Also Jim and Jade could have done something clever like changing his name or getting a death certificate outside Minnesota to give Jade lag time between when it happens and when it is announced publicly to conduct a funeral etc.

You can't get a death certificate outside of where you died/declared dead. Could he have died in another state? Absolutely. But, for example, if someone dies in state A and is buried in state B, State A would still be the state that gives the death certificate.

The death certificate might come out as “under investigation” in the meantime but it’ll still slow things down.
