General Smartphone Discussion Thread - What phones to recommend and which ones to avoid?

Would not touch a pixel 9 even if you wanted it for normie use and AI features, of which many rely on cloud to do because the phone's hardware specs were so limited. A theoretical Pixel10 model is expected to have disproportionaitely better hardware, all of which is for the purposes of spying on you and everything you do better but better harware is still better especially if paying near full price.
How powerful does the hardware really need to be to run one app at a time for messaging, emails, banking, etc.? If I wanted to play games I would use my PC. I can't think of a reason to ever use AI features on anything. I'm only considering upgrading because I've been inconvenienced by Apple's shitty software lifespan.

The OnePlus 13R is a solid choice.
I had a brief look at this. It's about $200 more (locally) than a 9a 256GB.

They all have enough power for that but better hardware usually means better longevity (in theory).

It's more of a 'nice to have' than 'need'. Depends on your priorities...everyone is different. I like my devices to be blazing fast even if I don't use that capacity 100% of the time.

If top of the range hardware is not your priority, I'd suggest the moto g power 2025.

The so-called "private" key I bought was just found in a massive leak of over 500 keyboxes. Only a matter of time before it stops working. Fucking scammers...

I was expecting to get at least 11 months out of this keybox. Now I have no idea when it'll stop working.

For those in the thread considering oneplus products, I wouldn't recommend getting one. Their quality (software and hardware wise) has gone downhill over the years, not to mention it aggressively optimizes background app's to the point where if you were waiting for a text while you're in another app, good fucking luck. There's a setting to disable that as well, but frankly navigating the settings is another thing entirely; not to mention they constantly send advertisements for future/upcoming products via the phone notification feature.

Recommend just going back to dumb phones.

You're not wrong..OOS has been shit lately. The laggy app switcher especially is particularly annoying. With that said though, I would still recommend OnePlus: as long as you stay away from their locked-down carrier-branded models.

Problem is you either have to deal with stock OOS quirks and root alternatives or you can install LOS but have to do some extra dicking around to get wallet to work. But honestly not having wallet work isn't a total dealbreaker.

I've heard complaints about and experienced problems with their aggressive battery saving bullshit; it's a bit of a hassle but you can disable it; you have to do it for every app that you use though which is kinda annoying. I fixed the notification issues with 'autonotification' app.

Is it just me or is the default keyboard really really shitty? When I switched to a flip phone I had to go back to Gboard as SwiftKey didn't work on the external screen, but lately it seems to be outright horrible so I switched back to SwiftKey

Now I have to train it to recognize my slurs all over again
