The realities of being trans

That's honestly new shit to me, I was expecting some revisionist history fuckery but this is actual information and I will have to say thank you for it and take it in to account as I reassess the situation as to come at it from a more informed angle

here's some more stuff on it, if you want it. the concept of a third gender is kind of different from what might be recognized as transgender/transsexual in a modern context. there's also more recent but still historical records of people who were or might have been trans (ie albert cashier from the mid 1800s, billy tipton in the 1930s). i hope this helps some if you decide to check it out

Also, there are chromosome disorders where say you have someone who has the body of a female -- outwardly, vaj, boobs, etc -- but actually has an XY chromosome. There are people who are intersex. It's not as simple as XX/XY.

I don't think it's something a person chooses -- it's definitely something in the brain*. And quite frankly, it's not hurting me, and if that's what it takes to make you happy, hey, go for it. It beats smoking crack.

*Seriously, why would you WANT to be trans? That would suck.

Sexual dimorphism in humans requires sperm from someone with an Y chromosome and an egg from someone with an X. IMO factory defect intersexes like klinefelters and CAIS and whatnot don't count as genders because they're usually sterile, and the handful that aren't function as an X or Y depending on their configuration.

I'm saying this as a trans person fully aware I'm technically biologically male for reproductive purposes.

(On a serious note though, trans people are usually happier if they transition. Happy people kill themselves less often.)

We need some actual data on this, because so far as I've seen, while trannies who get SRS often state satisfaction with the results, I've seen contrary evidence that as time goes on, they still continue to commit suicide at equal or even increased rates afterwards.

yeah, the suicide rate statistics are from pre-medical transition trans people. it's kind of like how the suicide rates for people with depression are higher for those who aren't taking antidepressants.

I don't have knowledge of the suicide rates for trans people, but re the people with depression: statistically people with depression are most likely to attempt (or succeed in) suicide within the first four weeks of starting antidepressants.

The drugs have kicked in enough that you are capable of the motivation to attempt suicide, but they haven't lifted your mood yet. So you're still suicidal but no longer catatonic enough not to be capable of the attempt.

(This is also one of the soundest reasons why people very close to you should be aware that you started antidepressants.)

oh, yeah, i should've specified. i meant in the long term.
and on that note;

here's a pretty good reddit thread on it with links to studies.
there are a lot of variables here, primarily because it's easier to identify a post-SRS trans person as, well, trans, as opposed to a closeted trans person who hadn't transitioned socially or physically. it's really difficult to get hard numbers. sweden, where the first cited study takes place, also has a relatively high suicide rate (ranking 48 in the world on a 2015 census and number 36 on a multi-year study.)
also, the first study is regularly misquoted and interpreted incorrectly, so here's an interview with the doctor who conducted it (you might find the article slightly biased because it's on a pro-trans site, but it's the only place i can find that talks to the doctor herself.)

Has there been any studies into whether or not the hormone treatment might play a role here? (Depression in cis women is often linked by those treating them to estrogen fluctuations. I've always assumed there's SOME evidence base for that given the regular doling-out of contraceptives, antiandrogens and HRT as part of treatment packages for cis women) There was also some recent handflap in the media following a study that suggested the combined pill affects mood in those who take it.

i'm not finding anything, but it's that's just from a cursory google search. i'm also a little tired so i might be skipping over some stuff. i might check out pubMed later if anybody actually wants me to cite more studies or elaborate.

Ah, I just wondered. I'm not familiar with the literature on depression in trans folks; you clearly are so I was curious to see if that had ever been looked at. I realise synthetic hormone treatment is unavoidable in transition, obviously. Just seems like getting dealt a bad hand if you have to take large doses of mood affecting shit on top of the gender dysphoria and the social issues as well.

The biggest hurdle a passing mtf will face is that straight guys usually arent down to play with penises, or do anal (prison pussy as I call it) when a straight man takes the panties off and is ready to get some, he doesnt wanna see two big testicles greeting him, he wants snatch.

as a (sane, thankfully) trans woman, i think not a lot of people know what's it like to be a trans person, or even what struggles we face daily. It really makes me pissed off when my cis friends think they know everything about transgenderism and think they know whats better for me. I hate how cis people feel the need to stick their shitty opinion in everything. I know more about my body than you do becky, you dumbass slut.

Can we add this to to random.txt? Because it's pretty fucking rare anywhere to see someone just admit that new information is worth investigating and this attitude should be fucking glorified.

I have a friend who is on hormones and wants to be a woman. He is one of the rare troons who likes women but aren't autogynephiles. He is just an effeminate straight man. He is poor as dirt and has a very traumatic past (he cries like every night). Because of girlish looks and behaviour he was always an outsider in his country. He was bullied for years and chased by actual nazis. I really think he has psd.

Because he is so poor - he lives in a disgusting house in a tiny room in a leftist, antifa, sjw community where you are an outsider if you aren't trans, poly and beat your sexual partner to a pulp. You can't imagine the bullshit these people spew. Gender this, gender that, antifa this, antifas that. Sometimes I think I'm going to explode. But I fear these people will get angry at him so I keep my mouth shut.

He lives there because 1. He can pay the rent with the little money he has and 2. these people helped him to immigrate into the country and are his only "friends" besides me.

It's a fucking toxic environment and the house stinks like hell (not his room but everything else). These people encourage him to hate his body and pretend it's normal. He wants to get rid of his dick but on the other hand he told me he is scared shitless. Since he is so poor he told me that he might become a prostitute which I think will fuck him up even more.

He needs a different environment and therapy. But he can't affort either of them. I'm currently trying to teach him techniques to reduce stress and emotional turmoil. This man is sooo fucked.

if he gets rid of his dick, starts dressing as a professional woman with boring taste, hell be able to get a decent enough job to gtfo of there.

even manager at fast food level of money, and a little bit of normalcy as a woman, post-srs, without mentioning she's trans, will get em way further in life.

He should kill himself, there is probably no way that his life could improve, I dont see why society sees suicide as a bad thing.

Because it is really difficult for a reasonable society to justify "you are really weird and we don't know how to deal with you right now, you should probably go away".

The Athenians are generally considered pretty reasonable and that's basically what they told Socrates.
