Yeah I searched for "planished pan" and found a bunch of titanium cookware in the $300 a pan range.

More expensive = more better in the eyes of Nick Rekieta. Even though he'd have been better served with a heavy cast iron, since he clearly couldn't get his temp right to sear his steak properly.

It's a hammered titanium pan, these are typically $150-400 from China which isn't at all cheap by Chinese cookware standards. They are relabeled by many brands and sold at over $300. You can often see them on AliExpress.
If anyone's wondering, Gordon Ramsay's Hexclad is made by the same Chinese factory that makes so called "knockoffs" which are a third of the price. That's a white labelled product as well.

He's just the biggest fucking mark, isn't he? I hope he paid no more than $200 for that thing.

I have a titanium wok I got for free from a friend, it's pretty cool.
Most of these Chinese companies make good cookware but it always falls short on the little things because Chinese cooking doesn't care about pans. They make good pans but they don't use it.
The handle almost universally sucks. A titanium pan is going to weigh around 1-1.5kg, having a round handle on that is just asking for trouble. Companies that specialise in western cookware like Made In offers superior handles.
That's also why a lot of these pans are a "fusion" product, the pan itself is made in China but the handles are made locally.

Titanium for steak just sucks, why even use that? It heats unevenly and has really poor heat retention. It embodies the downsides of every type of pan (except plastic, I guess). It's slow like cast iron, uneven and warps like carbon steel, annoying to clean like stainless steel, expensive like a product with Gordon Ramsay's face on it, it has bad heat retention like a cheap non-stick and develops no chemical non-stick surface (cast iron and carbon steel does that).
Why does it even exist? They're only used for camping because they don't weigh much, that's it. For a steak, cast iron would be far superior. If you have skills, then carbon steel would be nice as well.
It's a gimmick.
