They had many opportunities to blow up and they always do everything in their power to negate any windfall they might get. They would rather squat in their own filth and create their own little hugbox than even think about letting in outsiders. They are the dregs of 8chan nobody liked that won't tell you that first and foremost, 8chan was about the communities coming together and enjoying their independence, all sorts and all types. Now, 8/v/ won't even have gamenights with other altchan /v/s since they (rightfully) hate Mark and cakechan users too much, and they in return get asshurt at being made fun of
This picture sums it up, the last few pissant imageboards are more than happy to get into fights with one another and chase away any potential 4chan users than to actually try and become the new 4/8chan themselves. Even in it's death spiral 4chan still manages to be more relevant. And if we're talking about 8moe in particular, I think Mark would rather abandon /v/ than to get rid of lolicon(Null said this was about the experience he had dealing with him) and Acid would definitely rather shut down the whole site than to stop gooning to little girls. It ain't happening.
The only groups that managed to actually carve a community on 8moe in any capacity after death of Julay would be:
*Various degenerates
*Pedophiles(Acid had to make a showing of chasing them out after the /hebe/ incident but as long as they stick to drawings, they are more than welcome still)
*Hispachan community(site was so dead that for a time, that Spanish was the primary language of 8moe after the refugees flooded in)
*Gacha/Vtuber fans(ie dregs of /jp/, /vt/ and /vg/)
*Certain game generals after the last 4chan hack made their bunkers on 8/v/
Nothing else comes to mind, otherwise the userbase has been generally the exact same over the years with little in a way of change. In case you're wondering, the only users of zzzchan are just contrarian 8/v/ users who are sick of Mark, and as you would think spite can only fuel your site for so long. Despite that, their /b/ board had it's own lolicon problem, but honestly the site is so dead that it's probably only a handful of autists using the board as their own personal asylum, which is all too common when most of the webring is a ghost town. Same thing happens on 4chan to a degree, but that's more of a problem with non-existent moderation depending on board and time of day.
That said, I can still go on /v/ and get the latest news or talk about current topics, which is more than can be said about any webring /v/ board, or really any other board. I doubt there is any topic that 4chan doesn't cover where you can't just talk about it there, versus hoping that somebody replies to you at the end of the day on a similar board on the webring. It could always be worse, not that it's any better but 4chan is rotting away versus the webring, which just straight up destroyed itself for little reason. The difference here is that 4chan users might still salvage what they have, where as all 8moe users and friends can do is cope in their decaying internet ruins.
