UK British News Megathread - aka CWCissey's news thread

https://news.sky.com/story/row-over-new-greggs-vegan-sausage-rolls-heats-up-11597679 (https://archive.ph/5Ba6o)

A heated row has broken out over a move by Britain's largest bakery chain to launch a vegan sausage roll.

The pastry, which is filled with a meat substitute and encased in 96 pastry layers, is available in 950 Greggs stores across the country.

It was promised after 20,000 people signed a petition calling for the snack to be launched to accommodate plant-based diet eaters.

But the vegan sausage roll's launch has been greeted by a mixed reaction: Some consumers welcomed it, while others voiced their objections.

Cook and food poverty campaigner Jack Monroe declared she was "frantically googling to see what time my nearest opens tomorrow morning because I will be outside".

While TV writer Brydie Lee-Kennedy called herself "very pro the Greggs vegan sausage roll because anything that wrenches veganism back from the 'clean eating' wellness folk is a good thing".

One Twitter user wrote that finding vegan sausage rolls missing from a store in Corby had "ruined my morning".

Another said: "My son is allergic to dairy products which means I can't really go to Greggs when he's with me. Now I can. Thank you vegans."

TV presenter Piers Morgan led the charge of those outraged by the new roll.

"Nobody was waiting for a vegan bloody sausage, you PC-ravaged clowns," he wrote on Twitter.

Mr Morgan later complained at receiving "howling abuse from vegans", adding: "I get it, you're all hangry. I would be too if I only ate plants and gruel."

Another Twitter user said: "I really struggle to believe that 20,000 vegans are that desperate to eat in a Greggs."

"You don't paint a mustach (sic) on the Mona Lisa and you don't mess with the perfect sausage roll," one quipped.

Journalist Nooruddean Choudry suggested Greggs introduce a halal steak bake to "crank the fume levels right up to 11".

The bakery chain told concerned customers that "change is good" and that there would "always be a classic sausage roll".

It comes on the same day McDonald's launched its first vegetarian "Happy Meal", designed for children.

The new dish comes with a "veggie wrap", instead of the usual chicken or beef option.

It should be noted that Piers Morgan and Greggs share the same PR firm, so I'm thinking this is some serious faux outrage and South Park KKK gambiting here.

Never plead guilty. Make the fuckers work for it.
The only time you should ever plead guilty is if you've done worse than what you've been charged with and REALLY don't want discovery to REALLY fuck you.

Huw Edwards pleaded guilty when on paper it seemed like a strange thing to plead guilty for, when it was literally a friend who spammed weird pictures in a groupchat... until it emerged that he was actually communicating with the major nonce and there was a LOT more going than just victim of circumstance shit. By pleading guilty he got only slightly hammered by the court of public opinion rather than get absolutely bodied as a paedo.

I remember having a back and forward rant with a social worker around that time where she was all "It seems like he was stitched up" and I was having none of it. I was right.

It’s really starting to irritate me that I’m forced to listen to brown men yell their ugly guttural language into their phones constantly in public. I got to bear witness to a guy in Halfords try and return a car vacuum while in a phone call with two other brown men at the same time - his wife helping him hotswap between two phones to do it, occasionally stopping and speaking in English just to issue commands to the guy at the desk. Phone networks must love these people

Here's the electronic version....
I notice zero people-of-colour in that video and it doesn't bother me.
Righting a sinking ship would be good for everybody.
The Russians actually have an inordinate obsession with Great Britain
They stole "Crimea", which is rightfully Anglo-Saxon clay.

Depressingly, maybe this was the first example of English fleeing Britain when foreigners got too demanding.

One of the more embarrassing stories for the BBC to be included in (link / archive)

When Farage used to appear on the BBC, makeup artists were using tools contaminated with "bodily fluids" on his face. Was it shit, piss, saliva or something else?

President Trump did a massive policy rant on Xitter/Poof Social last night and their official policy is mass deportations now. (link / archive)

I will permanently pause migration from all Third World Countries to allow the U.S. system to fully recover, terminate all of the millions of Biden illegal admissions, including those signed by Sleepy Joe Biden’s Autopen, and remove anyone who is not a net asset to the United States, or is incapable of loving our Country, end all Federal benefits and subsidies to noncitizens of our Country, denaturalize migrants who undermine domestic tranquility, and deport any Foreign National who is a public charge, security risk, or non-compatible with Western Civilization. These goals will be pursued with the aim of achieving a major reduction in illegal and disruptive populations, including those admitted through an unauthorized and illegal Autopen approval process. Only REVERSE MIGRATION can fully cure this situation. Other than that, HAPPY THANKSGIVING TO ALL, except those that hate, steal, murder, and destroy everything that America stands for — You won’t be here for long!

Will we at least make some concessions on this, or will it be the usual: "We respect President Trump's decision but that decision is for the United States alone." respectful decline response?

As America actually acts and responds to mass migration (which Trump also oversaw from 2016 - 2020, btw), we're sat here discussing whether the new budget means that we'll also pay tax if we drive our cars in a different country.

EDIT: Cheeky nerd update as it's the first poll post-budget

Labour down to six seats.

REF: 367 (+362) (31%)
GRN: 83 (+79) (17%)
LDM: 78 (+6) (12%)
SNP: 45 (+37)
CON: 37 (-84) (18%)
OTH: 26 (+2)
PC: 7 seats (+3)
LAB: 6 (-405) (15%)

I imagine it'll be a Green/Lib Dem coalition versus a Reform/Tory coalition. Badenoch and Jenrick will both lose their seats on these numbers.

I'd imagine in a situation where Reform would need a coalition in order to beat another coalition they'd just not bother, no point in retarding yourself when giving Greens/Lib Dems enough rope to hang themselves with would be funnier. They'd last 7 weeks if that.
Literally all you'd need to do is ask them about their policies on trannies and the Greens and LDs would eat each other up for weeks of the campaign.

I've said from the beginning, the best possible outcome would be a Tory/Labour/Green coalition. It shows how desperate they'd be to prevent from gaining power, it'd piss off literally 100% of the electorate and there'd be no mandate to do anything.

Either Reform win by a majority or they sit it out, there's no way they can impliment any of their policies that make them Reform without a majority.

Was at a friend’s house a couple of nights ago. I never watch tv. Their tv was on in the background.

Every single advert with people in has some form of black or brown person in it (almost no East Asians, curious). Why? As a country, we don’t have a 50/50 mix of white and brown. We don’t even have a 70/30 mix. So why are they always, always in ads?

It jars in the same way that only showing young, skinny and perfect people does. It’s not representative. It comes across as lecturing - ‘here’s what you should be like as people’. It’s fake.

These aren’t refugees and they’re not integrating. And there’s far, far too many immigrants. The health and housing services are at the point of collapse and all our governments (Labour, Tory, whatever) see fit to do is force acceptance of it down our throats or else. What are we gaining from this? Nothing. It’s damaging us.

No, fuck off. Enough is enough. Sick of having this shit forced down my throat.

In a case of Reform winning with a very small majority, would such a case happen where queer starmer creates a coalition with the Lib Dems or Greens? Or is that not allowed? I was thinking back to when the Tories and Lib-Dems joined one.
Lib lab, possibly featuring the Greens would almost certainly happen if Reform won by a very slim margin. At that point Reform would likely form a coalition with the Tories and truly become the Teal Torie party and it would be another 5 years of nothing (ever) happening. It is something they are 100% allowed to do so Labour would very likely do this just so they can block Reform at every turn, make them look like a lame party and then pray they can win next time.

There's a very good reason almost all the worst points of the budget don't kick in until 2028...

This is fucking rancid. Worst is the freaks that did it will probably just get a slap on the wrist at most, when they should get jail time for something like this. Or better yet, a noose.

The RadFems are starting to make their voices known about the immigrant threat, it seems. Women's Safety Initiative popped up around april on the twatters, where it has been pushing the "immigration is a threat to women and girls" narrative pretty hard. Maybe we'll get JK retweeting total paki death soon?

For now, it's all just promises to do things, until the finance bill has made its way through the commons. Anything could happen in the next two weeks. Nothing will, but anything could.

It'll be overrun by middle-class white women who live in Wimbledon, in white majority areas where their only real encounters with "immigrants" are their children's tutors, "they're not all bad, you're just a scummy bigot".

Tories are the ones that need to sit this out tbh.

Not to be too cocky or arrogant, but I would imagine that Reform UK would win with a comfortable majority. I would say anywhere between 393 and 453, going on current projections.

That's not to say that it will be easy/a cakewalk, but Labour's implosion and the immolation of the Tories will make it impossible for them to compete.

You may also have other new Lefty parties entering the fray focusing on single issues like a MeToo type party or BLM UK, perhaps even the LGBTQ's (or LGB alone) will form a political party as well.

The Corbyn party, whilst not totally dead in the water (yet), will have to revive itself if they want to at least be taken seriously, and there's also the Muslim parties as well.

The more the Left fractures and splinters, the more so the Right needs to unite. The good thing (in one way) is that Britain First, UKIP, Abolish The Welsh Assembly, BNP, National Front, Heritage and Reclaim etc. cannot compete for voters on the Right the way that Reform UK can - however, going forward, we need a broader church within Reform UK and even if it means Laurence, Tommy etc. becoming part of it down the line then maybe that's beneficial.

As for the opposition, I suspect that the Lib Dems are currently stronger than the Greens and should a GE happen soon it'll be Davey as LOTO unless they agree to pact with the Greens, Plaid and SNP before any GE which would actually be advantageous:

The Greens and Lib Dems will not win one single Welsh seat at a GE (the only place the Lib Dems are poised to do well in the Senedd Elections in 2026 is the two Cardiff seats which they could win, whilst the Greens are only showing signs of progress in Newport and the Gower) therefore them standing aside to let Plaid Cymru challenge Reform UK directly may be an option. The same with the SNP in Scotland - don't challenge the 59 seats north of the border, but this may mean Reform UK could sneak to victory in some seats there where disaffected Scots who don't like any of the options choose to stay at home or vote for a local Independent candidate.

Reform UK have managed to navigate the choppy waters and we know the hatred will only intensify from here on in - we're not where we should be, according to 'the eggsperts' and we are performing well and staying abreast of the opposition who are only helping Reform UK to stay on top by sabotaging themselves.

As we prepare to leave 2025, we're now entering into new uncharted territory where the sitting Government, despite winning a whopping majority less than two years ago, is now weak, impotent and collapsing from within. The Budget has pissed everybody off, there's a fight for the leadership of the party, there's more internal leaks in the party than a bodge job bathroom and the leaders of Labour look like they require the sort of therapy Dr. Gleadle of Peter Cook fame once undertook.

Will something happen, will nothing happen... stay tuned to find out.
