Why don't pooners own guns? Whenever a post from transguns gets posted here it's always a troon. As someone with guntism I can tell you it's my most overwhelmingly male hobby. I don't know how else to say it, I think I respect trans people too much? About a quarter of my IRL friends are LGBT, and they all have such amazing life stories that make us stick together better. Though I will say I know very little about the specifics of transitioning, but am still supportive because they are nice people to hang around and pretty normal (moreso than me, lul).*
BUT
I can't lie that it does kind of suck sometimes. Maybe I'm a bad person for thinking in a hierarchy, but I don't know if unchangeables (like race, sexuality) are comparable to changeables like gender at an innate level. I somewhat chastize friends who entirely cut off their families to transition, though they tell me there's a "window" by which if they don't get started early enough they won't look good and "pass" later on. It feels like a sunk cost fallacy waiting to happen. I don't care what gender you say you are, like I don't care what religion you are, as long as you don't push it in my face the same. These are deep, personal questions you need to ask yourself about. I wouldn't let a Reddit atheist change my worldview, and I won't let some Discord drama get in my life either.
(Then again --- as someone who went to college to escape a religious nutcase fam, maybe they have a point?

Anyways I feel like a bad person for having these thoughts and not being an unconditional ally. But I mean, this website is just a niche retard corner of the internet where we can say anything right? I will still make fun of people who eat shit from plates (guess which thread I lurked b4 joining) because they eat shit from plates, I will still make fun of Chris-Chan for... being Chris Chan. Transitioning is just an accessory to their personality I guess.
I don't care what they do in the bedroom, even if I think they made dumb decisions with their lives. Not every thought contributes to whether you're a good or a bad person. TRAs like to pretend it does though, which is why their movement is so gross and insidious. (This thought delusion is also common in many mental health issues.) The concept of wrongthink helpfully shuts down any dissent. You either toe the line completely, or you're a bigot.

After a long time of being a "good person" with the "right thoughts," I had some good-faith scientifically-based questions. Asking them to my friends automatically made me a bigot. And that's when I realized it's a cult and I headed for greener farms.

Nothing about me has changed. I wasn't innately "good" before and I'm not innately "bad" now. It's just that I don't let myself get emotionally exploited by people who project their own mental health issues onto others.

Edit to add: you'll also find a lot of people on KF are LGB with nowhere else to go (irl or online) where they can say shit like "lesbians don't like dick" without getting banned and called a transphobe.

They will entertain my "wrongthink" on some things, and for my part even if we disagree I dont pressure them to think the way I do because I know they just wont.
I want to be a nice person, regardless. I don't want my friends to die. A friend's friend who was trans committed suicide about a year ago and it's kind of wrecked her and everyone else on campus. Even if the person who died was evil and a groomer ideologue or whatever, he was just 19. That's too young to put yourself in a position that can't be changed for good. I can't call myself a hateful person for this reason, and others.
I also think it's bad to assume that lolcows and other internet funny people represent everyone. There are retards in real life, sure, but they aren't my friends. My friends are different, and their lives matter.
Anyways I don't really know what my point is. I just wanted to share my perspective which I think is grounded in reality.

Don't live and die by being "nice". Act in accordance to actual principles and desire to do good and stand by the truth. Don't let people hang suicide over your head for how you should act. Losing a friend is awful but it's also awful to emotionally manipulate others by threatening, implicitly or explicitly, that you will harm yourself if people think or act in certain ways. Don't let volatile emotions and insecurities dictate how you think and how you live. This goes for any relationship of any sort you'll ever have. That's my two cents.

You sound like a sincerely kind and caring person. I'm not gonna tell you you're misinterpreting your own feelings, but I would exhort you to guard your heart and set boundaries.

Unless you're a doctor, therapist, pastor, or parent or legal guardian, it is not your job to save or cure people who are mentally or emotionally volatile, trans or otherwise. I tried to be nice and "fix" people whom either I couldn't or they didn't want to "fix" for far too long.

Guard your heart. Know your limitations. Set boundaries. It may prevent you from becoming a jaded, cynical prick like me. Wackos and narcissists love to prey on nice people like you.

It's sort of hard to say. I find it impossible to speak with any specificity about what I think the average, majority, or given percent of society is that feels a certain way about a certain topic, but I do feel like the needle has been moving a bit. To what extent, I'm not sure, and I'm wary of the selection bias in polls, but I do feel like a nonzero amount of change is happening.

Welcome to the farms.
I have LGB and T friends too. They are wonderful people, albeit a little naive sometimes (swallowing leftist propaganda). I want them to thrive and live happy lives. We have to remember the ones featured on this site are the bottom of the barrel.
Then again especially the T among my friends are seriously mentally ill, they stand out in the rainbow crowd like a sore thumb. I see their views as something they desperately cling to to rationalize their delusions. ("I was never happy in my boy body, so I must have a woman brain")
And in a sense, I see telling a friend "you're not a real woman" is like telling someone "you're fat" constantly. It might be true, but you still make someone sad or upset with it. And while I don't support hormones and SRS as a solution to the trans/dysphoria problem, I don't change how this is dealt with when I keep pointing my friends attention to the fact they're "broken".
I can have a critical view on the current state of trans healthcare overall and still be a friend that doesn't have to mention this all the time. My friends are still lovely human beings and I'd hate to see them suffer.
I don't say yes to every delusion the T friends come up with, though. I voice my concerns. But discussing in good faith shouldn't boot you from the group - if it does, you should definitely leave.
