It's more likely he was talking about Charles Schulz, with whom he had a (long-running?) feud.
I always thought he had something of a feud with Jim Davis, but maybe I am thinking of Berkeley Breathed and Bloom County. Watterson was not even beyond making fun of some of his own boomerism, with Calvin's father often sounding like the typical "IN MY TIMES THINGS WERE BETTER". It's also useful to know the context, he was working during the darkest ages of American 90ies comics so everything was incredibly edgy and incredibly childish. He had easy targets.
To think that there was an age when someone could make a career by being a political cartoonist. Someone still cares about newspaper comics? They're a dying media so I guess no one, and probably everything is completely poisoned. To think a complete fraud like Trudeau won fame and renown by being the most milquetoast and embarrassing baby boomer ever (I could write a dissertation on Doonesbury). Watterson was truly one of a kind.
