Rosalarian went on a 1 page/week break during May and June, but now she's finally back to posting two pages a week of her comic Magical Women, so posting about it doesn't feel like a form of fucking Chinese water torture. (My last post was here.)

The faces she draws are unintentional comedy gold every time.

I don't think a monthly or biweekly "Lol Look at how shit this was this month" post is too much; its not like we're drowning in content here. When people are doing consistent daily updates on every post (sinfest, willis' comic abortion, schizobunny, handstab, Pizzacake, etc) then it probably needs its own thread.

This page had some commenters speculate that Violet (the dark-haired girl) has romantic inclinations towards Rose (the blonde one), but it's not entirely unheard of for women to share makeup with one another. (Is it unsanitary? Yeah, but it's not unheard of.) Also, I think this is Rosalarian's attempt to imply that Violet is transgender because she implies she doesn't like to be seen as a girl, as Violet is sporting a hideous pedo-stache in the "present time" version of themselves featured here. I believe Raven Lyn clemens has been discussed here before, but this has to pack quite baggage onto his art already. It's something about this weird overlap with the hand here that clued me in.

It's not clear enough that he's behind his dad.

There's also the fact that their relative positions are arranged as if the camera is placed a little above them, rather than level with them. So despite him being behind his dad, his head is actually a little higher, where we'd expect the opposite. When the camera's level with them, the one in the background looks smaller and their head is lower. See below.



So them looking like they do in the frame would require the camera pointing down slightly. The problem is that the only frame of reference for the room we have in the frame is the door, which doesn't show any signs of being slightly off-angle. So your brain struggles to reconcile that perspective issue.

And both of them are side-eyeing each other, rather than one fully turning their head to look at the other well. So this whole thing can seem like the son is unusually small and standing on some form of platform in front of the dad, rather than behind him.

The only thing that definitely locks it in is that his hand does go behind his dad's body. but because the perspective's so for, this does more to make it clear wwhat the other issues with the perspective are, rather than lock in the correct interpretation.

Note how the horizon intersects these guys in roughly the same place. I don't know who these guys are but I'm guessing they are roughly the same height. Batshaped once did a primer on perspective theory where she demonstrated that once a character of a given height has been established on the horizon, said horizon should always intersect their body in the same place.
