Well, I did enjoy TFA and definitely Rogue One, despite their flaws, so here's to victory #3. I
haven't seen the trailer yet - but I will eventually.

EDIT - I just did. BRING IT ON!!!

The trailer is deliberately vague, but what it shows looks good in a purely visual way. The poster is aesthetically pleasing.

I don't mind repetitiveness in the plotlines because I honestly believe that it's intended not just as a way to cash in on our affection for the original trilogy, but because, to borrow an oft-repeated line from a different space opera, "This has all happened before and it will happen again." Stories are cyclical as a commentary on not just the concept of destiny as a story-telling device, but because human beings very often forget our own mistakes and repeat them. Star Wars is all about not just destiny, but the way one person's decision can affect the fate of millions, and how a person can be motivated to make good or bad decisions without ever really considering the larger consequences.

I saw an interesting theory about the title that says something about The Last Jedi referring to Luke realizing that the absolute light and dark ideology of the Jedi and Sith are the issue, not just the dark side. So with that said, he might push Rey to become something in between, into a new type of force user; something akin to true Nuetral in D&D.

My personal hope is the Force philosophy is going back to its Daoist roots where "dark side" is a way of mind and not an Evil Alignment. Luke is telling Rey and by extension the audience Good and Evil were never the point of the Force in first place. Hence the "there's so much more" comment.

I hope that, too, but it seems unlikely. The sense of moral ambiguity kind of went out the window when Anakin went Dark and murdered everyone, ever. The audience itself has grown to associate the Dark Side with evil, because we keep being presented with its practitioners as the perpetrators of mass murder and genocide. Obviously, it was there from the beginning, with the destruction of Alderaan, but then with the prequels, you saw that Anakin was just straight up murdering people before he was even Darth Vader.

Can't wait for Luke Slavwalker to lecture Rey on how it was actually Jedi ideology, not Sith, that Anakin had in mind when he slaughtered those younglings

Ending the Jedis sounds like a really bad idea.

It may not be the Jedi's demise though. Luke is probably so jaded from having his order getting destroyed by Kylo Ren that he feels like there's no hope for the Jedi to ever come back. It also doesn't help that the new Jedi barely got off the ground in the first place either. Maybe at some point in the film he'll come to realize that the Jedi must continue, likely through Rey's help.

Of course this is only speculation at this point. We won't know until either the film releases or when the leaks start pouring out plot details.
