Oh, since we're grinding gears (npi) here: I'm okay with +10ish depending on scenario, but people need to understand defensive driving. I was taught what that was in my drivers' ed class/ training in the paleolithic era, but 30 years later, my kids were not, for some fucking reason. They learned it from me, and they still mention it often as a critical concept. Also/related: merging and moving over (in whichever direction) for the safety and flow of traffic, and understanding the basic physics of motion.

It's what's called a fusion party. The Democratic Party in Minnesota merged with the Farmer-Labor Party, which depending on your view was either small-s socialist or outright Communist. It is unusual among fusion parties in actually having lasted for more than a few years. Most such parties cease to exist either after achieving, or more often, failing to achieve whatever odd circumstances led to their creation, such as, for instance, the Know-Nothing Party (actually called the American Party but much more well known for the epithet bestowed upon them).

The DFL is most known for having fielded three failed Presidential candidates, Hubert Humphry, Eugene McCarthy, and Walter Mondale; Paul Wellstone, whose very convenient death in an airplane crash changed the control of the Senate in 2002; and of course Al Franken.

That said, it's basically just a quirk that it's still called that because it's basically just the Democrats at this point, although a particularly left version of them.
