Very interesting. I know the city and history of Charleston rather well. Charleston was burned to the ground by Uncle Billy and his boys as the city was seen as a symbolic home of the Confederacy and where it started...you know..Fort Sumter? The Union troops had a hard on for Chucktown. So they took the torch to it. This wasn't so much the work of cannon fire as much as it was burning wooden buildings to the ground. Thats why all that was left were mostly buildings of stone.
how burn brick bossman? we make FIREPLACES OUT OF THE SHIT

those arent chared remains thay are airblasted to shit, its a top down force that destroyed those things, a cannon would take em out at the base if it even could.

Again, you're ignoring exposure time. In those days the camera lens had to be open for up to a few minutes to record the image. Troops forming up implies MOTION, which results in a badly blurred photograph. Photos back then weren't cheap (or easy) to take; obviously photographers wouldn't waste time or money taking shots they knew wouldn't/couldn't come out. And that's also why everything was posed - the sitters could be kept motionless and, most importantly, there was somebody on hand to pay for everything.
If you want to sperg out about old photos, check out Victorian post-mortem photography. Very, very macabre, very, very fucked up.
And like I said, there's not that much actual combat footage from WW1 or WW2 either. A lot of staged stuff, yes. Actual footage from the frontlines, nope. Why would you get your expensive propaganda cameras there, where they can be destroyed?

It's a much different world nowadays when every soldier has a smartphone and you have GoPro's with the majority of squads. And every civilian has that technology as well. War in Ukraine is really the first example of a war where basically every combat operation is recorded, and those that we won't see (SOF operations) are because the footage is held back, not because it wasn't shot.

I see very little rubble in some of those photos, hoss. It seems to me someone came through and picked up a lot of the rubble and filled in the craters as well, right? HMMMMMMMM.

Bonus points for spotting the scorch mark on the concrete back there and the bent wrought iron fence tops

You're interpreting behavior from 160 years ago with a contemporary lens. That's stupid.

The buildings weren't entirely made of brick. They contained plenty of structural wood (rafters, floors, beams, and the like), plaster, furniture, etc., all of which burns really well, and produces plenty of heat when it does.

I generally enjoy your posts so i'll be as kind as I can. Those men were a lot different today's military, A LOT different. Those men were fighting for their people, their homes, their way of life. Those men were brothers, cousins, families really. That's a closeness we've lost in modern times, looking at it through a modern lense is doing them a disservice.
What is rather stunning to me, how much like one of them I look.

The right pic is very gay tbf. Left isn't. Look at dem 1000 yard stares, those dudes have seen some serious shit and know how fleeting existence is.

I kinda like this puppet. Also are all white liberals becoming gay old retards jesus. I thought republicans kind of had the market cornered on old white retards.
It is funny after 10+ years to still see the brown shirts walking around these rallies making sure no one engages with a blue puppet.

ok yep heres your problem

Funny questions, but I feel like this guy had security off camera. Lefties are extremely violent people and I feel like that bitch in the glasses was asking how much the camera was because she was planning on smashing it after he told her,

you are getting there...

No guys thats no Dresden or Hiroshima, thst Charleston South Carolina that looks like its been hit that a damn nuke, look at all the brick work destruction FROM CANNONS?
From dudes with torches and orders of "You're risking death here away from your families because these fucks were the first to leave the union. Give them a piece of your mind."

i wonder how actual american indians feel about 'redskins' style brands or general 'cowboys and indians' media tropes

from what i can tell these things usually portray indians in a pretty positive light, like 'honorable noble savages' style but with a big emphasis on the 'noble' part while minimizing the 'savages' part
When I was in college I had the good fortune to have a married pair of professors who would have agreed with you completely about the 'savage' part of "noble savage"

That second picture, that Richmond or Vicksburg? Did I mention the Union boys under Sherman meant to make South Carolina howl?
it looks burnt because Charleston was engulfed in a firestorm in 1861. burned most of the city down and wasn't rebuilt until after the war. it started as a camp fire that got out of control due to high winds. the damage was exacerbated by the federal shelling of the city for almost two years straight. if a fire burns hot enough the bricks become weak and brittle and will collapse.

reconstruction of one of the buildings was only very recently completed. The cathedral was finally finished in 2010!

There were a lot of post-battle photos taken of places like Gettysburg and Bull Run as well, because the dead don’t move. Not keen on posting them here because the fallen deserve respect and dignity, but they’re easily found if the curious feel like looking for them.
