Funnily enough I checked on him just the other day because I knew he was getting up there in years. He was an incredibly funny man, finding his music in my youth was a real delight.

My personal favorite:

That song is both funny in the darkest way and unironically one of the hardest songs ever written. Lehrer was firing on all cylinders when he wrote that.

I just heard the news about Tom Lehrer. RIP to a real one. I'm glad he lived as long as he did and got to see something of a resurgence. I'm also very glad he outlived Henry Kissinger.

Even for the songs where the reason for the satire are long forgotten (like Poisoning Pigeons in the Park - cyanide soaked peanuts and strychnine are how the US government used to control pigeon populations in their parks), the songs still stand on their own after 75 years. That's pretty amazing for comedy music.

Of all embarrassments I didnt realize Kissinger was finally dead! November of 2023 no less, you just made my day with this late information I just learned!

Twelve years ago I walked into a pet shelter just looking to browse. In the kitty room a bandaged, shaved, lousy looking cat pawed my leg and cried.

"That one loves you!' the worker said.

I had to take her. She was deformed, injured, sick. Bleeding UTI for months. Special diet. Pumpkin pie filling mixed with her food.

But it was worth it. She grew and healed. Became healthy and strong. She was the sweetest, friendliest kitty I ever knew.

Today we had to put her down. Mouth cancer. Our joy just wasn't worth her pain anymore.
