Plato was applauded for his definition of man as a featherless biped, so Diogenes the Cynic “plucked the feathers from a cock, brought it to Plato’s school, and said, ‘Here is Plato’s man.’ ”
Every troon argument is this. Same logic, if you can kludge together a way that the troon meets some arbitary definition of "woman", then they must be one in reality, in the same way that a plucked chicken must be a man based on Plato's definition. This problem is foundational to the philosophy of science, the problem of defining ontological (or "natural") kinds, In keeping with troon thinking, they believe that they have come up with the one weird trick philosophers don't want you to know about, and argue that because determining a necessary and sufficient essential definition of man and woman is hard, there must be no difference between them, reductio ad absurdum. This is a logical fallacy, mistaking the failure of essentialism with the nonexistence of kinds.
But alternate definitions exist, and with biology in particular, one very influential construct is the idea of homeostatic property clusters. This basically says that things like species or sex are defined not by any essential set of traits, but by a cluster of properties that are
usually possessed by members of that kind, and crucially, whose co-occurrence is maintained by
underlying homeostatic mechanisms. Like I said previously, male and female, and the ability to differentiate between them, is something that exists in humans prior to words and symbols. They emerge from the same underlying causal mechanism, the developmental pathways that humans have evolved, with the case of sex literally over hundreds of millions of years. Variation in the exact details of man and women are irrelevant, what makes you one or the other is the causal mechanisms that determined the outcome that is you, something that even if surgery were to become much better still would not change. It doesn't matter how much you mutilate your body and fuck up your endocrinology, a human that developed as a male can never be female.
