Can't comment on France but "racism" isn't really a concern anymore. When even left-wing politicians are beginning to get on the "mass migration is doing damage to the country's cohesion" they're starting to see where the wind is blowing. I think some places will take longer than others (Germany) but the overall trajectory of the West is anti-immigrant at
minimum.

You have to remember that with the UK deal it also looked one sided but there were reciprocal exclusions on tariffs up to a certain tonnage of goods. 40k tons of rice might make it into the USA tariff-free and vice versa until both sides start paying. The deals are a lot fairer than presented. I think the reason why Trump has defaulted to a higher tariff is because the Japs export a lot of electronics into the US so it'd defeat the whole point of Trump's attempts to build an electronics manufacturing industry in the USA if companies just move to a cheaper Chinese neighbour.
