Pokémon (Not-So) Griefing Thread - Scarlet and Violet Released with 10 Million Copies in First 3 Days in Buggy States

It’s using the original XY model, and the Mega is animated poorly in the trailer. For half the fucking thing you can see the model moving forward in mid-air. They couldn’t even be bothered to take 5 seconds to make it hit the ground before moving first
None of this is updated work.
I loved the bounces personally, but I can see why this design would be a turn-off.

I never used Victeribel in the 3ds games, but I always did fancy the more goofy mon designs .

I'm also picking Tepig

Yeah it's the same model (if it ain't broke don't fix it, y'know?) but the animations do look better. That was, like, all of Legends Arceus, too... Same models, but more lively animation.

I think you're just hurt because it's victreebel.

Of course I'm hurt because it's Victreebel. How would you like it if one of your favorites got shat on with a complete joke of a design that looks questionable at best and outright fetishistic at worst? The animations are lively, sure, but not in a good way. Why does it need to fucking jiggle around. I understand that it's supposed to be full up of venom, but the way it moves is just uncomfortable, like a swollen balloon struggling not to pop. The design is already painful enough to look at-- when you make its most memorable animation a giant torrent of vomit, and specifically go out of your way to describe how everything this thing feels is painful and unpleasant, to the point where its lips are swollen and it needs to strangle itself to survive, the jiggling looks a lot less endearing and a lot more disgusting.

Imagine if, instead of just being a stupid meme, Starmie's Mega also had 16 limbs and a cracked gem. Its flavor text talks about how it has too many limbs to properly control, and it's overflowing with so much energy that its core (the red gem in the center) is starting to deteriorate. This deterioration makes it exceptionally violent, unable to make measured decisions due to having the alien equivalent of brain damage, and all its animations involve it spewing energy out of its core or fumbling over its excess limbs. That would be fucking horrible, but people would laugh at it and consider it hilarious because its design would mostly amount to "Starmie with longer legs" when you take away the gem and extra limbs. They'd make comparisons to Starman and talk about how "ugly-cute" it is. It'd develop a parallel fanbase, mostly consisting of the types of people who think pugs are adorable, and every time you tried to talk about how much you like Starmie you'd inevitably get someone bringing up its mega.

It happened with Slowbro, it happened with Ampharos even though I like that one, it happened with Mr. Mime and Kingler. I'm very sick of Gamefreak sacrificing unloved designs at the altar of marketing for the sake of memes, and especially sick of the fans trying to gaslight people into thinking these designs are actually genius just because Gamefreak explains the horrible reasoning for their terrible design decisions.

Does anyone get the feeling that the design might've originally been for a gigantamax?

Because I'm seriously getting that vibe here.

Edit: This video makes it look much cooler. If anything, it shows that Gamefreak is at least aware of how fucked up the thing looks, and that it belongs more in a Pokemon horror game than a regular mainline one.

It really feels like they're intentionally shitting on the fans. Come on.

I have felt this way about literally every single mega evolution design since 2013.

Every single one of them takes a preexisting design that you already liked (or were at least okay with) and twists it to become a goofy, messy, over-designed caricature of its former self.
Hate 'em. Don't use 'em. Simple as.

The only one that looks even remotely close to "good" is mega Manectric, but that design should've just been a 3rd-stage evolution. And now that line will almost certainly never get a 3rd stage. So I hate the mega even more.

I don't entirely hate it, sure it looks dumb, but so does regular Victreebel. That said, I agree that they should've done away with the edgy "going Mega makes pokeymens suffah" shit they started in gen 7.

And the leaks are undeniably real at this point. Let me remind you of what we're in for:

Actual Gigantamax-tier designs. Just pick something from the Pokemon's design and make it bigger.

My favorite literally never gets used. It didn't get any love, or merch, until the galar variant. I wasn't tryingnto come across as condescending, it's just I think it's coloring everything overall for you. And I'm not saying it shouldn't, or that you shouldn't feel bad, it's just... Take a step back, y'know? Wait it out.

Fuck, I just realized why this thing looks so weird and uncomfortable. It's shaped and positioned exactly like that one fetish image people would bait-post on 4chan of that guy sitting inside a big inflated balloon with his sticking out the top.
And its leaves are wilting from how it's asphyxiating itself, yes.

I don't have a problem with the fat fuck. He's a poison type, and one from the first Generations of Pokemon to boot. You know where Weezing, Muk, Gloom, Tentacruel, Golbat and Nidoking were all introduced? Poison types are gross, nasty, generally unpleasant and typically, used by the bad guys. I don't really see the problem with this design, it's prefectly in line with the type. Honestly I prefer a funny fat guy for a Mega, over Edgy McCoolguy #231 or just slapping tribal tattoos on a Pokemon and calling it a day.

What I'm more interested in is how he plays. They mentioned how Victreebel can melt steel beams, and his little trailer shows him attacking Bug Types and inflicting what I think is confusion on them? Either they're just gonna give him Corrosion or some new ability. Maybe something affects specifically Bug and Steel? I'm certainly interested in that part.

On a more serious note, I think the problem is that the first three generations of Pokemon have that very classic JRPG look to them back when game freak was trying to ape Toriyama's Dragon Quest vibe.

Many of the mons were caricatures of animals, Kaiju,or Japanese Legends and because of the hardware were made to be incredibly simplistic, but GF has drastically changed their design philosophy since then and the Pokemon have got an even more and out there with the common final starter evolution for example now being based off of several different ideas at once.

Charizard is basically just a dragon but Skelidirge is a Mexican - Nile crocodile who's also based on a mariachi player and has elements of the Day of the Dead.

On top of that Mega evolution as a concept doesn't really have a strong foundation the way that some later gimmicks do.

Gmax basically just enlarges a specific aspect of a Pokemon, z moves are basically limit break versions of regular Pokemon moves / signature moves, and Terra has the jewelry imagery.

Megas are basically just a Pokemon going Super Saiyan, but what that means for the design can basically be anything.

Victeribel is already pretty out there for generation 1 standards and so I'm legitimately nothing what they could have done with it outside of maybe making it more early in life or like Audrey II from Little shop of Horrors.

I remember during the oras days Slowbro and Swampert caught a little bit of flack because of how weird the designs for their megas were too.
