The human character potraits of this game fall into bland character design too. Hatoful is only known for having pidges and being played by dumb youtubers. It's a polished dating sim though, I'll give it that.

:powerlevel::autism: Dating Sims are one of my guilty pleasures. Let me explain to you why this one is barely worth an eyeroll.

• There should always be an uneven number of dating choices. It forces the player to have to take into account the relationships between them a little more seriously. Plus, more characters to enjoy.
• If you're going to make a customisable MC, use two variants rather than just one (race, as seen here). Even if they wanted to keep a fat MC, they could have another offer for the player such as hair colour or an accessory.
• Setting: While workplace romance can be played out well, you'll need a skilled writer to actually make it work. You need an even more skilled writer when it comes to dating sims where you need to plan everything out yourself. Also an ice cream shop? It's on the same level of pure uwu soft cute shit as Tumblr's overhyped and unoriginal coffeeshop AUs.
• While the only marketabe point being diversity is something that applies to every type of media, it's also valid here. Even if the player has a favourite, they'll enjoy actualy having a choice and putting characters into precise tropes (or in this case, race/gender boxes) will cut down the choices.
• The art is all too reminiscent of Steven Universe. If you're going to make money off something, don't copy an existing license's graphic style.

You know you nailed it. You nailed it so hard. They're gonna go for the hot white guy who's a douche and the moment they'll feel guilty for being straight and racist BAM he's trans so you don't have to fee guilty anymore bb uwu

Also characters like Jamie always feel weird to me. Not because of his one-dimensional personality trait but the fact that he seems to be a non-binary male.
Idk man 90% of 'NB people' tend to be girls trying to be special, especially in the demographic this dating sim is aiming for.

If I can end this on a positive note, Malik looks like a friendly character and I kinda like him- Then again, 'big friendly bear-like black guy' is a fun trope to see in media. Now to wonder if the author/artist recognises its a trope or will defend that this characterisation is 1000% original and new.
