hbomberguy / Harry "Harris" Brewis / Slazenger Rapemachine Whiteshaf - "Rational" SJW, former SA goon/LPer, sexual harassment apologist, raised $350K+ for child abuse cult

I was only pretending to be re-tarded!

When I act over the top and snarky I'm clearly doing it for the lulz. When people I don't like do it, they're being 100% serious!

Fortunately for the rest of us, Mattew Matosis is not buying his bullshit, so it's highly unlikely that HBomb will ever get proper acknowledgement from him.

In his stupid "tit ninja" video his retort to "video games don't need a good story" is "HEART OF DARKNESS [the book] DIDN'T NEED A GOOD STORY EITHER BUT IT HAD ONE AND THAT'S WHY IT'S GREAT" which completely ignores the actual idea behind the statement, that games are a medium of their own and NEED a story about as much as chess or mahjong NEEDS a story. It's not bad if it has one and "hadrcore gamers" are not against non-shit story-games like Planescape: Torment so his whole argument is a ridiculous strawman.

In the same video he makes it clear he wants games to be "truly an artistic medium" not for the things that make them unique but for the things that he thinks will appeal to people who don't actually like games and give his hobby validity. Nothing he says about why "God of War is TRULY ART NOW" has anything to do with interactive mechanics and everything to do with what sounds like an extremely cliche way of making something "artistic" (walky-talky game about feelings where you're a dad!) and god fucking knows maybe the game is amazing, I've not looked deeply into it so correct me if I'm wrong, but he made it sound like the lamest most pandering thing imaginable.

The accuser apparently deleted their whole tumblr and I can't find them again, so I'm free to post (hopefully). I posted before about how they helped write that script and went to go dig out my saved copy to double check, and it looks like a lot of their work was cut from the final script. A few pieces really show off how different their view of it was. Like this one;

but [Bayonetta's] empowered strictly within the confines of a straight male fantasy. [change to: But her empowerment still fits neatly within the confines of a straight male sexual fantasy.]
From the formatting it's clear Hbomberguy wrote the first sentence and his buddy wrote the correction, which doesn't show up in the final video. There's some references about how Bayonetta was designed by a woman and how she designed the male characters in the same way too. It comes across like the guy wanted to legitimately explore some issues with sexualization in general, but Hbomberguy cut out anything that came across as gay or male sexualization to whine about his love of Bayonetta, surprise surprise. Considering what he's uploading now it's pretty clear Hbomberguy can't write worth a crap to begin with and is using popular opinion from his friends circles as a substitute for critical thinking.

I know nothing about FirstAidKite but he's overreacting a bit to his experiences with hbomb. I mean, there's something about the fact he thought "hbomb wanted to share fanworks I did years ago with our friends" was comparable to "hbomb revealed himself to be a sexual harassment apologist" that doesn't sit right with me.

Also:
hbomb kept [...] trying to share it with all of our mutual friends as a means of making me a "better person" because it was "for my own good" that he did this and that I should be thankful to him
I'm sorry but I doubt hbomb was whipping out this fucking villain-type dialogue about someone's old d&d RP. That's the sorta thing that gets passed around as vaguely-embarrassing cringe content and then gets forgotten about once the next vaguely-embarrassing tidbit about a friend comes out to laugh at.

Mind you I do believe that that entire social group (any social group with hbomb in it) has the capacity to be filled with assholes, it's just this particular anecdote that seems exaggerated

I imagine any kind of interaction, especially jokes, in SJ groups is remembered forever. If somebody ends up not liking you for some reason, your interactions can be freely redefined as rape threats/apologism or whatever, obligating everybody to shun you.

Sounds like a horrible way to live, and hbomb's rational/sceptical side may have just made its doomed last stand when some koolaid-saturated broke-brain made those demands of him, calling his buddy a rapist. He could have stuck to his guns and walked away, but I imagine this struggle session is going to end with him fully assimilated at the bottom of the progressive stack.

E: I'll still call him a rape apologist though, taste of his own medicine and all that.

His Fallout 3 and gaming videos actually annoy me because they're part of the reason he's so popular - he reels people in with well-made apolitical content like video game reviews, and having established that he's rational and measured guy when it comes to those, it softens them up to be more accepting of his political content. I don't know if that tactic was intentional, but it's very effective. You only have to look at the number of people in this thread saying "Man, I liked this guy. His Fallout 3 video was so good!" to realise how successful he's been at creating the illusion he's a smart guy.
Honestly, his Fallout 3 video seems like the perfect maelstrom of things that would make a name for him though whether or not he expected all of this is unclear. After Fallout 4 came out, basically everyone was disillusioned and upset with the design choices (except the most normie of normies) and then here comes this long (also known as bloated), in-depth (theoretically) (pseudo-)analysis explaining that everything you hated in the new game was there in the old one, now it's just worse!(This was likely why it was voted in instead of Dark Souls 2) The sauntering about the CRPG elements really seems more like a lead-in for what most of the video is- complaining about the writing. It's a essentially a hook for anyone disappointed in 4.
And so Hbomberguy's video rose to the top on reactionary hatred and propped up by websites like NMA and RPG Codex who are glad that the shit they've been saying all this time (although bastardized and tangentially worded for waves of Reddit retards) is being said again, now with a ton of traction. The relatively modest (compared to things like Joseph Andersons's videos) but still girthy length, clickbait title, lack of technical analysis (besides the completely bullshit non-point on the compass, the video is mostly "here why the writing is bad D:<" with varying degrees of explanation), and just being in the right time and place all lead to a massive of success of a video that will forever be posted as an argument in Internet forums because "its long therefore its smart"

Sorry for the minor spergout.

Is there a rule about posting stuff on behalf of other people? A got a message from a newly created (empty) tumblr blog with these and nothing else. I'm not sure if these are supposed to make them look good or what but I'll leave em here for everyone. Whatever keeps the thread going!

edit - going to see if I can ply some details out of them or what.

edit 2- They gave me their skype account name and I got this out of them. Not sure if any of it is verifiable or not but this is what they said about it all.

New video

Pretty bog standard.
-playing devils advocate for an unpopular game.
-too much time wasted on bad jokes/skits, which really fuck up the flow
-some insight mixed with subjective shit which means you have to pay more attention than should be neccisary
-awkward snark about Jontron, which feels really wedged in.
-growing awareness he's one ugly motherfucker
-I keep thinking on how much better at this fitzthistlewits was

The video was okay, apart from the JonTron bit which made me want to break something. It felt very out of place where he put it. It's like he was saying to himself: "I could just make a video about the game without drudging up a controversy which has mostly blown over now... Nah! I need those sweet, sweet SJW bux."

The joke he made about Jon isn't even a new one. Him and his pals have been bandying that around on Twitter for the past couple of months because one of them making a decent joke is such a rare event they need to stretch its lifespan out as long as possible. I find it kind of funny he says Jon is best at making incoherent noises, especially since he cited Jon as an inspiration. Guess we know where you got that skill from eh Harry?

My main criticism of Dark Souls, from what videos I've seen of it, is that characters fight incredibly sluggishly and heave their weapons around like they're made of solid lead. Close combat is fast, and the heaviest 2 hand swords were only about 3kg. It makes them look like unskilled weaklings.

This is definitely a trend with From Software games that gets treated like the worst shit in the world in their old games yet a quality in the new ones. It was really weird to see them go from turbo-niche /v/ autism material (the amount of shit their old dungeon crawlers like King's Field got from game journos was nuts) to something every woke Twitter liberal hipster HAS to love.

The From game I'm most interested in playing through in its entirety right now, though, is Shadow Tower on PS1. Look at all these wacky fucking creatures: http://zodar.tumblr.com/post/72752140306/let-it-be-known-that-shadow-tower-psx-has-one-of

If i may counter sperg about Hbomber Yooka laylee video:

1-"Controls just feel good"

Why 98% youtube game "critics" love to say shit like this? It's always a feew compliments and a final "It just feels good", which means nothing for those who haven't played. Yooka has an input lag that takes a while to adapt and the rolling form is harder to use than Kazooie walk's that gave you full control with no sliding. Stamina bar is there just for the sake of having challenges that you need to get stamina refills on the way to complete, outside of those it's just an annoyance because you can't roll all the time.

2-The LoTR shadows of mordor "joke" is unfunny and goes for too long.

"Haha you hold foward + A and the character will jump and climb AUTOMATICALLY, haha this is dumb and takes no skill am i right? That's not even REAL gameplay!"-for +30 seconds

This is a shitty strawman argument. AC and Lotr aren't aren't platformers Harry, they're not about doing precise jumps. Would you rather have to press A and manually aim for every brick you need to climb?

3-"Purposeful controls, for the first time in ages i press jump and moving to where i wanted to move my own abilities to control the character!"

This reminds of Hbomber bloodborne video where he talks about how it has REAL(tm) diffulty because you have REAL(tm) control over your character. This isn't a BB thing Harry, this is a thing every videogame has. Yooka laylee really isn't any different from any other platformer, it's not something modern games need to "learn" from it. This is a shitty argument that can be twisted and applied on favor of everything you want to defend.

overall: really really weak video. For a video called "What can we LEARN from YL", nothing of real value was got from it. Screen transitions? They're basically teleport in Yooka Laylee, other games already have fast travel and shortcuts anyway. "Purposeful" controls? This is vague bullshit that doesn't mean anything, Yooka controls aren't more special than any platformer. Actual level design? This is an obvious thing that every game already strives for, Yooka not having a map isn't something games should "learn from".

tl;dr: Vague and flawed arguments that can be applied to any game you want. Yooka isn't unique or excel in anyting he said that other platformers like Mario don't. He probably only did this video because he is a contrarian who likes to sound smart defending a unpopular game.

That's the point tho, your main character is some random undead with zero combat experience (obvious by how awkardly they swing) while the bosses are all badasses with sick moves, it makes you feel weak so when you win it feels more "rewarding". It's intentionally slow because you can't dodge cancel your attacks like other action games but your enemies are slow too, making it more about finding opening than doing combos.

Even a complete novice wouldn't move that slowly, though. They'd be sloppy and unskilled, but still fast if they were fighting for their life. It just looks like everything is far too heavy for people to use properly.

I'd love for there to be a game with a controller like a sword hilt where you could attack and defend in real time, but I understand that would be hard to make.
