as a 'king' for a long time. There were children that were better kings than he is. The entire point of a democratic monarchy is that the monarch should vet every single thing parliament does, that politicians should be in fear of the monarch declaring them as treasonous and have them hung for it, that the monarch is there as an 'impartial' judge, someone who will make sure that the actions of politicians are beneficial to the entire country not just a single political party or person. He has royally fucked that up. In any other time from throughout history there would be a revolution going on right now and his head would be on the chopping block alongside the treasonous bastards in parliament he has allowed to ruin this country. He does not vet parliament to make sure it is beneficial to the country (and by extent royal family) and the only time politicians have been scared recently is when the provos chucked bombs at them, even that was nothing to what they should feel, they should be scared that one wrong move will result in the entire country taking up arms. I mean we've seen how these people act, political debates look like a bunch of fucking school kids about to have a scrap, not people afraid of the consequences for their behaviour. But we've moved past such violence, violence is wrong and bad, give up the guns that 'saved' you from exclusively german speaking fascism, let the people destroy your country, let the foreigner rape your wife because violence is bad. Say what you will about Liz, say what you will about the scam we call 'democracy', but is it really a coincidence that the number of migrant hotels and outright anti white racism in parliament started after she died?

However, we can never and will never tolerate criminal violence, and I think the prime minister will obviously echo that.”
Remember when a group of armed immigrants threatened to kill a reporter and crew who were broadcasting live from last year's riots and nothing happened to any of them? So what's that about not tolerating criminal violence?
must not attend any protest or demonstration in the UK
And what about that whole 'protest is a cornerstone of democracy' thing? An Englishman who caused at most a couple hundred pounds of damage is not able to partake in our democracy but literal children from foreign countries are? And we're expected to believe that this is an actual 'democracy'? The amount of damage he caused is a fraction of what even a single one of those migrants would use in tax payer money let alone the entire hotel's worth. Yet no that damage is bad and wrong and really costly.

During lockdown, I think it's what a lot of people started wanting - a return to simpler times.
Lol. If the simpler times were snitching on your neighbours and blindly following the government then sure. I think lockdown exposed just how compliant and willing the majority of Brits are. If I'm being optimistic, the fact it was all a deception has led directly to the unrest we see now as the last thread of trust in the government was severed right then. It also meant the government has decided to go gloves off as well, believing that the population has become compliant.

I think the post about it being an extremely slow burn like coal is correct, I'm noticing more people are comfortable with being racist now and starting to think for themselves. Once that starts it can't really be stopped. I was outside my hotel one evening chatting to a guy from up North and as soon as I power levelled in front of him, he immediately unloaded on me. It really feels like the average person is coming around now.

Speaking of, the guy outside the hotel happened to be in the pub next to where Jo Cox was murdered. Fascinating listening to a first hand account of what happened, allegedly the guy who murdered her did it because she was a paki lover and wouldn't listen to the guy who murdered her about what he felt was happening to his community.

And what about that whole 'protest is a cornerstone of democracy' thing?
The right to protest was effectively abolished in the Police, Crime and Sentencing Bill.

Not really what I meant, I mean that they started to hanker for the old days before draconianism and the joy being sucked out of life.

I remember that the 80s-2010s weren't anywhere near as bad as life is today - despite Thatcher and Blair, we survived (somehow!) For others, the 1950s-2010s were relatively peaceful times when the Government were more on our side than completely opposed to us.

As you say, people have now had enough - we weren't asked about if we wanted our country to be shat upon or not.

If you're interested in protest laws, keep an eye on the news next Wednesday - if Palestine Action lose their appeal then it will kick off.

That will certainly be interesting - potential power struggle between the courts and government could start coming up big time.

I suspect they won't be allowed to appeal as it would mean the courts can overstep the Home Office in matters of national security which everyone would probably agree would be too far.

If the appeal is denied I'm not sure what the next step will be, they could just keep arresting them but with the courts and prisons overflowing already it isn't sustainable. They risk having to lock up everyone on the left and everyone on the right at the same time.

My bet is £10 to charity they will not allow the appeal but I'm equally interested to see what happens with either outcome.

What have that group done to be labeled a terrorist group? Have I missed them destroying stuff or is this an over reaction to the plane graffiti?
I believe the claim is that they have direct ties to hamas and have threatened direct action beyond the graffiti. The actual reason is that they embarrassed the state.

@teriyakiburns has the right of it, when the ban should happened was around a year ago when they took a sledgehammer to multiple police officers. Something that had it been "muh far-right" who did so would have resulted in the news screaming about it for the next decade.

A police officer was taken to hospital after being hit with a sledgehammer while responding to reports of criminal damage.
A vehicle was used to ram the entrance of the Bristol HQ of defence technology firm Elbit Systems on Bolingbroke Way in Patchway, on the outskirts of Bristol, shortly before 04:00 BST.
Employees and police officers who intervened were assaulted, Avon and Somerset Constabulary said, and six people were arrested.
Sledgehammers, axes, whips and other homemade weapons were seized, police added.

During the incident, two officers were assaulted with a sledgehammer, police said.
One of the officers was taken to hospital with injuries to her back and has since been discharged, while the other officer received medical treatment at the scene after being struck on the back of his legs.
An employee of the business was also treated by paramedics for an injury to their head.
Police said six people aged 20-30 years old were arrested on suspicion of a range of offences including Section 18 wounding with intent, aggravated burglary, burglary and criminal damage.

Avon and Somerset Police said enquiries were continuing

Videos shared to social media by campaign group Palestine Action showed people using tools to cut into the warehouse, damaging equipment inside the building and spraying red paint on the premises.
The direct action group says it aims to disrupt arms sales to Israel, and claims Elbit Systems UK sells equipment to the state's army.
Elbit Systems UK Limited has previously said in court it does not supply Israel with arms.
Spt Deepak Kenth said officers remained at the scene of the incident, examining CCTV, speaking to witnesses and examining the vehicle used.

"These are not protests, these are criminal offences being committed - very serious criminal offences," he said.
He confirmed officers were looking to make further arrests "in the coming hours and days", and said anyone who carried out similar offences should "expect to be dealt with robustly".
Spt Kenth described the actions of those who injured officers as "disgraceful".
"Police officers are mums, dads, uncles, aunties, brothers and sisters, like anyone else. They wear the uniform to protect the public.
"They come to work and they do not expect to be assaulted with weapons and that's why we will take the strongest possible action that is required on behalf of the public as well as my colleagues," he added.

A spokesperson for Elbit Systems UK Limited confirmed a security guard had been injured and said vehicle training equipment manufactured for the British armed forces had been targeted.
They said: "We provide critical support and advanced technology to the British armed forces from our Horizon site.
"Any claims that this facility supplies the Israeli military or Israeli Ministry of Defence are categorically false."
"We will work with the authorities to ensure those responsible are held accountable and face the full force of the law," they added.
The "graffiti" was hundreds of thousands if not millions of damage to military vehicles in the UK where they also spray painted them to be able to claim to idiots that they were being charged for light vandalism as opposed to the sort of shit that that they done in Palestine or Israel would have resulted in a bullet to the skull.

Or to phrase it differently they sabotaged military vehicles, assaulted law enforcement with unquestionably lethal weapons, admitted to it on their social media and are now trying to cry oppression because they are being treated like terrorists. Which you have helpfully demonstrated is working.

I wasn't sure if they were the warehouse invaders. I can see why they would be labeled a terrorist group now. The protest stuff isn't a big deal but they're messing with military supplies while waving a foreign flag so it makes sense.

If National Action can be proscribed, why not Trust-funders for Terrorists?

In reality neither should be proscribed, but the people vandalising defence infrastructure on behalf of hamas should have been rounded up, given a fair trial for treason then hanged by the neck until dead.

Displaying of their heads on pikes to be at the discretion of the judge.

This is true, but the woman was living here, and the state (foolishly) agreed to admit her to the UK, therefore it had a responsibility to protect her from her ape husband. Women in Islamic marriages are victims.
I think it's awful what happened to her, but most of the muslim women I've met buy into Islam and have a sense of superiority about it. I've met like one actual ex-muslim ever, even the ones that don't veil still identify with islam.
Old money playing politics doesn't matter to new money. New money holds all the power because it holds all the soft power you need to control the narrative. Facebook and Google will hire old money as ambassadors but they don't care who's prime minister or who the public think are in charge. They are willing to work with any one and manipulate democratic systems.

Unless they have a hostile leader like Trump has become, they can do almost anything they want and if old money tries to reign them in they will run smear campaigns against them. Our political systems are so full of back stabbers new money can sharpen the right knives and end careers in seconds.
I don't agree with this because I think people underestimate how many old money people there are and overestimate who new money is and why. It's like how I originally had to spend a lot of time itt arguing with people that Boris was old money and not new money, and I think a lot of people still think he is new money bloke that you can have a pint with and that's why he's still so popular and he convinced people Brexit actually meant what it said. People think Rupert Murdoch is new money, but actually his mother's family are the Forths of Ludlow (they own Ludlow castle) and part of the governments of Hong Kong and the West Indies, and his father was middle class but got a aristocrat patron during WW2 and that's how they met. So he's part of the family too but people think he is new money. They all have like eight surnames and they use them to make it less obvious - Boris Johnson is Alexander Boris de Pfeffel Johnson. Who controls the narrative more than Rupert Murdoch and soon his son?
eta: the fact that murdoch-owned media spends so much time giving space to Nigel should make people very suspicious of him
What have that group done to be labeled a terrorist group? Have I missed them destroying stuff or is this an over reaction to the plane graffiti?
Palestine Action actually started in the US and is being bankrolled by the heir to Cox Industries from there, which is the conglomerate that owns a lot of well-known american companies like autotrader. So whatever actions they did in the US before are probably being factored in to their threat potential. Also the US government hates them too probably and might be encouraging it, but obviously breaking into a defense base is criminal in its own right.
eta: apparently they've repeatedly targeted Elbit Systems in the US, which is the main supplier of drones to Israel, and also 'land-based equipment'. I'm not sure if that means the equipment for the iron dome or tanks or both.

Are you joking? No one would confuse Boris Johnson for new money or Rupert Murdoch.

No one thinks New money are the type of people you can have a pint with. New money have been seen as a bunch of wankers and back stabbers since the yuppies stereotype. New money is yuppies or it's tech bros like Zuckerberg. Who wants to have a pint with American psycho or a man with the personality of a toaster? They're the people you do cocaine with, not drink pints. New money is mostly American or international classes, there's not a lot of it in the UK but it has a huge impact on us because we've forfeit out culture to the USA.

Boris isn't popular any more, he wasn't very well liked once he got into power. People like the bumbling school boy act he put on for interviews and Have I got news for you and he let that slide. Everyone I've spoke to about it thinks he's a tosser like all the other conservatives are. If they hold a stronger opinion it's that he played the fool for popularity and is a lying tosser who pretended to be retarded until it got him what he needed from it,
