Youtube General thread (formerly Youtube Censorship discussion thread)

I've been on YouTube a very long time, I believe my first video uploaded was in 2009.
YouTube has been in steady decline since the Pewdiepie nigger incident. Sanitized, commercialized, scrubbed clean. I have been returning out of a force of habit, rather than out of true enjoyment.
YouTube has already asked me for my ID, barring me basic creator functions until I do.

If YouTube demands I upload a photo of myself to simply use the site, I don't think I'll be using it at all anymore.

Any NewPipe users getting ads now? I actually (and I swear I'm not kidding) got two unskippable ones about a week ago, though it only happened once and they never came back.
Wondering if they're doing a gradual rollout or something similar. I know NewPipe doesn't have the best reputation, but that incident spooked me quite a bit.

YouTube is now adding AI age verification. It’ll look at what kind of videos you’re watching, not the age you say you are. If you’re the victim of a false positive, cough up that Govt ID or Credit Card.
Here are a few tricks to insure you remain legal to drink in Youtubes eyes. Add these to your Subscriptions and routinely watch or at least play them

No AI seeing those playlists will think you are a day under 60

I eagerly await all the autistic freaks’ punishing three hour long commentary on how this disproportionately affects them because they watch splatoon game theory videos and smashing that like button on some Harley Davidson reviews is too hard.

>watch Ruben Sim catching pedophiles in roblox
>assumed under-age because roblox
>???
>profit

It's all just using and abusing the tags youtubers whore spam over to get shoved into the algorithm. There's very little sophisticated work going on here I imagine.
Youtubers also attempt to avoid being age restricted or demonetized by self-censoring. Avoiding the ban-bot and tricking viewers into being assumed under-age.

Lame!

A couple years ago Youtube tried age verification and briefly asked for IDs until they stopped after in like less than a month. Can't believe they're retarded enough to roll this out again.
I wish I could find the screenshot but a really old layout of Youtube even used to give the advice to not share personal information when creating an account until they removed the blurb.

Been hit with the new UI test. It's pure, genuine, unadulterated cancer. I don't know how you can release it more broken than the previous version ever was.

If I were you, I'd uninstall whatever you have immediately. Where did you download it? That's probably not the official .apk or one repackaged through safe channels, they're listed on the GitHub project. It could also be another app that got permission to display over others and is malicious. NewPipe's rep is perfectly fine, but they've always had issues with fake apps being published all over the place (including the Play Store, as they'd still report all issues on their github spamming it). I don't see anything about YouTube injecting ads in their video streams yet too, that'd be pretty big news even as an A/B test (but it's something there's been rumors may come for years now).

I can't remember exactly where I got it from, but it was either F-Droid or their official website (newpipe.net) with 100% certainty. This was also on a device running GrapheneOS, though (and I doubt this makes a difference) I did have Google services installed. From my recollection of it, it seemed to be somewhat well integrated in the app (like there was a yellow seek bar, similar to the official YouTube app).
I swear I'm not making this up, and again it only happened once.

Edit: worth noting that I may have clicked on a video link in the browser beforehand, I can't say for certain whether or not I searched for something in the app. I really wish I had taken a screenshot, it just didn't occur to me at the time.

They still do. Found out one of my YouTube accounts wasn't age verified a couple days ago. Gave me 4 options.
1. ID
2. Credit Card
3. A selfie
4. Some magical "we'll see what we already have on you" option.

Tried 4, didn't work. Not about to do 1 or 2. I gave it a picture of Danny DeVito for 3. It worked.

Does invidious still work? I want to import all of my YouTube watch histories from my old Gmails and export a big list of every video I watched so I will know which ones I should archive or not. Is there any way I could do this?

Yes it does. Use the Nadeko instance, and if YouTube is blocking a particular server on Nadeko, you can easily switch between them to find one that works.

Let Google's trooncoders blow their amholes out of rage in the dilation stations on Google's company grounds.

Not defending it, it's faggy and should be illegal

But I suspect it will be very rudimentary unless some serious glow in the dark faggotry is going on

Probably a rudimentary algorithm picking out the channels constantly watching Cocomelon, Miss Rachel, FNAF, and Undertale shit. As opposed to autistic coding tutorials or the full history of some 19th century shipwreck, and other such material good natured autistic adults put on in the background
