I loved the idea behind ORC both story wise and gameplay wise. I did think it got caught up on the whole you can kill the heroes thing but the idea of being Umbrella goons trying to clean up evidence was great. I also loved the idea of having a firefight with hostile monsters in the mix. Also, on that note, Operation Raccoon City could have been good. Unfortunately, it turned into a case of "good concept, poor execution".
>talks about Super Paper Mario being the worst Mario RPGAs a person who really doesn't defend a bit of the "bad Nintendo games" like Brawl, I still don't get how one certain game on the Wii was not critically panned and also considered a bigger black sheep than the next two.
Long winded rant below.
While I do like action RPGS that aren't heavily reliant on turn bases, or ones that make it flashy or very interesting, thanks to loving Paper Mario and the Mario And Luigi RPG series, I think Super Paper Mario is the worst in the series. I can only think of maybe... two songs that I can hum, but only one of those songs? It's just a certain part (I remember the song being used in a sunset area and it made me think of Petalburg Meadows in TTYD.) The other song is Mr. L's theme. The action commands in the first two were simple: Press A once you jump on an enemy to jump on it again, and with hammers, hold back for an amount of time until the star on the meter was lit up and let go. This one? Well the hammer is now relegated to a partner, but I only excuse this because of how little buttons there were on the Wii Remote, and this was on the Gamecube at first. But the one thing I will never get over was how overpowered Bowser was. Oh right, action commands. I found out way too late in the game (like, chapter 7 I think? There was something about Mario going to hell or something. I'll get to that in a minute) that it wasn't like it would be in an actual sidescrolling Mario platformer where you can bounce on someone if you hold the jump button to go higher, and then again. Then I thought "maybe action commands are in this game!" Even doing it frame perfect didn't help. One boss I accidentally shook the Wii Remote in my hands because I thought I died but didn't, and ended up hitting him and then I saw "NICE" pop up.
Shaking, instead of pressing the jump button, lets you do action commands. And I found it on accident with a copy of the game that had no instructions. I thought it'd be similar despite knowing the differences. This was also a time of no electronic manuals, but also a transitional phase of no manuals (which I miss! I loved seeing all the cool art in old manuals, especially the 3D renders of characters.) so there was no way I would've known this. There was no tutorial like usual where it tells me basic functions (and even in TTYD, it told you that there was a new way to guard, or in this case counter, and even told you about things you can and can't counter.) other than "jump on it until it dies" and that was it. I can't even say it's "Super Mario Bros. but with a health bar." It's so different in terms of gameplay, that I'm surprised it's not the most hated, kind of like how recently, Mario 3D Land and World are getting hated because people think that 3D Mario with 2D platforming goals was not a good idea. I legitimately think that the only good strong suit for this game is the characters and the dialogue. Francis is every otaku and honestly houses one of my favorite images to use on 4chan, especially /v/. Tippi is a great balance between voice of reason and comic relief. Bowser is as hilarious as ever in a Mario RPG. Peach is actually shown to be a lot stronger and more independent than we think. And even the villains are memorable because of how their designs were. O'Chunks had Scottish and Wrestling influence, Mimi was honestly the most nightmare fuel I've seen in just Mario, and even Dimentio is great as a villain considering he's honestly quite a tough early game boss.
I really have to wonder about what the hell happened to that series after A Thousand Year Door. I would've written off SPM as a fluke, but then they followed that up with even worse games that are as far from being RPGs as possible. With the Paper Mario series and Metroid these days, I can't help but think that Nintendo has become somewhat tone-deaf in recent years.>talks about Super Paper Mario being the worst Mario RPG
>not a single mention of Sticker Star
While we're talking about Nintendo and tone-deaf in a thread about unpopular opinions...I really have to wonder about what the hell happened to that series after A Thousand Year Door. The saddest thing about Sticker Star was the initial E3 reveal for it. They clearly were going back to it's roots with a proper RPG system with partners to boot. Then the next E3 came and it was "lol sticker gimmick".I really have to wonder about what the hell happened to that series after A Thousand Year Door. Colour Splash is only marginally better. And with marginally I mean it has jokes that aren't about paper and decent graphics. The saddest thing about Sticker Star was the initial E3 reveal for it. I want to see a Paper Mario like the first Paper Mario.
I heard that Miyamoto was the one who "advised" the developers to make the game different and have less story (he interpreted people's complaints about SPM being long-winded at times as them wanting zero story). Apparently, the initial reveal was "too similar" to TTYD for his liking, even though fans have been clamoring for a return to that gameplay. The saddest thing about Sticker Star was the initial E3 reveal for it. There's not enough quotes around that 'unique'.That and the news that the Mario & Luigi series is going to be the "pure" RPG series (because fuck having two different RPG series') while PM remains the guinea pig for "unique" ideas pretty much kills any hope that I had for the series to get back on track in the near future.
I'm not sure how the fuck that's possible because Super Paper Mario barely even had a story. You walked around for four levels, fought a boss, and got a big exposition dump. If you wanted the background info (which wound up being barely related to the main story), you had to search it out. At least TYD had enough decency to give the broad outline of the incident 1,000 years prior with the option to find out the details if you wanted them.less story
Competitive players should never fucking play Smash if they want to actually be competitive rather than whiny autists who remove most of the game so they don't suck shit. You pick SNK or whatever for that.I think SSB Melee is fucking overrated and there are better fighters/party brawlers out there. Sm4sh is better, imo, and the competitive playerbase needs to calm their :autism:
Street Fighter V has some issues, but it's still a pretty dang good fighter.
CS 1.6 had better positional audio than GO, but GO is still fun.
The original Deus Ex was the best one.
It's fine if we don't get another Darkstalkers game.
Morrigan worst Darkstalkers girl, Felicia is best.
You're not the first person I've met who has mentioned that one of the only games your family could afford back then was Fester's Quest. Unless you're the same guy.:late:
This is not necessarily about Pac-Man on the Atari 2600 because my first console was the NES, but I was relatively poor growing up, so my family could generally only afford the bargain-basement games, which unbeknownst to my U-10-13 self, were generally buggy or industry rejects. Imagine having Fester's Quest and Friday the 13th comprising 20% of your games and feeling bad because you weren't good enough to beat them.

I sort of enjoy the Call of Duty games unironically, at least the original trilogy and the Modern Warfare series.
While I admit that Call of Duty has a horrible fanbase of autists and dudebros, and I avoid the multiplayer mode like the plague, I actually sort of liked the Campaign Mode stories of the Modern Warfare trilogy. Also, I enjoyed World at War and the first Black Ops game's campaigns as well.
I could not get over the fact it turned into a spray-and-pray combat system where you mow down necromorphs by the dozen, the notion microtransaction vacuum cleaners even exist, and most of all that Isaac and the other dude were fighting over newly-busty Ellie (to quote Krusty, "Does anybody hear me complaining about the breasts?") like a couple of limp-wristed middle-schoolers through the whole damned campaign.I thought that Dead Space 3, while sort of dragging on near the end, was a good game, and a satisfying conclusion to the series. While it was more action-focused, it still had great atmosphere, especially on Tau Volantis. Not as good as 2, but it's still a good sequel.
