Buy the Glock. Trigger pull is a skill issue.

Buy every gun with intent to shoot the hell out if it and desire for it to last forever. Once you've got your bases covered you can branch out for interesting, boutique, and fun.

I did some target practice with my hunting rifle last week.
First tried it with the training ammo (FMJ) and then with hunting ammo.
After some adjustment to the sight, I am very pleased with it.

Stay away from pistons unless you are putting in the insane amount of work for a real 416. SCAR is probably the way to go for maximizing the benefits of a piston rifle.

BCM and DD indeed are great. Typically I use FN as a baseline or guide for pricepoint and features. I know Colt has some doo-doo in their pants right now (outsourced parts) but honestly I've never seen a pony gat go down, but I have seen plenty of visual blems on them.

I will give the advice I always give - if its possible try to go to a range with rentals (or make friends with a guy with a gun library) and try shooting them before you buy. Both are quite common and there's a good chance you'd be able to try them both out.

Glocks just work. They're boring but you really can't go wrong with them. They're a great standard to compare everything against.

I always prefer metal over polymer if there's an option, but again there's nothing really wrong with polymer I just prefer all metal. It also depends on what you're going to be using the gun for. Saving a few ounces for your conceal carry gun might matter to you. A couple additional ounces to help mitigate recoil for a gun you're going to be doing IDPA matches with might matter to you. That sort of minutiae is endlessly argued over.

Ultimately pick a gun that you're going to actually use for its intended purpose (EDC, range toy, SHTF, larping, whatever) because that's what matters the most. Guns that just sit on the shelf are kinda sad.

Glock is always the right answer but you can't go wrong with either. But it's spelt Wesson.

But as recommended elsewhere, try as many guns as you can. You might find you prefer hammer fired over striker. Metal over poly. Etc.

If going for a Glock, look for a Glock 17 or 19 police trade. I've seen Glock 17 gen 4s for as low as $280 and they are great shooters. Glock 19 is a bit more expensive, but compact. Smith & Wesson M&Ps are great, but all of the great deals are for 40 cal, which is a bit much for a new shooter. Both are excellent choices though!

Piston guns are typically on the heavier side in my experience but if you're going to have your gat be suppressed full time it's kind of a no brainer. 416s and LMTs are looked at quite often but LWRC's IC-A5 is something of a hidden gem in the piston AR world. LWRC makes a factory short stroke piston 12.7" AR Pistol with a cold hammer forged spiral fluted barrel on a monolithic shovelnose receiver with adjustable gas. It is one of the smoothest suppressed pieces I've ever shot in my entire life with only the APC coming close to it. We're talking meek 5.45 or .22 LR levels of felt recoil, it was gassed that perfect. While it isn't as popular as its competitors I did find out that Swedish police and special forces do indeed use LWRC as their main go to rifle, talk about patrician taste.

I'm much less concerened with felt recoil then I am proprietary parts and weight. If I'm adding ounces I wan't to get big gains. If I'm soft recoil maxing I'd use a tuned gas tube (an AR modification I will endorse) with a DI system and RTV mod to breath fresh air.

I see the absolute perfect use case for pistons as high volume of fire shooting + suppressor + in adverse conditions. If this describes the type of shooting you do or have ambitions for, the piston is king. And the most robust system is the 416. Not a knock on the others. Never fired a piston (other than the IAR/416) for more then a show and share session at the range.

LWRC makes excellent guns, their piston I think is a bit lighter which is nice, but the HK has more hours in testing and real use then probably all the competition combined.

My understanding is that the gun was designed to be basically as cheap as possible to manufacture while fulfilling the government contract's requirements and then they undercut their competition by saying they'd sell the guns to the government essentially at cost or maybe making like $1 per gun sold. Also under the ATF's interpretation of 18 U.S. Code § 922(r), imported guns do have to have at least 51% American made parts so there's some protectionism involved in every gun sold here. I think.

They did try to change it - kinda. Within a few years they were discovering issues with the drop safety of the P320 and issued a mandatory safety recall voluntary upgrade program. To be fair to Sig, its not that the design is shit - I'm not an engineer but my understanding is that what they did was pretty clever - its that they went too far to cut costs and quality control is biting them in the ass and their margin of safety was just too tight to absorb the slop.

Glock got big by undercutting everyone, too. Granted, they had to undercut a lot less drastically than Sig did since the gap for switching from metal framed hammer fired guns to polymer striker fired ones is a lot bigger than striker fired to striker fired. As it turns out, the only way Sig was able to undercut the competition was to outsource critical MIM parts to anyone willing to churn them out and then throwing them into an already questionable design.
