I don't think the six dollars would matter to Cody after that whole thing about him getting in trouble because he didn't want to go home. Just a safe environment to go to everyday will probably mean the world to this kid. As any kid, he loves his family (an unfortunate thing for abuse cases) but it must be draining for that kid to use his coping skills so much only for people around him to be like "it's just a prank, bro." Nobody should have to use their coping skills that much.
I don't know if it's just Maryland's CPS (and Cody's therapist) sucking though, because where I am, just any slight mention of mental or physical abuse to a therapist leads to the police right at the door for inspection within the same hour.
