General Discussion for Virtual Youtubers / Vtubers / Chuubas - it's okay to be a simp for 2D, just don't thirstpost.

What a fucking mess. There's no way this guy did the smart thing and ran this shit by a lawyer or anything, this statement could be boiled down to "I am fucking idiot, please ravage my asshole in court."

This guy couldn't even be evil in the normal smart Big Business way, he fucked up the minute he allowed his talent to keep their full character and IP rights, giving them all the leverage in the world against him. The dam was going to burst eventually, it honestly makes me wonder why their bigger talents even bothered sticking around for so long. It just so happened that he managed to break the wall down himself by stealing half a million dollars from a charity fundraiser ran by his company's biggest talent, (whose personality kind of revolves around being immunocompromised). Well fucking done, Justin.

It doesn't matter if their NDAs are legally binding or not, this fucking guy is going to be eating out of a shoe under a bridge after the courts are done with him. He ran his company like a fucking Discord server, him, Mowtendoo, and everyone else involved in the mismanagement of this shitshow deserve everything they get.

EDIT: People are misconstruing what I mean by the IP thing. It's an objectively morally good thing that he let the Vtubers keep their characters. My point is that if Justin wants to run his company like an evil money-grubbing bastard, he's a dumbass for giving them control of their characters, which basically means they're able to leave and take their audiences/channels/etc with them without having to start over after a graduation.

Hololive and other idol companies have their talent on a leash by holding control of their IPs/likenesses/etc, which allows them to pull the underhanded shit that enables them to profit.

its Neil Breen
do you expect he'd latch on anything smart.

infact letting them the ability to kep their full character and IP rights is the most commendable thing they did.
Holding on to the character and IP rights would've just delayed the inevitable. The underlying money issues were always going to be there because the corporate leadership wasn't good. A financial smoke and mirrors show usually can't last forever and its VShojo was entering into that stage of its existence.

I can get why they went with the talents owning their own characters. It tends to be a very tempting thing with indies who dont want to change. But there is a difference between something like Phase Invaders (Clio Aite, Jelly Hoshiumi, Sleepy, MariMari_EN, etc.) Who, if they graduate, have to give up their character (assuming that is how the contract is) and Vshojo where they sign on to be part of the group (Kson, Zentreya, Ironmouse being indie prior) which, if they can actually leverage some advantages of staying, could be very profitable. But that is provided that there isnt corruption or mismanagement.
Invaders keep their characters (I don't know about the new models paid by the company though).

>Melody has unironic unicorns
She’s a whore, and I don’t mean that offensively, she is my favorite in Vshojo, and she is a nice lady, I just hate the term “Sex Worker”, that being said, even if you fall in love with a whore, you can’t honestly expect her to be faithful right? Like I get being parasocial, and forming an attachment to the fantasy/idea of the person, but in Mel’s case, I assumed that was part of the appeal for people that Oshi’d her, that she was a whore, and that they were into that (to be clear she isn’t my Oshi, I just think she is fun)

I'm trying to understand it. Was it him being guilt ridden about misappropriating funds? Or is it possible someone under him actually fucked things over and he had no idea it was this bad? It CAN'T be that because this went on for years.
I mean to me it reads like something he conciously did, if it was the fault of a rouge accountant i feel like he was stupid enough to out it on the statement.

Stupid enough to steal, but not smart enough to lie about it. Just doesn't make sense.
How the fuck did this guy manage to convince a ton of big talents to join up with him for years and not pay them?
I have no business sense or understanding for it.

I think one too many people knew about all of it for it to be an issue of incompetence, it seems way more likely to me that him and a few other higher-ups in the company embezzled all the money.
