She's literally asking in all caps (which is shouting on the internet), and then tries to act like she was being 100% polite and rational when people respond to her in a polite, rational way, and she just keeps flipping the fuck out.

Yeah, nah.

Pretty sure she's written like, 13456789097 attention-whorey posts on Why JKR Is A -phobic/-ist Bitch and it's always the same result. She writes them in the most aggressive and bitchy manner, throws a tittyfit when she's told that JKR doesn't owe her shit, keeps screaming and crying ad infinitum, yadda yadda. And in the middle, she either ignores or screeches at the minorities that tell her to stop talking over them.

Holy god, is this person annoying. Considering these books were largely about teenagers, having many openly gay/bi/trans/whatever characters would have been incredibly odd. When these books, especially when the later ones were coming out, there weren't very many of my peers (who were about the same age as Harry in the books) who were openly gay/trans irl. And by the time Harry and co. were to the age of understanding these issues, they were literally in the middle of a war.

And JKR did write about disabilities. Mad Eye Moody was missing a leg and an eye, Neville arguably had learning disabilities, and the fact that squibs existed counts as a disability. The Weasley's were dirt poor. Harry spent the 5th book being ridiculed and belittled by the wizarding government, media, and community, which caused him extreme emotional distress. It would be enough to drive anyone mad.

These books touched on real world issues like racism and media corruption in a different way that fit in with the universe that was set up. One of the only instances of actual racism as is evident in our world is when Pansy insulted Angelina's dreaded or braided hair by saying it looked like worms. Everything else was in the context of pureblood vs muggle born/half-humans, and the fact that magical creatures like goblins, house elves, and centaurs weren't allowed wands and weren't recognized as equal to wizards. And it all worked.

Looking back, I would have liked to see more information about Dumbledore's true feelings for Grindelwald. The fact that she claimed all of this after the books had been written was a bit lazy. But that's kind of it. There were loads of characters in the series and the fact that JKR didn't list the race/ethnicity/blood status/sexuality/gender of every character isn't a slight to her writing at all. She went above and beyond to comment on the oppression of certain classes of wizards and other creatures in a way that was true to the universe she created.

Not to mention the story takes place from the late 80's to the late 90's. Things weren't as bad as they were in previous decades but it still a wasn't great time for LGBT people. The AIDS epidemic was wiping out gay guys, anti-LGBT sentiment was on the rise, and the Conservative party was passing legislation that forbade authorities from talking about homosexuality in any positive way. A kid growing up during those years probably wasn't going to be waving rainbow flags and telling everyone what a nancy boy they were.

That's one thing that might be touched on in Fantastic Beasts, so I think she's making up for it. But I don't really blame her for mentioning it after the fact; Dumbledore's feelings for Grindelwald weren't essential to the story at hand. And honestly, we barely knew anything about Grindelwald aside from the fact he was Wizard Hitler, so it's not really surprising that Dumbledore wouldn't tell Harry "Hell yeah, I fucked Wizard Hitler."

Werewolves as a whole were a representation of the AIDS crisis; Lupin was the obvious example, since he was ostracized and self-conscious throughout the entire series, but Fenrir Greyback, I've heard--though this may be a fan interpretation--was an example of people who purposely infected others with HIV as a power play.

Shit got super deep at times, but Tumblr only cares that this series intended for children and young adults doesn't explicitly mention Pavarti and Lavender scissoring each other and black Hermione hand-flapping.

Fair points. Lupin and the other werewolves very much could have been synonymous to the AIDs epidemic during the time that the books were set. Plus the fact that Bill Weasley was maimed by Fenrir and his family, friends, and fiancee were all concerned about how 'werewolf-ish' he would be and what that meant for his future. The fact that Fleur proudly stood with Bill showed a true evolution in her character as well, even though he was horribly disfigured. Again, another disability that was overlooked by FandomsAndFeminism.

And while we're talking about disabilities, we have the Longbottom's and Lockhart whose brains were permanently altered by magic to the point of having the capacity of actual children (and that Neville presumably kept every bit of 'trash' that his parents gave him in hopes that they recognized him and treated them as precious gifts, again someone who is willing to overlook a disability).

And then we have the fact that Harry was emotionally and physically abused by his aunt and uncle growing up that he was starved, forced to live in a cupboard under the stairs, deprived of information about his parents and that he was a wizard, and the isolation they created by locking up his owl (and only source of contact to his friends and wizarding world). Then we have Hermione being tortured by Bellatrix, and that Draco grew up only knowing the hateful views of his parents until he wisened up and tried to thwart Voldemort in every minuscule way that he could while protecting his family.

It's almost as if this person never read the books. How could one overlook all of these things? Well, it's just because they wanted to read Sirius/Lupin slash fic, apparently.

I do agree that Dumbledore's feelings towards Grindelwald weren't important to the story, through Harry's eyes. It just would have really cemented Dumbledore's sexuality in the original series. The fact that he would be willing to be another Wizard Hitler because the man he loved believed that wizards were the rightful ruling class, that he would be wiling the adapt these views as well. I think it could have been included in the original series, but JKR is trying to make up for it, so power to her.

Not even that. She disguised herself as a boy so that the people at the Garrison Academy wouldn't realize she was that girl who hacked their computer systems while she was trying to find out what happened to her dad and brother. That she became a Paladin was an unexpected outcome of her search for her family.

Also, in the pilot episode, she repeatedly refers to herself in the feminine when she thinks nobody will hear her. For instance: "Katie Rose has left the stage!"

I wish they would respect her pronouns, yo.

(All right, so I watched it. I have kids, and I'm a lifelong nerd.)

Sir/Madam/Snowflake, I respectfully disagree. "King of Beasts Go Lion!" and the original Voltron were great (even though Voltron was heavily edited and rewritten to reduce violence and death). As such, I would have been very upset if the netflix series wasn't at least decent. I'm only disappointed that the black paladin didn't die like he did in the original, but it is its own series after all. Hell, Earth wasn't even nuked to oblivion in the first episode! Boy, nothing sets a tone for heroic robot-fusing cartoons like watching a baby evaporate in nuclear fire.


EDITED FOR BONUS AUTISM: Actually, there's a side character that I think is interesting to look at from a tumblr perspective. There's a guy named Coran. In the original, he's a badass mustached man in a trenchcoat that makes the hard calls and pushes elderly women in front of gunfire. In the new version, he's a goofy comedic relief character. I guess they detoxed his masculinity? Oh, and the princess got a LOT browner.
