It alienated one side of the current mega-donor civil war - the "oh fuck we lost the male youth vote" side. She's still the default candidate in the minds of optics-obsessed "first X in history", "endlessly reliving the Obama years" donors. And that side, from everything I've read, bought the excuse that 2024 was all the fault of Biden's clique, and she was distant enough of a VP during his administration to not really get splattered with any of the shit that hit him.
By all accounts, she's enormously popular with the rank-and-file in the DC party apparatus, she's just perceived to have the Hillary problem of being great in a room, but terrible in an auditorium. And the party is still stuck on the idea that the only thing that cost them so hard last election was messaging errors, not their actual policies. She did show (marginal) improvement last time compared to the 2020 primary. I can see them convincing themselves she'd be even better with 2 years' prep and a full campaign season to work.
She's not popular with the money side or the Party Elite. She popular with the low end rank and file Progs that are going to be a huge issue for the Dems in the primary. The people that do the ground level grunt work of the party and their middle managers. Any donors that are still gung ho about her are fucking Zimbabwe pennies in comparison.
The Democratic Party has made a nice little demographic disaster for them. A user, I believe
@Jaimas, talks about working in that apertatus, how the party gave no upward mobility to a new young generation and washed out a potential talent pool. So you have the Reddit moderator mindset filling that position, ultra progress, willing to work the same job for long periods and mediocre pay, because they're extremely ideological, but don't leave for something better. We're taking people that tweet 18 hours a day about Trump for free mindset.
It got way worse after Oct 7, because these people are extremely ProPalestine, anti-Isreal, and it scared off a lot of the Jews that knew what they were doing. And there have been stories that these slightly higher up positions were overwhelmingly filled with incompetent black women, because that's the proformative progressive mindset de jour.
These people ran Kamala's campaign. We have stories of seasoned campaigners ripping their hair out at how utterly inept and incompetent they were. They are the people that decided to not go to Joe Rogan, who decided to spend hundreds of thousands of dollars making a set in a hotel room to go on Call Me Daddy. If rumors are true, they are who stole the nomination from Biden, with Press Secretary Karine Jean-Pierre putting out the letter endorsing Kamala with out Biden's approval.
All the polling shows they went to far left, they need to pivot to the center. The mega wealthy donors are vocal about how upset they are at how 2024 was run, were talking the kind of people that donate 9 figures. However the people that do they everyday ground work of the party nation wide want to go further left and will absolutely be livid if they get cheated out of their candidate.
