A heated row has broken out over a move by Britain's largest bakery chain to launch a vegan sausage roll.

The pastry, which is filled with a meat substitute and encased in 96 pastry layers, is available in 950 Greggs stores across the country.

It was promised after 20,000 people signed a petition calling for the snack to be launched to accommodate plant-based diet eaters.


But the vegan sausage roll's launch has been greeted by a mixed reaction: Some consumers welcomed it, while others voiced their objections.

Cook and food poverty campaigner Jack Monroe declared she was "frantically googling to see what time my nearest opens tomorrow morning because I will be outside".

While TV writer Brydie Lee-Kennedy called herself "very pro the Greggs vegan sausage roll because anything that wrenches veganism back from the 'clean eating' wellness folk is a good thing".

One Twitter user wrote that finding vegan sausage rolls missing from a store in Corby had "ruined my morning".

Another said: "My son is allergic to dairy products which means I can't really go to Greggs when he's with me. Now I can. Thank you vegans."

TV presenter Piers Morgan led the charge of those outraged by the new roll.

"Nobody was waiting for a vegan bloody sausage, you PC-ravaged clowns," he wrote on Twitter.

Mr Morgan later complained at receiving "howling abuse from vegans", adding: "I get it, you're all hangry. I would be too if I only ate plants and gruel."

Another Twitter user said: "I really struggle to believe that 20,000 vegans are that desperate to eat in a Greggs."

"You don't paint a mustach (sic) on the Mona Lisa and you don't mess with the perfect sausage roll," one quipped.

Journalist Nooruddean Choudry suggested Greggs introduce a halal steak bake to "crank the fume levels right up to 11".

The bakery chain told concerned customers that "change is good" and that there would "always be a classic sausage roll".

It comes on the same day McDonald's launched its first vegetarian "Happy Meal", designed for children.

The new dish comes with a "veggie wrap", instead of the usual chicken or beef option.

It should be noted that Piers Morgan and Greggs share the same PR firm, so I'm thinking this is some serious faux outrage and South Park KKK gambiting here.

I really hate all these people that think because in their mind they "identify" or believe they are something, that it in some way alters the reality of the situation for everyone else. The more insistant they are, the less likely I am to believe them. The more someone says "I'm one of your gang" the more likely I am to say "no you're fucking not".
Do they not understand the only way you belong is by being accepted by the established members of the group, not by dictating to the group that you are one of them. I think this is sneaky by Badenoch, by telling us what she doesn't identify as - being Nigerian, the implication is that she has to be English.

Labour aren't tearing into her and the Tories aren't tearing into her because they know she won't be the Tory leader at the next election. It's wasted energy. She'll be gone by this time next year or if they are really biding their time, Christmas 2026. They're:

• Being overly cautious and not attacking since their own record in office is fresh in voters' minds. The key difference from where we are now is that the Tories/Labour aren't seen as "can't we get them back again? They were better", they're seen as "The Tories and Labour are both the problem". This is a drastic change in the way voters think from how it usually is in the UK.
• Not wanting to switch leaders again too quickly which would trigger even more defections to Reform and make them look a shambles. Can they get back the leakage to Reform from 2021 - 2028?
• Not wanting to be irrelevant by the time of the next election.

Near-impossible tightrope to walk on. We're currently at the point in time where this perfect storm is attacking both the Tories and Labour and I'm all for it. The Tories are now widely seen as illegitimate. Labour have positioned themselves perfectly to piss off their hard-left members and also somehow come across as even worse than the Tories. There's no coming back for this government, the writing is already on the wall for them.

All focus is on Farage and Corbyn. If this momentum stays up, the two party system will disappear and it will disappear forever. The Tories will become a relic and will be eaten by Reform after the next election (provided no Farage-sized nukes go off) and Labour are genuinely at-risk of being consumed by the Corbynite/Blairite rift. After this happened to Labour in the 70s with Michael Foot and Kinnock, they didn't get back into office for nearly 20 years. That was doable in the 80s and 90s. With the current media landscape and the general attention span of a UK citizen these days, they will not recover from that.

Should write a book in ten years about how the winter fuel allowance assassinated the world's two oldest political parties and killed off an entire political class. We don't change our foundational systems much in the UK and if the two party system is eliminated, it's one of those things that we will never get back. I just hope we don't become like European countries where they have an election with 30 parties and it's all coalitions where nobody gets what they want.

Saw some videos on YouTube today, mostly from far lefties who are now getting effected by what they voted for the new online safety act. I've got to admit that it is pretty funny from within a year of from cheering on Labour winning and saying they were going to do all this stuff to the right, for it to then be used on them once Labour got into to power is comedy gold. All whilst the Tories were in power they had 0 to say on censorship because they very well knew it only really effected one side and now that Labour no longer needs them NOW they have an issue with it.

I'm not hate watching anything. We've had an industrial child rape network running back since the end of WW2. It's only grown and got more connected from it's London brothel origins. It's not soul poisoning to say the truth. It's soul poisoning not having people respond to it.
