It's not even that the crazy dogmatic types arnt really that close to their holy books because without the culture which wrote the book you don't really have much context on what you're reading, trying to be a 'true' member of a faith using only the holy book is like trying to be an Roman because you saw Augustus' bust. Which is why about half the christians I know get confused when I comment on perfect will.
I've never seen anyone here given any shit by mods or anyone else just for having a different opinion. We give posters shit for acting like spergs no matter what they believe but that just encourages people to conduct discussions in a mature fashion. I'm with you that while I'm a filthy liberal, I feel more at home here than I would in any self-righteous hugbox.
That's the unfortunate paradigm that results from treating a forum as a business. The tendency created by the almighty dollar is that too much quality control is not good for the bottom line.
You know, it's funny, the Farms is the only forum I've been a member of where I don't feel like people shit on me for having conservative views. Considering it's a forum dedicated to gossiping about aspies, I find that rather saddening.
I had an interesting discussion with someone a few weeks back, this person is familiar with the farms but has never been a member. He asked if I thought the farms had an overly conservative bent, because that was his impression. I responded based on some talk I had previously had with a few kiwis: the forums is not in fact overly conservative, there are plenty of lefties here too. Rather, you get the impression that it is very right-wing because there just aren't many places online where righties can talk freely without getting censored or banned, so 1) it looks a lot more conservative than many forums you'll see and 2) they take enthusiastic advantage of the fairness they're afforded here and express themselves a lot.
