Payment Processor Censorship (Visa / Mastercard / Stripe / PayPal etc) - Discuss Payment Processor/Gateways/Banks censoring people in this thread.

Valve responding is fucking huge news, if you don't follow gaming closely Valve is an isolated inland empire that doesn't ever say shit about what's going on internally. For them to put out a statement that actively explains what happened means they've got to be fucking pissed all the way up the chain.

Even when the refund system went into place as a result of Australian consumer protections they never really said anything - they just explained how it would work for publishers, launched it then never touched it again. Same as when they were getting dicked down by EA and Microsoft while publishing The Orange Box and the Left 4 Dead games through them on consoles, they didn't elaborate beyond saying they were going in a different direction. It was other people with experience in publishing at the time who broke down the costs and restrictions on XBLA updates, parity clauses and Microsoft's mandates on charging for DLC packs. Opaque but straightforward is Valve's M.O.

That a company of their stature is willing to specifically elaborate on exactly what they were told by their processing partners in public is genuinely unprecedented. If we're lucky we might get to see Gayben blast his yacht fleet up the Potomac and hurl cannon balls at the Senate until they wrangle these nigger companies in.

Only times I can ever remember them putting out full press statements is situations like the Hatred fiasco years back, where they know a significant portion of their playerbase is pissed, and there's something going on internally that has them just as upset.

So what your saying is if this works that, hypothetically, viewers could also start to ask mastercard about why they cant donate to their favorite cheese enthusiast internet drama news show?
by technicality, yes but they can also do a fast one and deny with a claim that shit is a trade secret even if something is or not on their list.
at the end of the day, peak jewtry.

They are getting dicked up the fucking ass right now. As big as Valve is, and they are, the Payment Processors are tremendously bigger. They HAVE to do what they say. Its not an option. It does not mean they are happy or even agree with this direction the cards are FORCING their company to take. They only implemented Rule 15 because they had a gun to the back of their head. Yes, they are mad.

If the payment processors continue chaining Valve like a dog then many of these developers are gonna start using other platforms quick.

I really think we underestimate how deep these credit card processors and banks have too much power to dictate how society within culture should be used from top to bottom. In a perfect world, Mastercard and VISA would be decimated in favor of an independent owned and centralized bank that works for the people and not decide who can and can not bank from them.

If I recall, they might do the same to Bitcoin if they have not already.

You don't understand. They will go after ALL PLATFORMS if this is not stopped now. This either ends here or it never fucking ends. The Internet and everything you know will accelerate into fake and gay oblivion, to the likes of which you cannot comprehend.

Hatred and maybe when they nuked Digital Homicide off for actionable threats against Gabe, but even those explanations were pretty waffling because they were frankly piddly, embarrassing situations for them. They didn't break it down so succinctly - that the response to Kotaku is so pointed and transparent leads me to believe they're preparing to take some kind of action.

If there's anyone in the industry that could it's Valve; they're one of the biggest privately held companies left in the country. They have an empire to protect, a war chest to burn and no double-dipping investors to pull them off of Mastercard's throat if they decide to lunge.

These aren't Payment Processors, they're the Payment Networks. Visa, Mastercard, Discover, and American Express. They hold a cartel on the entire business of online payment outside of Crypto. Normies aren't going to use cryptocurrency since even most cryptobros use it as a security or asset and not as a proper currency. These platforms that you speak of would be snuffed out before you even blink. These payment networks are so powerful that they have the power to snuff out the largest corporations if they chose to do so.

The payment networks need to be curb stomped American History X style before they can be allowed to enact unholy levels of power on a colossal basis.

Will? It's already happening.
Can alternatives even be built at this point? I can only assume they've regulated out any chance of building anything new.

And it's gonna get worse unless this is stopped

In theory. But if even one was built they still have to work with the other 4. Laws need to be changed for long term effect.

Yet again the world is going to experience a sea change because autistic gamers are pissed off.

They don't need to be built. All that needs to happen is the federal government to regulate the existing payment networks as a utility and ban them from refusing legal transactions.

Their #1 asset has been being too boring for people to look into this. They fucked that up.

You're under-assuming the utter desperacy that's happening right now. The gooner economy will start to take shape in the name of all of this, it's how these cultural shifts work.
