Honestly, I think the only reason he even kept Vito around was because he was too proud to admit that Null was right about him. I know the primary theory is that he's there to make Dax look good and to be the lightning rod for any hate tossed his way hate, but the trade-off is way too steep for that to be the primary reason behind it.

The difference is you're a normal human being that can think rationally. Dick isn't. Don't ever underestimate a cows ability to hold a grudge. Maddox for crying out loud held a grudge against somebody who left a critical comment on his site, spending twenty years stalking this guy and eventually publicly celebrating when that person had something bad happen to them.

Vito was also a loyal lackey who was willing to do Juju's bidding whenever he demanded it. There are a lot of reasons why Dick kept Vito around for years.
