Don't bother with the day/night thing. That is a fast track to burnout. And don't bother with the buying invites, furries are tech-inclined, homosexual and autistic; i.e. wealthy. $20 twenty times is nothing and all they need is one slip-up by staff/admins.

Do it like private torrent trackers. Invitation is by invite only, and if your invitee gets banned, you and your entire invite tree gets banned too. No take-backsies. If it's only temporary before this cocksucker gets thrown in jail, that'll do, otherwise, it stops dipshits from posting invitation for IP (internet points).

Have you considered creating your own homemade captcha system rather than relying on a provider? 4get has such a solution that has been effective for them since it was implemented.
Yes. I have the option to develop some stuff but obviously this is a really asymmetrical fight. My time has value and his does not, and a lot of those solvers pay jeets to solve them, so I;'d have to sit down and really think of something both easy to develop, easy to understand for forum users, and hard for a jeet to get.

It's not as easy as just "make a lolcow captcha". We used to have one that asked you questions about CWC. It got to a point where people just could not figure it out.

Throwing an idea out there, but might it be worth it to have all new users go through a mini Turing-test, where they must have a private conversation with a current user / mod / admin, and state their intentions?

Edit: This might also serve as a good general filter / citizenship test for new users

yeah but I don't mind banning accounts for $20 a pop. That's a viable monetization strategy.

as far as day/night I'll do it for as long as I feel like. If I get tired I'll close it aagin.

i'd second doing a homemade captcha, something similar to what jschan/zzzchan has with the chess captcha makes spammers go fucking feral.

genAI makes this irrelevant, there'd be too much paranoia in deciding if a new user is or isn't AI

Join the forum through a probationary system.
Perhaps some sort of probationary system where new accounts cannot upload images or embed links? I don't know if that would be unreasonably difficult to implement, but in theory it would simply mean actual new users have to pass both a period of time and a number of posts that are purely text to be eligible for a manually approved full functionality status.

Since most posts on here are purely text anyway this kind of barrier would not be significantly inconvenient for the vast majority of genuine users, but it would be an immense hurdle for the faggot pedo spamtard.

On the rare occasion that a brand new account has something crucial to upload or link they can seek an exemption from staff who would be able to screen whatever they wanted to post.

I mean we're on computers, sky is the limit. the challenge is to make being a gay pedophile on my site as unrewarding or dangerous as possible. I'm going to basically be filing complaints directly with DFW until they do something or tell me to stop.

pull a cumtown.org and make the entire site closed off for guests.
EDIT: I wasn't being serious.

I forget which tracker it is, but there's a private music tracker out there where every new member has to go through an application process that includes testing the applicant's knowledge of audio file formats via a quiz, followed by an interview with a site admin via Discord.

Hopefully the Farms don't need to resort to such draconian measures to circle the wagons whilst (slowly) growing the user base, but I guess it's an option if things get especially grim.

the main issue with this is that we already kind of do this and it doesn't really stop the most persistent nuisance users. like dojima's dogma has been making accounts for 5 years now and everyone hates him and reports him as soon as he outs himself but he's still been doing it. sends me groveling emails every single day. completely unfased by being utterly unwanted. but he's not a gay pedophile. that i know of.

Based af. The only smart thing SomethingAwful ever did. FWIW, I support this wholeheartedly.

I don't suppose doxxing this faggot and reporting him to the authorities would do any good, would it? I know you mentioned he's already been reported to assorted places so it's probably a non-starter.

I fucking hate anarcho-tyranny, btw. It was always supposed to just be an idea, never something the world openly practiced. But here we are -- someone breaking so many fucking laws it's not even funny, and evidence being fed to people who could end it instantly, and they all just shrug and let it go. It'd be an easy victory too -- nobody (important) gets mad when a pedo goes down.
