UK British News Megathread - aka CWCissey's news thread

https://news.sky.com/story/row-over-new-greggs-vegan-sausage-rolls-heats-up-11597679

A heated row has broken out over a move by Britain's largest bakery chain to launch a vegan sausage roll.

The pastry, which is filled with a meat substitute and encased in 96 pastry layers, is available in 950 Greggs stores across the country.

It was promised after 20,000 people signed a petition calling for the snack to be launched to accommodate plant-based diet eaters.

But the vegan sausage roll's launch has been greeted by a mixed reaction: Some consumers welcomed it, while others voiced their objections.

Cook and food poverty campaigner Jack Monroe declared she was "frantically googling to see what time my nearest opens tomorrow morning because I will be outside".

While TV writer Brydie Lee-Kennedy called herself "very pro the Greggs vegan sausage roll because anything that wrenches veganism back from the 'clean eating' wellness folk is a good thing".

One Twitter user wrote that finding vegan sausage rolls missing from a store in Corby had "ruined my morning".

Another said: "My son is allergic to dairy products which means I can't really go to Greggs when he's with me. Now I can. Thank you vegans."

TV presenter Piers Morgan led the charge of those outraged by the new roll.

"Nobody was waiting for a vegan bloody sausage, you PC-ravaged clowns," he wrote on Twitter.

Mr Morgan later complained at receiving "howling abuse from vegans", adding: "I get it, you're all hangry. I would be too if I only ate plants and gruel."

Another Twitter user said: "I really struggle to believe that 20,000 vegans are that desperate to eat in a Greggs."

"You don't paint a mustach (sic) on the Mona Lisa and you don't mess with the perfect sausage roll," one quipped.

Journalist Nooruddean Choudry suggested Greggs introduce a halal steak bake to "crank the fume levels right up to 11".

The bakery chain told concerned customers that "change is good" and that there would "always be a classic sausage roll".

It comes on the same day McDonald's launched its first vegetarian "Happy Meal", designed for children.

The new dish comes with a "veggie wrap", instead of the usual chicken or beef option.

It should be noted that Piers Morgan and Greggs share the same PR firm, so I'm thinking this is some serious faux outrage and South Park KKK gambiting here.

My uncle was declared literally brain dead by NHS monkey docs and when saying his goodbyes to him, my Grandad walked out and said "He said he's not dying." Turns out he was not in fact, completely brain dead. Fucking insane.
Since we're all diving into a bit TMI, here's my experience.

My terminally-ill father was kept in a shitty southern hospital (Weymouth/Bournemouth/Plymouth area) with a ceiling crumbling in the corner. We had the "there's nothing more we can do" conversation with him and they moved him to a lovely hospice around the corner. He was on the brink of dying for two weeks and at the end of that two weeks when he was at his weakest, they moved him (a 56 year old man) to a care home for dementia patients and people in their 70s - 100s. Died a few hours after he got there. Dumped him in an old peoples' home.

Why do that to a man? Met someone at a job I was on who had almost exactly the same experiences.

Maybe the solution to the immigration problem lies there?
An immigrant gets a native sponsor who assures their good behaviour.
If immigrant does not stay on his best behaviour, then he's deported and the sponsor receives some kind of censuring or punishment.

I think we all got our own Indian ortho. I've got the Turkish man who worked in a cafe and saved my grandma's life after she had a heart attack by performing CPR until the Ambulance arrived. Chunky Salsa's got Fedposter, and he has Kemi Badenoch. I think lots of people may have at least 1.
What a dude,to save your grandma's life. CPR is hard shit to do. I hope she is okay now.

On subject of people dying: nigh on 20 years back my maternal grandmother, who I was exceptionally close to, was diagnosed with Parkinson's disease. Was horrible, she had that dementia that goes along with it. She passed just after Christmas 2013. Had a huge Christmas tea, got battered on sherry and fell asleep, ever to wake up. She died with the nursing home cats sat on her, with sailing by by Ronald Binge playing on radio. Absolutely worse ways to go imo.

She and I were very close cos I was born on her 50th birthday. She was the best person I knew. When I started school I remember being stumped other kids don't have their birthdays on their grandma's birthdays.

Great campaign slogan too "Save the good ones". Hell, even the prospect of "behave and we might let you stay" might improve things a bit for the locals. Even if they still get catapulted by the end.

Give it to me straight, Brits. Is this true or not?

Thread music:

The take I'm seeing in response to this is "well most of the people surveyed think more of our immigration is illegal than legal! that's wrong and actually 90% of immigrants are here legally! you can't listen to the uneducated masses." Typical smugness from people who use shitty analogies like "we're being tricked into hating downward thinking migrants are taking our resources when actually it's the fat cats bringing the migrants over" - however true that may or may not be, the migrants are still consuming fucking resources and enshittifying the services they're hired into.

The fact that most Brits erroneously think the majority of our immigration is illegal speaks volumes - sure they don't know the real stats, but moreso it demonstrates that most people can't fathom that it is legal. When you see an uneducated, barely english-speaking person working in another money-laundering kebab shop/barber/vape shop, or a fucking Deliveroo driver, you can't actually believe that we're willingly bringing these people over. They might be mistaken on paper but they're absolutely right that it's fucked up.

You know why?

All Hospitals are cancelling surgeries on White/British born people in order to treat migrants.

Had a 'bod' from Cwm Taf tell me that it's been practice since and during lockdown that Hospitals are deemed MO (Migrants Only) for surgery, with the only two options for people being to go Private or FOAD (F*** Off And Die).

One woman who's been ill since 2017 and waiting for a knee op (turning 80 in October) has been told that she'll have to wait indefinitely or take £16.5k out of her savings to have private surgery. Her doctor promised two knee replacements for free and is now quitting the NHS as 'it is hopeless - even Bosnia (where he is originally from) has better healthcare.'

The Admins love it as they get £500 from the Government per migrant which goes into THEIR pockets and not into the system.

Staff from Orderlies to Band Nurses are sick of this and have threatened to quit UNISON if they continue to back Labour and Starmer and not Your Party and Corbyn. Admins actual response 'we'll just import replacements from the third world, you can't beat us you'll never win.'

Edit: Some clarification from Nigel Farage over yesterday's comments - he hasn't gone 'woke', thankfully, and he meant that all prisoners (Trans or not) need to be treated with respect and dignity in spite of the crimes they've committed:

Though IMO we need Trans only Prisons (and a lot of Trans people are seemingly fine with this as well).

It's false.
The number is actually 77% (add up "no more migrant" totals of "strong support" and "somwhat support")
View attachment 7739279
These are separate questions not multiple choice, so you can't simply add them up. You would expect people that strongly support removing migrants to at least somewhat support no new migrants even if they don't think it's ideal.

I think lots of people may have at least 1.
A lot of people will have the same one between them, too, which lowers the numbers significantly.

Mine's a dentist, christian indian, who tutored under my previous very, very jewish dentist, who was among the best in the world until he retired. He's probably got about 500 people who would sponsor him to stay, if it came to it. Even if he goes back, I'd likely risk the flight out to Bombay to keep using him. Not like I'd be paying much more than I already am...

I actually quite like this idea. Not many trendy types would be willing to put their actual neck on the line for an particular poor innocent migrant asylum seeker, who they only want to think of as a faceless mass, rather than as individual rapists. They want other people to deal with the fallout of their decisions.

He's adding together two responses to the same question, though. This is common in surveys, where they will often group people who respond "yes" and "maybe" as "support" and "no" or "probably not" as "oppose".

Don't forget that Nigel gets to handpick a few cronies himself, so Zia Yusuf will be shoehorned onto the board whether you like it or not.

Britons who don’t want to incur the wrath of their liberal rulers by pushing back also have the adoption of embracing political correctness and adjusting themselves to the new Britain planned for them. The Babylon Bee offers helpful tips on how to avoid harmfully stereotyping a Moslem colonist who is assaulting you:
These tips will come in all the handier as Britain evolves into an unholy mixture of Pakistan and Somalia as demographics are shifted.

If politics wasn't conflicting with some aspects of the farm regarding lolcows, I think it would be fair to hold a vote to make a whole sub-forum dedicated to the United Kingdom, the first country in the world to achieve lolcowdom.

Very funny, but Starmer will definitely go after The Babylon Bee and demand the Kiwi Farms treatment upon them.
